I believe so.Looking at it from a infautuation angle I think that he was just was in love with the egg inside of Bella but thought it was Bella who he loved?
We also don't know how strong imprinting really is so. I'm thinking in eclipse when bella had a vision could it have been Renesmee doing that she does have the power to show or picture what she thinks and wants.I wonder if the Renesmee was actually Jacob's Bella?
But this is my belief or opinion so ill respect what you say but probably will not agree with it.
I believe Jacob loved Bella but/and the attraction went deeper than Bella. The Quileute Tribe had/have a fierce survival instinct and that anyone Jacob would or could be attracted to would have to further that. My sense is that imprinting (in the Twilight world) is the expression of that survival instinct (as Stephenie alluded to through Jacob's word). I believe that Bella's dreams were always potent and most often true and/or prophetic, except for a couple that expressed the fears she refused to consider in her waking hours. It seems to me that Bella had her own gift. Renesmee's gifts appear to me to be more potent, as often is true of the next generation. And Renesmee's gifts, I think, were also heightened by those of her father, the mind reader, Edward.
I dont't know about the love part between jacob and bella but the other things you said are very interesting.
As much as I believe that Bella believed that she loved Jacob and as much as I know Jacob thought he loved Bella... It was really all about Renesmee. She explains everything.
She explains why if Jacob and Bella were "soul mates" then why Jacob didn't imprint on Bella. They weren't really soulmates. However... The characters didn't know that. Jacob didn't know or understand why he felt so darn protective of Bella. He NEEDED her, literally, because without her there was no Nessie. So when Bella talks about ending her life (becoming a vampire) everything in Jacob wants to make that NOT happen. Not JUST because he "loves" Bella, but because he needs her. Again, the character Jacob doesn't understand that, he already had a human crush on Bella and really really liked her before he ever became a wolf, so I think he confused this "passion" that he had for Bella for love. I can't really blame him because what else would you have called it at the time? The character believed it to be love because that is the only word to call it and be able to wrap his mind around what he felt for Bella.
The same is true for Bella. She said that she was in love with Jacob and called him her soulmate because she didn't have the words or understanding to know the real reason she was so drawn to him. There was something inside of Bella that needed Jacob to not give up and to fight for her. Something inside of Bella needed Jacob, and that something was Nessie. Again, Bella did not know that. This confusion or lack of terminology... does that make it not love? I don't know. Possibly. But for the character the feelimgs were real and valid.
I believe that the entire love triangle was a build up to Nessie. I know that is kind of gross for Jacob to be in love with Bella and Bella with him and then for him to end up with her daughter. YUCK!! Despite it being gross, I still think that was the point. So was it bad writing to put Jacob and Bella together romantically? I don't know. I don't think it was completely pointless and I hope that looking at it through their Nessie connection you can maybe see how the characters thought they were in love with the other.
Yeah I see you point here.
i have always wondered about that.. i think that jacob has always liked bella but not in the way he thought he actually did he probably only liked her as a friend nd the love that he thought he had for bella was actually meant for renesmee but jacob didnt know about her at the time so thats why he never imprinted on bella because she wasnt 'the one' he'd always been waiting for it was renesmee all along.. but that's just my opinion
Wow im glad you came and gave I enjoy seeing other peoples conclusions of this matter.
I believe that everything about Jacob and Bella's relationship (friendship, love, need, protection, trust, HUMANITY, SURVIVAL) was a build up to Nessie. Jacob and Bella were always meant to be good friends, BFFs you name it- and we see that perfectly clear in New Moon. But when friendhip is all you have, when you can't go another day without his presence or his smile, when her pleading eyes beg you to be there for her, to help her survive no matter what, when your friend is your savior and when every survival instinct tells you to protect her - it's easy to confuse friendship with love. Jacob saved Bella plenty of times and Bella saved him too: when she didn't let him kill himself, in Eclipse, and she basically realised that she needed him alive. When your savior is also like walking-sex, wild abs, buff and tall and happy to see you all the time AND the sun rises when he smiles- well then it's easy to confuse this attraction with love, too. Poor Jacob had to use any weapon in his teenager or wolf arsenal to help her stay human! can't blame him, the man is meant to father children what can I say!.........The named HUMANITY that he fought for -teeth and claws, pun intended- was the trade coin (if I can use that figure) for Renesmee to exist, to breath and live - TO BE.
So I correct you and say: YES, THEY were drawn to each other for this reason, in order for Renesmee to exist. I say THEY because in BD it's crystal clear that Bella needs Jacob again to survive, she's happier when he's around, calmer and everything that we already knew, but more intense this time. She even admits that she's complete when Jake's there ( “It feels…complete when you’re here, Jacob. Like all my family is together. Imean, I guess that’s what it’s like—I’ve never had a big family before now. It’s nice.” She smiled for half a second. “But it’s just not whole unless you’re here.”)
So what else do we all want, except for a Nessie/Jacob SPIN-OFF?!!!? I know, I dream too much...can't blame one for hoping....did you guys hear anything at all about that??? A DISCUSSION must be made. let's hear the fans!!!!!!
Thats exactly what Im thinking ^.
WOW Deea, I LOVE your take on this and I so validate your point. I think that somehow, had Edward not come back, Bella and Jacob would have had a life toghether, also becasue Rensemee would NEVER have been, so Jacob would not have imprinted. But as Bella said. "Don't make me choose, becasue it is HIM, it has ALWAYS been him". One must say tho, and I want to make it CLEAR that I am a VAMPIRE GIRL all the the way, JACOB was the one that was there for Bella ALL THE TIME!! he faught for her, fought with her, and even when he said he would not watch her die, He did, he stays. So in essence, Jacob, was the one that really had more gumption in the triangle, EDWARD adored BELLA, but he was not prpared to fight for her, instead he left it up to Bella. Was it becasue he was so sure of her unrelentless undying, all encompasing LOVE for him, or did he just not have the.............???? can't get the word, but you know what I mean. If the roles were reversed would EDWARD have stayed through all that Jacob did, and could an unfertilised "Speck" in Bella's uterus have been enough of a pull for him??????? Not too sure about that one. Again, EDWARD is my all, this is Just my opinion of the whole triangle situation, and a question I have.
Interesting insight into the perseverance of both Jacob and Edward and who stood by Bella the most. It is nice that you are able to fully support Edward and yet still acknowledge his short comings as well as acknowledge Jacob's endurance.
I love your answer, Cinzia. I believe that our life force/ survival instincts, the genes in all of us lead the way and are sometimes but not always followed by our personalities/minds. We can influence that with our repeated choices (personality/mind), but the survival instinct is what pulls us along. We cannot avoid that.
I also believe that Bella's choices were both genetically and personality driven and they contributed greatly to who Renesmee became. Bella desperately wanted to be more than she was. She found herself to be much less than she wanted to be as a human. She was moving along in her life, putting one foot in front of the other until she found Edward. Once she'd fully witnessed the Cullen way of life and had a taste as well of a typical vampire's existence as well she knew she wanted what the Cullens had for herself.
That being said we need to remember that Edward was concerned that his way of life, because of Jasper's then lack of total committment to vegetarian living, could kill Bella. (Remember that he had tried once before near the end of Twilight to leave Bella because of the life-threatening dangers his world posed for her? Let's not forget Edward's whole family chasing and killing James, the very predatory vampire from Twilight!! ) When he left Bella in New Moon it was an extremely difficult move for Edward, a real battle within himself. He knew that if he left it up to Bella she wouldn't let him go. Edward also had to fight to get Bella to marry him. Can you imagine how hard Edward had to fight himself and then for Bella in Eclipse not to send Jacob hurtling out of the tent on the that mountain top? I probably can add to these examples but not right now due to my schedule.
The Jacob and Edward ways of fighting were different but they both fought very hard for her in their own ways.
