Fifty Shades Books

Ok, so I have heard a lot about the Fifty Shades books being very sexual and such but I have yet to hear what exactly they are about of if they are good or not. I have not read them and I would like to ask those of you who have, what you think of them. Possibly, give a review of them? Or, even if you only read the first of the three of them, speak on that one. I thought about reading it but, I don't want to spead the money on the book if there is to big of a chance that I won't like it.

 

So, you can treat this as a Fifty Shades forum discussion if you would like. Just please, tell what you think and how you feel about them. Thank you :)

Thank you. I heard that people have found that it seems to relate to Twilight and the Saga. Is that true? Have you found that during you're time reading it?

it is a little Twilightish. When you start to get into the first book, you can see the similar areas. To me it reminded me of Twilight, but the rated R version of it. It is a great read! I dont think my mouth has ever dropped open so much in my life till reading that book.

Also I know its great, bc the bf never EVER reads and they fact that he read this means ALOT!

It seems to relate to Twilight because it started on Fanfiction.net as a TwiFic called 'Master of the Universe'. Even better is that not only is James ripping off Meyers' story, she also rips off about 3 other well-known TwiFics including The Dominant by Tara Me Sue. The cherry on top is the fact that James petitioned to have a 50 Shades fanfic removed from FF.net because it "plagiarized" her stories too much.

Beyond all of that, I'm personally disgusted by how popular these books are. They disgrace the BDSM community, condone abusive relationships even worse than Twilight does, there's even talk that they promote eating disorders (Anastasia's nickname is Ana, which is also a pet name for Anorexia among ED communities, and there are almost more scenes in the books that talk about how skinny Ana is and how much she doesn't eat than there are sex scenes). Not to mention Ana is an absolutely horrible friend and there's essentially no basis for Ana and Christian to love each other outside of James telling you that they do.

To start off, thank you so much for the invaluable information which led to the most tantalizing read. That writer had a very creative mind, took the time and trouble to do serious researches, and gave us an intriguing package of stories. One thing is certain: Ms. James should have expressed humble gratitude for such enriching inspiration, at the very least sent that writer a huge wicker basket of the most delicate white roses and a good bottle of Cristal.

Secondly, in order to get the most satisfactory enjoyment out of the read and an unbiased glimpse at the dynamics between a couple in the realm of BDSM, it would be best for us readers to do every individual chapter of the three-part story in a zigzag order: The Submissive, The Dominant, The Submissive Chapter 37 Outtake, and The Training. It would work even better if we could read The Submissive and The Dominant side-by-side—getting both sides of one story, comparing notes from opposite perspectives, so to speak.

Thirdly, it would be more… prudent IMHO for us to go through the entire content of a particular text ourselves beforehand should we ever feel the urge to offer comments or make assumptions about something outside of our comfort zones.

By the way, the name of the author in question would be “tara sue me,” not “tara me sue.”

The reviews on Amazon have been well-balanced and positive from my point of view. My Edward had it downloaded to my Kindle the other day. The Dominant and The Training will come out in early October. Tara Sue Me did some polishing and trimming, making the storyline even better than the FF version. ;)

It has been a load of fun reading the reviews (negative ones included) for The Submissive and exciting posting one myself on Amazon. The Dominant is coming out in June. That is one enticing read which IMHO stands on its own.

My Kindle version of the Fifty Shades of Grey series is littered with countless footnotes and personal comments all over the "pages." And it is not going anywhere anytime soon. ;)

Agree entirely with your comment about the discgrace to the BDSM community. Christian denying her aftercare (just leaving after Ana has an extremely traumatic experience, after which it is expected within the BDSM community for the dom to give care such as relaxing, sometimes food or cuddling and kissing). It also paints, via Christian's damaged past, that all BDSM people are tortured and warped. Such is hardly the case at all. And Ana trying to "Fix" Him further adds to this built-in prejudice all in the name of seeming edgy. It's highly dangerous and paints a group of perfectly normal people in a very bad light.

id agree with tpattzy shane on this, the first is sex ,sex and more sex! i wasnt sure if to read the second book, but i hated knowing it was a series and not finishing it. so i read all 3 and for me the second book is where the story properly starts although you couldnt just start with the second one if that makes sence?

However i hated christian grey in the first book but grew to love him by the 3rd!! if you read them i think you would understand why?!?!?

so ill 2nd that according to me to, just go ahead and read it lol
