For me it was. I walked away from Twilight and never thought about it again. I had no desire to read any of the books.

New Moon Movie critics
Critical response
New Moon received mostly negative reviews from critics. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 28% of 216 critics have given the film a positive review, with a rating average of 4.6 out of 10. The site's general consensus is that "The Twilight Saga's second installment may satisfy hardcore fans of the series, but outsiders are likely to be turned off by its slow pace, relentlessly downcast tone, and excessive length."[97] On Metacritic, which assigns a weighted mean rating out of 100 reviews from film critics, the film has a rating score of 44 based on 32 reviews.[17]
Robert Ignizio of the Cleveland Scene described the film as an "entertaining fantasy", and noted that it "has a stronger visual look [than Twilight] and does a better job with its action scenes while still keeping the focus on the central love triangle."[98] Michael O'Sullivan of The Washington Post gave the film two and half stars out of four, praised Stewart's performance in the film and wrote, "Despite melodrama that, at times, is enough to induce diabetes, there's enough wolf whistle in this sexy, scary romp to please anyone."[99] The Seattle Post-Intelligencer gave the film a "B" grading and said, "the movie looks tremendous, the dialogue works, there are numerous well placed jokes, the acting is on point."[100]
Time Out New York gave the film 3 stars out of 5, calling it "acceptable escapism for those old enough to see it yet still young enough to shriek at undead dreamboats."[101]Jordan Mintzer from Variety stated, "Stewart is the heart and soul of the film", and added that she "gives both weight and depth to dialogue...that would sound like typical chick-lit blather in the mouth of a less engaging actress, and she makes Bella's psychological wounds seem like the real deal."[102]
Mick Lasalle from the San Francisco Chronicle responded with a more mixed review, stating, "[E]xpect this film to satisfy its fans. Everybody else, get ready for a bizarre soap opera/pageant, consisting of a succession of static scenes with characters loping into the frame to announce exactly what they're thinking."[103] Digital Spy gave the film 2 stars out of 5, praising Kristen Stewart for "carrying the film on her shoulders and, once again, bringing plenty of soul to a character who might otherwise come across as self-indulgent", but was critical of its lack of action, ultimately calling it "a draining experience".[104] Roger Ebert gave the film 1 star out of 4 and said that it "takes the tepid achievement of Twilight, guts it, and leaves it for undead."[105] Richard Roeper graded New Moon with a C- and called it a "plodding, achingly slow, 130-minute chapter in the saga".[106]

Phhhh. I consider myself hardcore Twilight fan, and I hate New Moon movie. It is very poor adaptation which is far from books mood. It is the darkest time in Bellas time, but do you see what nonreaders-fans are saying? "I loved to see Bella happy."

When I first saw NM movie, I didn't like it at all. I still had not read any of the books and only saw NM because I had a rare movie date with my husband and it was the only thing showing of any interest. So I walked into the theater not knowing anything about what would happen in the movie. I didn't like Edward suddenly and randomly leaving. I thought Jacob and Bella were cute together. (At that time I didn't even know that there were "teams" or anything like that) And I didn't like Bella suddenly going to Edward's rescue, but found the Volturi interesting, and I didn't like how suddenly Bella was back with Edward.
I talked to my friends who had read the books and they all liked the movie, so I decided to read the book (NM, then Eclipse, BD, and then Twilight) and later saw the movie again and then I liked it. I feel like NM movie is more accurate than Twilight and Eclipse. I don't feel like BD is a fair comparison due to being two movies they had more time to tell the complete story.

Once more. HOW movie can be accurate if it shows mood, events, feelings, characters opposite to book??
By the way. It confirms that Team Jacob increased after uncorrect Weitzs movie.

In my opinion I did not find the NM movie to portray the characters opposite of the book, but rather very accurate to the book.
And for myself Jacob is my favorite character FROM THE BOOKS. Taylor Lautner is not my reason for liking Jacob.

Very accurate?? Book was 50/50 Edward and Jacob. Movie was all about Jacob. Those who did not read the book did not get how really close are B&E. My neighbour girl said: "He even did not want to kiss her!" - see, moviemakers forget explain how difficult is for him to hold his vampirish side calm down. Even scene where Bella bleedes did not let us know how hard it is for them to resist from blood. Moviemakers cut out Edwards gift - really sweet, very special, self-created - it was CD: lullaby for Bella. You know what Team Jacob says after movie? - "Edward can give her only money, he is so boring!" And moviemakers cut out scene with bikes returning. That one in NM which very clearly shows Jacobs selfishness and non-thinking about others ( in that case Charlies) feelings.
Weitz promised to be trustful to book. He lied. He made only middle part but shortened/cut the last one which was more important and essential for story.
If those are not important changes ---
I understand, they tried to build Jacobs fanbase. To create triangle where each rival would have be worth to choose. But in fact they broke Twilights bone. They made Bella look stupid and selfish girl who did not know what she wants, and Edward being like p****.

pages 1-84 include Edward and page 424 Bella leaves with Alice and 547 is the end of the book not including the Epilogue which is basically both Edward and Jacob.
Edward's total pages = 207
Jacob's total pages = 340
That is not 50/50 and therefore for NM to not show Edward very much is accurate. And I agree that Edward comes off as a jerk in NM and I think that is sad, but I also think Edward is a jerk in NM so I find that to be accurate. It is a shame that they cute out Edward's gift because that was very sweet of him and he gave her something that Bella really wanted. But that is a pretty small detail to call a whole movie not accurate because of that is extreme.
I agree with you that they messed up the ending of it badly. By not having it show Jacob betraying Bella with the motorcycles and by moving the marriage proposal from Edward to the end. I am not really sure why that decision was made, but I didn't like that either.

They did not do that. Stephenie Meyers did that herself all throughout the book of Eclipse.

But you are a proof by yourself - as you said, you saw NM movie before Twilight. It is very evident that you did not get that magic which surrounds Edward&Bella. The first two books are full of this magical feeling, and the first movie (although unintentionally funny now and then) gives it to us. NM movie completely lost it. No wonder Jacob is your favorite character after seeing movie - Edward is shown as jerk which he is not. Yes, he made a grave mistake but movie did not show the reason why he did what he did and the price what he paid. They both felt into depression but Bella at least found solace in newbuilt friendship with Jacob, Edward alienated from everyone.

I should disagree with you about Edwards and Jacobs parts in book.
Bella first visits Jacob on page 130 and leaves him on 423. It makes 293 pages not 340 but yet you should remember that even during Edwards physical absence, he still is in Bellas heart and mind. She thinks about him, imagines his voice etc. , and there are plenty of pages between 130 and 423 where Bella thinks about Edward not Jacob. You can not forget about Edward while you are reading the books middle part! But poor Jacob after 423 completely disappears... till the epiloque.
And now compare with movie. Edward got, what - 20 minutes or so? Huge mistake.

Cutting out Edwards gift is not so unimportant thing. Moviemakers basically underplayed B&E relationship. Especially by adding Jacobs gift which was supposed to show "the special bond between them" (although at that time they barely see each other). I already pointed what impression nonreaders got - that Edward is uninteresting and money is his only advantage. Very wrong.
As for Eclipse. That book is very contradictional but one thing is certain: Bella knows what she wants and sticks with it. The conflict is not about triangle but about devotion of human life.
