The Twilight Saga

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Everything about Love.

From the deep and insightful ---- What is love?  How does it vary between friendship, family, and romantic interests?

To simply take a breather and enjoy and share your favorite quote about love.  The quote can be from a song, movie, book.

Note of Caution:  Anytime a person is talking about how THEY view love it is very personal.  Love and hate are two of the most powerful and personal emotions that a human can experience.  So if a person expresses a standard or view of what they believe to be love, please choose your response wisely especially if you happen to have a different view.

Favorite Quote -- Movie: Princess Bride

Westley: Hear this now: I will always come for you.
Buttercup: But how can you be sure?
Westley: This is true love - you think this happens every day?
Westley: I told you I would always come for you. Why didn't you wait for me?
Buttercup: Well... you were dead.
Westley: Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while.
Buttercup: I will never doubt again.
Westley: There will never be a need.
*****
Buttercup: You can't hurt me. Westley and I are joined by the bonds of love. And you cannot track that, not with a thousand bloodhounds, and you cannot break it, not with a thousand swords.
*****
Prince Humperdinck: You truly love each other (Buttercup and Wesley) and so you might have been truly happy. Not one couple in a century has that chance, no matter what the story books say. And so I think no man in a century will suffer as greatly as you will.
*****
Miracle Max: Sonny, true love is the greatest thing, in the world-except for a nice MLT - mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe
[smacks his lips
Miracle Max: they're so perky, I love that.
*****
The Impressive Clergyman: Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam...
[cut to Westley, Inigo, and Fezzik
The Impressive Clergyman: And wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva...   (and true love will follow you forever)
[cut to the trio again
The Impressive Clergyman: So tweasure your wuv.   (so treasure your love)

Love Song --  StoryBook Love Willy DeVille

Do you think that "storybook love" should be a separate type of love, similar to family, friends, and romantic love?  That the "storybook love" would most likely be found in the pages of a story but not found in real life.

1 Corinthians 13 (The Message)

If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.

If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.

3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

My understanding of love comes from scripture based on 1 Cor. and Eph 5

Instructions for Christian Households

21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[c] 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

1Cor shows what love is and can be applied to friends, family members, and romantic interest.

Gal 5 shows romantic love and how a husband and wife should love one another.

I do not believe that Agape love is possible without God's help (out side of a parent/child relationship).  So while I think Agape love is the "gold standard" for love, I think there are lot of other levels of "in love" or what I consider to be "romantic love".

Backing up a little to cover semantics.  For me "in" love, is exclusively talking about "romantic" love.  I know that we love our friends and our family, but we are not "IN" love with them.

The difficulty that I have with romantic love is that I don't think it can really be defined because each person has a different meaning for them on what it means.

I do not believe in "love at first sight" yet at the same time, I know a couples who swears the fell in love instantly and they were married less than a month after meeting one another.  So does this couple disprove my belief in "love at first sight", pretty much yes.  However I still believe that this couple is unique and not the norm.  And I also think that if someone is waiting for that "instant spark" of "love at first sight" in order to find "the one" then I think this person might be in danger of missing out on a really great "someone" in their search of "the one".

Backing up again, "the one".  While I believe that there might be "the one" for some people, I do not believe that everyone finds them.  And I do not think there is anything wrong with that.  Again, I think there are some really great "someones" who get passed up because the person might be searching for "the one".  All is well if this someone finds their "one", but what if they don't?  I also think that they might be surprised to find the person they thought was a "someone" turned out to really be "the one". :D

Love can also be an emotion and have strong feelings associated with it, but I also believe that romantic love is a choice.  A marriage that is struggling might stay married because they are making the choice to love that other person and not because of the "feeling" of love. When your choice and your feelings are aligned, then GREAT!! That is so awesome!!  But if those feelings aren't there, then sometimes love remains because you make the choice to love that person. (unconditional love).

I also understand that there are people who define "in love" very differently than I do.  I think that a man in a plural marriage (has more than one wife) can love and be "in love" with both wives.  That type of relationship is not for me, but I still believe it can exist.  Someone who was in love that their love leaves (either through death or just no longer has contact with them for some reason) I believe that they can remain "in love" with this person their whole life and yet still be able to love romantically another person.  So with that said, I do believe that a person can be "in love" with multiple people at the same time.

I believe that people can fall in love with someone on accident.  A negative example could be in an affair.  Most people who stray do not walk out the door that day and decide they are going to be unfaithful, but another relationship develops slowly and often accidentally.  A positive example of this can be best friends who fall in love with each other.  It can be hard to pinpoint "when" they fell in love because it "just happened" naturally and slowly. (I think that is what Meyers attempted to write for Jacob and Bella)

RANDOM QUESTION:

Do you have a favorite love story?  What is the couple from (book or movie)?  Why is it your favorite?

Actually, my favorite love story is The Princess Bride, funny as it is. It shows love as enduring, permanent and the motivation for all things that are living. Inigo's love for his father, Buttercup's for Westley, Westley's for Buttercup, The Prince for himself... Love is the reason any live. And "To blave" is the thing most worth living for, after all.

Thank you

By far Princess Bride is one of my very favorite movies of all time.  Of course there is a love story and it represents the magic of "true love" and how it conquers all.  "Death cannot stop true love, it only delays it awhile." :D

Kate and Leopold or Romeo and Juliet are my favorite Love stories :) For me it shows true love and someone willing to do something for the one their love, even if it means losing their loved one's around them. For Kate it was her family to be with Leopold in his time and for Romeo and Juliet, it was their own families, so they could be together in their life and the after life

Are there any song lyrics that you agree with or some that you really disagree with?

1) Love is a many splendored thing, Love lifts us up where we belong, All you need is love!

2) Love is just a game.

3) I was made for loving you baby, You were made for loving me

4) Love makes us act like we are fools.  Throw our lives away, for one happy day.

5) I will always love you.

RANDOM QUESTION:

If you have a love story with your significant other, what is it?  How long have you been together?
