Chapter 6: Love hits

 

Jacob’s POV:

 

I got into my car again and headed to La push. As soon as I parked my car in front of Leah’s gateway, I saw her come out. Her mom came out too and waved at us. Sue looked happy probably because her daughter was happy, I think and Leah, she looked totally embarrassed. I smiled at Sue and waved to her. She waved back and headed inside.

 

I looked carefully at Leah as she walked; she was wearing stunning black jeans and loose lavender top. She had left her hair open and as usual she looked beautiful. I quickly snapped out of my fantasies as I heard Leah mutter a “hi.” I nodded unable to say anything else.

 

She sat down in the passenger seat and then I drove my car in Port Angeles’s direction.

 

We were both silent for a while. I was listening to rap and then she switched it off. I didn’t say anything but I gave her a glance, she looked sad, something had happened for sure.

 

“How was school?” I asked trying to break our silence.

 

“Bad.” She muttered a little bit sadly.

 

“Hmm…I see.” I said not knowing what else to say.

 

“So where are we going?” she asked.

 

“To the mall and then to dinner, I m going to treat you,” I smiled.

 

“Cool.” She agreed.

 

“So what do you want to give?” she asked.

 

“To whom?” I asked frowning.

 

“To Bella of course, you remember right her birthday is very near.” She said sarcastically.

 

“Hmm…I dunno I will probably give a couple of things.” I said thinking hard and trying to concentrate! She smelled beautiful; I wanted to lean in and…Jacob!

 

“Good.” She said vaguely.

 

Finally we reached Port Angeles and I parked the car down the bay. The place was beautiful of course but I didn’t want to waste time until I got Bella something.

 

Both of us got to the mall. It was a nice small place of three floors. We went to the women’s section. The girls over there kept glancing at me. I had sort of grown beautiful and I had a little bit of muscles so I wasn’t surprised.

 

“So let’s buy a t-shirt first.” I said and went over to the side which held a lot of t-shirts.

There were a lot of clingy clothes but I was sure Bella wouldn’t like these, so I went over to the normal ones, I soon picked out the best according to me and held it for Leah to choose.

 

I had picked out a nice blue with white print, a pale shaded kinda green with dark green with print, then a black shirt. Leah chose the black shirt and the blue one so I put them in the bag.

 

Then we went to get some jeans, I decided to give her birthday clothes with some accessories.

 

After some fifteen twenty minutes we chose Bella a nice jeans. It was dark in color.

 

Then as we were getting her a charm bracelet, something caught my eyes, it was a nice off-white shirt, and it would look so beautiful if Leah wore.

 

“One sec.” I said and headed toward the shirt I liked for her.

 

I would gift this to her of course. Thank god I could afford it!

 

I got the shirt out, it looked even prettier, and it kinda was made for her. I imagined her wearing it. I put it in the bag, I would ask her later.

 

She had already chosen the bracelet for Bella.

 

“Where were you?” she said sounding cross.

 

“I was getting you a gift.” I said and winked at her. Her mouth fell open.

 

“You were getting whom a gift?” she said in surprise.

 

“You of course,” I got the shirt from the bag and showed it to her.

 

“I can’t take it.” She whispered.

 

“Why not?” I asked coming closer.

 

“I can’t.” She said in the same tone.

 

“Who said friends can’t gift each other things?” I questioned dramatically.

 

“But-” I stared at her meaningfully, “fine!” She exclaimed. I could see something in her eyes, something which I wasn’t sure of.

 

I looked at the time, oh my god it was 7:45 pm, we had been here for almost forever. And I still needed to go to the book cum music store.

 

We got the billing done and packed Bella’s things differently.

 

We went to the book store in the first floor. Bella read mostly classics so I decided to give her only those.

 

I picked up Shakespeare’s Hamlet after a while and some other love story I knew she didn’t have. She would love it.

 

We got this billed too and headed out. I was getting excited; Leah and I would be having dinner together and alone. I knew it wasn’t a date but still. We put the shopping bags in the car.

 

“Aren’t we going in the car?” Leah asked as I locked the car.

 

“Nope, it’s only a few blocks away let’s enjoy the scenery.” I shrugged.

 

“Okay.” She grinned.

 

It was beautiful the moon penetrated toward us through the clouds and it was a very beautiful night, the breeze went past us and I saw Leah shiver, I gave her my Jacket. She seemed to have forgotten hers in the car.

 

“No that’s fine,” She said as I gave it to her, I didn’t say anything but just held it to her. She took it anyways and I wasn’t feeling cold.

 

We soon reached the hotel, it was much warmer in there, it was a cozy restaurant, there was a fireplace, with stone wall around it and the rest of the place was made of wood. I didn’t want to make it feel like a date so I was desperately hoping the waiter would direct us to a table of three or four instead of two. We did look like a pair and a good one I had to admit; I smiled to myself at that thought. He directed us to a table of two, and it was cozy one in the corner, I could see Leah blushing.

 

We talked mostly about the people we had invited to the party and the plans and ate silently. I looked at her frequently.

 

As soon as we finished eating I looked at my watch.

 

“Wow!” I exclaimed.

 

“What is it?” Leah said sleepily.

 

“It’s 9:10!” I exclaimed again.

 

“Really?” she sounded surprised too.

 

“Yeah. Let’s walk fast and reach home soon, Sue will think I have kidnapped you.” I joked.

 

“Yeah right,” She smirked.

 

Leah walked on the side facing the footpath and I facing the driveway. We had a little more than half distance left to reach the car when I saw a couple of guys loafing on the bench under the street light. They were probably in their twenties.

 

I saw them give Leah an approving look; I felt anger rush through me. Leah was looking down so she didn’t notice their looks. We walked at our normal pace of rushing; I didn’t want to make those loafers feel we were scared of them or something. Just as we had left them I heard foot-steps follow us. I heard them whistle, Leah came closer to me.

 

“Hey babe,” I heard them call. This was a lonely street so it was no good fighting them, I might lose and they might get Leah.

 

This time I pulled Leah close to my chest; I put my arm around her shoulders and held her firmly.

 

“Come on, come with us.” The voice continued, I had heard this voice before though I didn’t know where. Leah stiffened.

 

“Yeah babe, leave blacky boy and join us, we will give you the time of your life.” He said sarcastically, I wanted to turn and kill that jerk for talking like this to Leah, but then she put her hand across my waist and pulled me even closer thought there was no space left between us, her hands were dug into me that I couldn’t risk the fight, they were bulky kinda guys.

 

Finally we reached my car and I opened the door for Leah. She went in.

 

 I went to the other side and sat in soon, those loafers were a few feet behind us.

 

“Don’t leave us babe.” I heard him.

 

I quickly got in and started the car. I didn’t speak any thing, I glanced at Leah and she looked scared. I accelerated the pace of the car.

 

“I m so sorry,” I said in a low voice looking at her as we reached the highway.

 

“Why?” she said raising her eyebrows.

 

“Because of that back there,” I whispered.

 

“Not your fault.” She said in a comforting voice.

 

“Anyways I had a great time today and the dinner was the best part, forget whatever happened after dinner” She said in a comforting tone. She sounded kind of excited.

 

“Yeah we got to do something like this often.” I said biting my lip hoping I hadn’t said something she didn’t like.

 

“Sure Jake.” She said yawning, I laughed at her. She closed her eyes and leaned on the window. She slowly drifted to sleep; she probably didn’t sleep well last night.

 

I stopped car in front of her house. Leah was undisturbed by this abrupt stop.

 

“Leah?” I said in a soft tone. She didn’t answer; I didn’t feel like waking her up. But I had to.

 

“Leah you are home.” I said in a voice bit higher she barely moved.

 

“Leah?” I said louder again, if she didn’t move I would carry her. I moved my hand through her hair, it felt too good.

 

“Hmm…” she mumbled opening her eyes.

 

“You are home.” I smiled and then took back my hand.

 

“Oh okay.” She kinda sat up, but I could tell she would fall if I let her walk alone.

 

I opened my door got down, she was still wearing my jacket and I let her wear it. I grabbed the cover in which I had bought her a shirt.

 

I pulled Leah gently out of the car balancing her by her waist. Her eyes were barely open; she was probably doing sleep walking I knocked at the door.

 

“Oh it’s you.” Sue said in relief as she open the door. She looked at Leah and raised her eyebrows.

 

“She fell asleep in the car.” I explained smiling apologetically.

 

Sue smiled back. I handed her the cover. And then carried Leah in my arms.

 

“I will leave her to her room.” I explained feeling awkward. Leah was fast asleep.

 

“Yeah sure,” She said and led the way. Leah was very much comfortable as I carried her. I was in seventh heaven of delight…she fit perfectly in my arms.

 

Sue opened the door and I put Leah gently on her bed. I looked around; I had never been in Leah’s room.

 

“Thanks Jacob. She really needed an evening out.” Sue said in her motherly voice and placed the cover on the table.

 

“No problem,” I said rubbing the back of my head

 

“Okay Sue, I gotta go now, Charlie will be worried. Good night.” I said.

 

“Good night Jake.” She said. I hurried downstairs and outside the house.

 

I quickly drove back home thinking about how it felt to have Leah my arms and I also thought about how she had pulled me closer while we had been walking away from those guys. I frowned then, I had heard the first guy some where probably in La Push itself, I decided to ask Leah later. I reached home and parked my car in the garage.

 

I rang the bell, Bella opened the door.

 

“Where were you?” she said surprised.

 

“Told you right at the mall, sorry I should have called.” I said blushing a bit. Thank fully she didn’t notice.

 

“We were worried,” She told me as I headed in. I looked in the living room, Charlie was home.

 

“Yeah we were,” He said.

 

“Bella even called you continuously.” He added.

 

“Oh… I had kept my phone in the silent mode.” I explained. I didn’t want to be disturbed when I was with Leah.

 

“Hmm…okay now both of you go back to your beds, you have school tomorrow.” Charlie said and moved back to the TV.

 

As I turned I saw Bella eyes me suspiciously, I had the gift I had bought for her in the car but I held Leah’s jacket in my hand.

 

“Are you wearing girly jackets now Jake?” she teased eying the jacket as we walked upstairs.

 

“It’s not mine,” I smiled lopsidedly.

 

“Really? Whose is it then?” she asked.

 

“Em…Leah’s,” it was barely audible.

 

“So was it a date?” she asked getting excited.

 

“No.” I answered abruptly, I could see that she wanted to ask more questions but I stopped her by saying, “sorry Bells I gotta go and hit the sack, I m tired.” I said.

 

“Okay. Good night.” She said meekly and headed to her room.

 

“Yeah you too,” I replied.

 

I closed the door behind me and looked at Leah’s jacket in my arm. I stared at it for a while and lay it on the chair.

 

Oh Leah…you have taken over my mind.

Chapter 7: Catch the bad boy by his toe

 

Jacob’s Pov:

 

School got over sooner than I expected, I headed toward my Rabbit slinging my side bag over my shoulders. Many younger girls were staring at me, I kinda felt gratified. It was a great feeling to be having watched by girls. As I walked down the steps I heard a squeaky voice call me.

 

“Jacob.” It was way too squeaky. I knew this voice very well.

 

“It’s me Jessica.” It said. Wow surprise!

 

“Hey Jessica,” I said turning back with a forced smile.

 

“Can I walk with you?” she asked battling her lashes. Com-on dude how fake can she get?

 

“Sure sure,” I turned back and she happily started walking with me. I took out my cell and flipped it open.

 

“I m looking forward to Bella’s party,” She said in an excited voice.

 

“Yeah me too,” I said in the exact opposite tone.

 

“So where’s your car?” I asked as she didn’t turn away to the other side of the parking lot to get her car saying a ‘bye’ or ‘see ya later’.

 

“Well that’s one reason why I wanted to walk with you today,” she blushed a bit while saying this.

 

“Excuse me?” I asked raising my eye brows.

 

“Well something’s wrong with my car so I want you to check it out for Me.” she explained.

 

“Oh…okay.” I said taking a deep breath.

 

“I mean now Jacob,” she sort of demanded.

 

“Okay fine.” I said in an irritated voice and we sat down in my car.

 

 I decided to go back to Charlie’s place hide Bella’s gifts, give the baker’s right directions to drop Bella’s birthday cake at the right place and then later I wanted to go down to La Push and check out Leah. I smiled. It was kinda uncomfortable to sit with Jessica, she kept looking at me and I kept ignoring her.

 

Soon we reached at Jessica’s place.

 

“Want to have a soda?” she said gesturing me inside.

 

“No I m busy, I need to go back as soon as I finish working on your car,” I replied.

 

She took me to her garage and there stood her old lancer car. I just wanted to run out on her but I was too polite for that. maybe if Embry or Quil had been here…no way, either one of them would have been making out with her and that’s probably Embry, he was too much of a ladies man.

 

“What’s the problem?” I asked.

 

“It just won’t start.” She answered.

 

I opened the bonnet and started checking out the engine and the wires connected to it. I felt a shadow on my right side; reflexively I looked up startled banging my head at the bonnet.

 

“Ow.” I cried holding my head. It was Jessica who was standing over my right side.

 

“Oh Jacob are you all right?” she said in her squeaky coming closer to me. She put her hand through my hair, I was still in pain.

 

 

Few seconds passed and then I realized the situation, I was leaning back, Jessica had her left hand on my face and her right hand was on my chest. She was mumbling what according to her was comforting things, it all sounded like crap to me.

 

“Umm…sorry,” I said blushing and moved back to the car.

 

“That’s okay, I liked it.” She said boldly and I raised my eyebrows higher than I had ever done. I wanted to puke when I heard these words. I regretted on agreeing to come with her.

 

I decided not to answer.

 

I wanted to finish my job quickly and go back home, so I went through the wires connected to the engine, my hands were now greasy, just then I saw that a few wires had been pulled off. By pulled off I mean it was done by intention. My anger rose, so Jessica had called me here just to let me spend my time here with her, so very stupid and immature. I started fitting the wires back to the engine. I was controlling my anger too; I didn’t want to be rude.

 

Just then I heard the phone ring, it was on the table. I couldn’t get the phone, my hands were still greasy.

 

“Shall I get it?” I heard Jessica ask. I decided to give her a rude reply but then I thought what if it was something important. Maybe it was Charlie’s call.

 

“Yeah,” I said grudgingly.

 

“Hello, Jacob’s phone,” She answered the call.

 

“Jessica and I don’t think you know me.” I heard her say. I wanted to know who it was, I was getting curious.

 

“Well, he is actually busy.” She said in a sly and peculiar voice, she winked at me. What was she doing? Did she want the person talking to her think we were making out?

 

“Jessica! Give the phone to me.” I said wiping my greasy hands with a plain cloth.

 

“No Jake!” She said playfully. Jake? Nobody except the people who know me closely called me that and she knew that well enough I felt my anger rise; I couldn’t bear her acting like this.

 

I went over to her and grabbed the phone from her.

 

“Ouch…careful,” She said and then started giggling.

 

“Hello?!” I breathed.

 

“Apparently I can see you are busy.” I heard a voice snap at me.

 

“Leah.” I said in a soft voice.

 

“Bye.” She hung upon me.

 

I turned to face at Jessica.

 

“What the hell were you doing?” I shouted. I didn’t like the way Leah snapped at me.

 

“Com-on Jacob, I was just fooling around.” She rolled her eyes.

 

“Well I don’t like your fooling.” I spat at her.

 

“Chill! It’s not like she is your girlfriend and because of me she broke up with you” she squeaked out a lame excuse. But then I realized that I was acting like what she thought, I kinda calmed down.

 

“I fixed your car and now I m leaving.” I said in a calm voice and turned away from her. Ugh how I hated her!

 

“Wait! What was wrong with my car?” she asked.

 

“Yeah right! Like you didn’t know.” I said angrily turning towards her. All my calmness vanished when she asked this question.

 

“Yeah I don’t,” she said stubbornly.

 

“Well let me tell it to then, the reason why your car wasn’t working was because you deliberately pulled off a few wires to get me here,” I said dramatically.

 

She didn’t say anything, so finally I turned away from her and stomped out of her garage.

 

When I went in the car I calmed down. I had acted very dramatically, I shouldn’t have done that. Anger just rose in me and I couldn’t keep it down, I wasn’t this kind of a person so I was quite surprised at myself. But I was sure of one thing, it all happened when Jessica played that stupid joke on Leah. But why should I feel bad? Then I realized I had been thinking a lot about Leah lately.

 

Did it mean that we were something more than friends?

 

I wanted to deny this but it just made me feel very good when I thought of this.

 

A/N: Boys are so annoying at times! But even girls sometimes are…! *sigh*
