Preface:
Edward has been gone for months. He wasn't coming back. and i wasn't going to sit around and wait, waste away. I had to leave. Everything. everything.

Chapter 1- Goodbyes
Life had become too painful. I had given up hope long ago of Edward coming back for me. 3 months had passed and things weren’t getting any better. Even my best friend Jacob had lost hope in me. Every night I would lie in my bed, clutching my chest so it wouldn’t fall to pieces. I would lie like that all night, protecting my broken heart.

School would pass by in a flurry, a blur but still long torture. I would sit in class spacing off, while the teachers tried to get my attention. But nothing could bring me back to reality, I was far too gone into my love, my life. It felt like life had come to an end.
Despite Charlie’s protesting I had decided to leave for Jacksonville. This may be one way, If I wanted to try to get any better.

“Bella, I know things are hard, now, but I’m sure they’ll get better.” Charlie pleaded.

“Charlie, I know what’s best for me. And staying here in Forks is certainly not going to help.” We had had this conversation many times before, but now was the time I planned on leaving, driving all the way to Jacksonville.

We were by the front door, my suitcases in my hand. Charlie gripped the end of one, an attempt to pull me back. “Please Bells.” He pleaded again with sorrow filled eyes. “Don’t leave me again.”

As he said that it only made me want to run into his arms and comfort him. But this was my life at stake and I needed to do what was best for me.

“No Charlie, I’m not leaving you, just doing what’s best for me.” And with tear filled eyes I ran to my car. God….. All I ever did was cry these days.
I pulled open the car door with such force I was afraid it would come off its hinges. I hopped into the truck and slammed the rusty door shut.

As the car rumbled to life I chanced a glance back to the house. I saw Charlie Peering out the window with tears rolling down his face. I shook my head trying to remember this is what is best, this is what is best. With that I threw my suitcases into the backseat and backed out of the driveway.

Chapter 3- Savior
Adam’s POV

The hospital had been slow today, the best in the world when the poor creatures could be spared. They got hurt so easily, it was a miracle they were in such and abundant population. I was walking to the Cafe to take my scheduled break, when I was called to from one of the nurses behind the counter. I wondered which one. They both had very similar voices.

"Doctor?" the nurse called again. I turned reluctantly, Diana, of course. I felt her flat eyes scavenge my face trying to lock mine with her. She never gave up did she? Her mind showed ,me a brief flash of a future together, kids, faceless since they didn’t exist, happy smiles, but just smiles, and all other gooey, 'sweet' stuff. I couldn't help the shudder that escaped my control as she smiled dreamily.

“Yes Dianna?” I answered warily. I had to be careful around her, I couldn't lead her on, it wasn't fair for her. Better she think me an insensitive jerk than her to have the wrong impression.

She seemed to have picked up on my weariness because her face went immediately into a frown, her lip pulling out into a pout. I felt the guilt immediately as always after I had to reject her in some way. It wasn't that she wasn't attractive, she was. But how can I lead her on? We wouldn't be able to have the family she wanted, she yearned for.
She composed first. "Well doctor there was this Massive accident on the free way and we have many hurt here. I'm afraid you won’t have time for your break now." I was glad for the interrupted break, I didn't have to sit at a table pretending to drink coffee. She had been serious but I could feel the flirty attitude. I was glad she didn't resent me.

"How badly are they hurt? Any major injuries?"

"No, nothing life threatening, it was major, but it was slow traffic." I was relieved there weren't any major cases.

"Ok, Thank you Dianna." I said as she handed me a Clipboard. I was ready to leave and tend to the sick, my calling.
I looked through the list as I walked down the hallway and whistled. This must have been a major crash if this many people were hurt. I kept walking as I skimmed though. At the top of the list was a girl. She had a broken leg, arm, a rib, and had a possible concussion.

I looked through one more time and it didn’t have a name at the top. How strange. I located her room and walked into it. I was taken aback at the beauty radiating off of her.
Her brown hair circled around her head like a halo. Her face was soft, smooth, rested. She was deep in dream. Her skin was pale, much like mine. As I stepped into the room her eyelids fluttered open.

Had I awakened her? I hoped not. Her eyes were restless, staring from one thing to the next. I was happy she hadn’t noticed me in the door frame for I was lost in her deep chocolate brown eyes.

I recollected myself and walked over to her. “Hi. I’m Adam. And I’ll be taking care of you.” She seemed lost in thought. I let her be.

“What happened to me?” She asked rather strangely, like she hadn’t the faintest idea of anything.

“Don’t you remember?” I tried to hide the surprise in my voice. Even people with concussions normally remember what

happened to them. She still seemed lost, so I decided to tell her. “You were in a car crash.”

“No I don’t remember.” She answered, then the explosion, “I don’t remember anything!” The monitor went wild. She looked as though she was about to cry. I acted quickly, hoping she wouldn’t. I wouldn’t be able to stand it if I saw such a beautiful angel in tears.

“Calm down. Everything is O.K.” I tried my best to sooth her, or to at least calm her down enough so I could examine her properly. Then I saw her cringe in pain. My automatic response was to go over and comfort her, but I knew I couldn’t do that, not here or now at least.

“Adam.” I heard her breathe. I smiled in response, as did she. At that moment I felt my whole world shift, and she was my sun, my love, my savior.
