As Bella sat staring out her bedroom window life continued on as if no one was aware of her broken heart. She really had no concern for what time of year it was or what the world was doing outside her bedroom window; the only thing on her mind was Edward and why he had chosen to leave her. She had loved him with her whole heart and every fiber of her being but it hadn’t been enough he left her anyway. She had tried to lie and convince herself that she had been better off without him but she knew the truth. The truth was she would never be the same, could never be the same without him. So instead of venturing out to start a new life and moving on as everyone had told her to she sat curled up in her chair and watched life go on outside her window trying to live the memories they had shared. Alice had been by her side and had tried to tell her that Edward loved her and that the only reason he had left was because he had honestly thought it was best for her, safer for her. Bella blamed herself for everything that had went wrong and she blamed herself for the fact that in the end he had gotten himself killed anyway. He had left leaving her behind and not only that but he had tried to take everything that would remind her of him, but he couldn’t take her heart. Her heart remembered every touch, every kiss and every moment spent with him and she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he loved her, had always loved her. With that knowledge she and Alice had ran as fast as possible to Italy to try and stop him from making the most ultimate of sacrifices but they had been too late. He had stood in the middle of the plaza in the glaring high noon sun amid thousands and thousands of humans as they sat, stood and froze at the vision before them. Edward in the sunlight had been beautiful, magnificent. He was like a god, with rainbow shards glimmering on the sidewalk and reflecting off the windows, sparkling like a diamond. Of course the Volturi couldn’t let that happen so he had been seized immediately and taken beyond the palace gates to never be seen again. The crowds began to murmur but in the end they had been led to believe that it had all been an illusion, a trick of the brilliant sunlight. Bella and Alice had arrived just a minute too late. As they had raced as fast as they could down the corridors and up the winding steps that led them to the colorless, cavern like room that held him they could hear his tortured screams as his life ebbed away. As they barged into the room they saw him lying in the floor with his life already gone, his body a crumbled heap on the floor. Bella had held what was left him in her arms and cried hysterically begging for someone, anyone to bring him back to her for she knew she could live without many things but to live without the hope of ever seeing him again was impossible. She had already tried to live without him once and it hadn’t worked and she knew it wouldn’t work now for now all hope was gone, dead in her arms. Here she sat on the cobblestone floor with the pieces of her one true love in her arms knowing that from that moment forward she would never see his tousled bronze hair, his crooked smile or the love that would shine so bright in his eyes that it was impossible to see anything else. She had held him until the guards had taken him away and she smelled the fire and knew that her life as she had known it was over. So now here she was a lifeless entity with no thought of living but just barely existing. She was a shell of the person she had once been. She asked herself every day how had it ended like this? How was she supposed to go on now? She had given up on life and only wanted to live in her dream world where Edward was as alive as he had ever been. As she drifted further and further away Edward watched her and ached to ease her pain. He only asked for one more day with her or even just an hour he just needed to take her pain away. He too blamed himself for everything that had happened and only wanted to tell Bella that somehow, someway everything would be okay, that she would be okay.
Edward never intended to enter Bella’s room, but he could see her curled up on her bed with tears still drying on her cheeks. She was clutching an old Harvard sweatshirt that had once been his. He was drawn inside by the very smell of her drifting through the open window; how many times had he been here before? How many nights had she left her window cracked for his late night entries? He wondered if she did this out of habit or in hope that he would somehow come back. He quietly swung his legs over the window seal and lowered himself soundlessly inside. The room was exactly as he remembered it. The soft sweet floral scent of her lingered in the air and just seemed to pull him in. He could see her Chap Stick and hair clasps strewn on the vanity; she had never been very organized. He laughed as the memories filled his mind, Bella looking for her keys or searching for her i-pod. As he continued to scan the room his gaze settled on a corner shelf and he felt his chest tighten. It wasn’t the deep blue corsage from prom or the crumbled movie tickets from their one and only attempt at a normal date nor was it the baseball from their very first date but it was the 5 x10 framed photos. He could see Bella in his mind’s eye chewing on her bottom lip and how she had objected to having her picture taken. He had tried to take everything that might cause her unnecessary pain when he left but Bella had clung to every memory like a lifeline. He could see the rocking chair where he had sat so many nights and watched her sleep. How many times had he sat in that very chair and wished to be a part of her world rather than his own? He crossed the room and saw his Cullen family baseball cap on her bed post. He realized that there were traces of him everywhere, as if she refused to let him go. He quickly gathered all these left over reminders and placed them beside the window as if their absence would wash away all memory of him. He had been wrong to think that she would ever let go or forget so easily. He now stood by her bedside and watched the soft moonlight illuminate her perfect face. He could see the faint tracks where her tears had fallen before sleep had finally taken over. His poor Bella, she would always be his Bella and it made his very being ache to see her in such turmoil. Edward tried to imagine what it would be like to never see her again, to envision her with someone else but the vision just wouldn’t come. He couldn’t think of her as anything but his, she would always be his. He just couldn’t fathom not knowing or remembering her. He continued to stand at her side mesmerized by the rise and fall of her uneven breathing and the beauty that was Bella. She began to toss and turn, tangling the sheets and he could see pain radiating from every pore of her body. He heard her call his name as if what was left of her heart was breaking into tiny fragmented slivers that would never be put back in quiet the right place again. He thought of Adrianna the angel of time and memory maybe she was right it would be better for everyone to forget. He could not bear to see Bella in such turmoil and unending pain, if forgetting would heal her and make her whole then that was what he would do. He touched the small flask in his pocket and the leather pouch that she had given him and he knew what he had to do. As he stood and lovingly watched her, trying to memorize every facet of her face and ever sigh and moan that escaped her lips she slowly opened her lovely brown eyes. She blinked twice and then smiled a radiant smile that shone brighter than the sun.
“This dream is much nicer than the other ones.”
He smiled as he walked to the edge of her bed and knelt by her side, to clasp her hand firmly in his. He saw the life sparkling back into her once dull eyes. She smiled so serenely and so lovingly it made him ache for what he knew would come next.
“Bella, love I have missed you so.”
“Oh Edward I can’t even put into words how much the absence of you has turned my world upside down leaving a huge hole where my heart should be.”
Edward cringed as the words fell freely from her sweet lips. He knew that Bella had no reason to censor her words she would never lie to him, unlike the blasphemy that had poured out of his mouth when he had left. He regretted the harm he had caused her and would gladly do it over again if he could but he knew that would never happen. He drew a ragged breath and tried to form the words that he needed to say.
“Bella please listen for I do not have much time. I need to share some things with you and I hope that you understand and that somehow you will remember that you once knew a boy who loved you more than life itself.”
Edward could see the look of confusion filling her eyes and worry knitting her brow. As she gazed into his eyes she pulled on her bottom lip and he knew she was already fretting about what he had to say. She reluctantly nodded her head and waited for him to continue.
“Bella I know when I leave here tonight you will have no memory of me or this conversation but I still feel the overwhelming need to explain and apologize for the things that I caused to happen. I have always loved you even before I knew you I loved you. I spent my entire existence waiting for you. I was wrong for thinking I could walk away from you and I am so sorry for the pain I caused you. I want you to know that nothing that happened was your fault if there is any blame it falls solely on me. I made my decisions and I alone am to blame for what came next. My love for you was so vast that nothing could measure the depth of my love for you. Bella before you my life was a cold, dark and miserable place and then you came along and pulled me out of the darkness that had become my life. It was you brought my cold dead heart back to life and at times it was as if I could hear it beating. I knew I should have left before things went too far but I wasn’t strong enough to leave you or to deprive myself of your company so I stayed. I am so sorry that my selfishness has caused you so much pain.”
Edward had to stop before he came completely undone and became a blubbering mess. He rested his head on the edge of the bed and felt Bella’s butterfly soft touch as she began to run her fingers through his tousled hair. He marveled at the exquisite feel of her hand and knew that was just one of the many things he would be missing tomorrow. She began to mummer soft words of love and comfort in his ear and he could feel the warmth of her breath and the touch of her lips grazing his skin. Edward struggled to lift his head and see her troubled eyes looking expectantly at him.
“Bella promise me something.”
He waited as she looked at him and nodded her head. Edward knew she wouldn’t remember him come morning but maybe she would be able to somehow keep this promise.
“Love please don’t stop living. You have to promise me you will get up each day and take whatever cards are dealt and make the most of whatever this life has to offer. I want you to believe in the gift of love. I know when I leave you tonight that all our memories will fade and our life together will be no more than a dream that never came true, our lives as we have known them will be over. I know that time will pass and life will go on, but Bella my heart will remember when you were mine and my heart will not let me forget. I know that if there is any possible way for my spirit to come back to this earth that I will find my way back to you. I love you always your name and memory will be etched in my heart for eternity and beyond and I will find my way back to you.”
Edward raised Bella’s hand to his lips and gently pressed them to each of her fingers, then her palm. He slowly made his way up her neck until he found her mouth that was parted waiting to meet him half way. He savored the feel of her lips and the teasing of her anxious tongue as it assaulted his. He felt very much alive as if a million tiny fireworks were exploding behind his closed eyelids and the sensations that ran through his body had him shivering in want. Edward struggled to bring this life altering kiss to an end even though it was the last thing he wanted to do. He carefully pushed Bella away and let her head fall to rest on his chest. As he held her close he felt the rapid beating of her heart and the shallow breaths she now drew in and out. She raised her head slightly and looked at him questioningly.
“Edward I know this is a dream, your lips are so soft and warm and the touch of your hand so soothing as if you’re taking all my pain away.”
He sighed and drew her closer to his chest so she would not see the truth hiding in his eyes. Edward never wanted her to feel an ounce of pain ever again. He knew she had endured enough for a lifetime already. He would not let her continue to suffer because of him and his poor judgment.
“Bella, my Bella I love you so much and it is for you I am doing the unthinkable. Please try to get up each day and put one foot in front of the other and see where this new life takes you. You just have to breathe in and out and know that there will always be someone out there who always has and always will love you.”
He eased her back on her pillows and stood beside her bed. She was watching him as silent tears began to fall down her face. He held out his hand to catch one and clutched it in his fist as if that would thrust all her pain onto him. He would leave until she fell asleep. He slowly made his way to the window before glancing over his shoulder.
“Edward please come back I don’t want to be alone anymore. Just don’t go until I have fallen asleep.”
He could see her outstretched arms reaching for him. That one simple request was all that it took and he was by her side. He lay beside her and held her close to his heart. He would do this one thing for her before he left, he would stay until sleep came.
“Love close your eyes and go to sleep. “
He lost all track of time as he closed his eyes and tried to ingrain every memory firmly in his mind. He would not let himself forget one second of his life with Bella. He had no idea how long it was before she drifted off to sleep. He lay perfectly still beside her and listened to her strong heart beat until her breathing evened out and her soft mummers fell silent. The time had come. He rose from the bed and gripped the pouch in his hand. Edward quickly before changing his mind shook the memory dust in the air and watched as it fell on Bella’s sleeping body. He could see the tiny particles floating like tiny dust fairies in the shimmering moonlight. He knew in the morning any memory or idea she had of him would be forgotten forever. Edward could hear her talking in her sleep and calling out for him. The hardest thing he had ever done was turn away from his heart and walk to the window. He gathered up all reminders of the past before looking over his shoulder one last time. He drank in the sight of his Bella, his love, the only heaven he ever wanted to know. He pushed himself off the window ledge and landed softly on his feet already running to the forest. He found a place to stop and he took the flask out of his pocket. He knew that Adrianna would be here soon and that he had to finish this. He removed the cork and turned the bottle up and drained the dark, bitter liquid it held inside. It took his breath away as he felt a burn going down his throat and then back up again. He had never felt such pain not even as a new born. He threw the empty flask watching as it shattered into the bushes. He cursed the vile fluid that by the light of the morning sun would have erased all memory of his heart.
“Edward come we have to leave.”
He looked up to see Adrianna standing before him. She was so graceful and beautiful in a majestic kind of way. When she took him in her arms and unfolded her golden wings it was mind altering. She was indeed a sight to behold. She took off and within seconds they were in Heaven’s gates. Edward looked around and nothing had changed it was just as it had been earlier. He could see the streets of gold, he could hear choirs of angels singing the most beautiful hymns ever written but amid all the beauty and perfection he still missed his Bella. He hadn’t been sure what to expect but he knew that at some point Bella would be gone from him forever.
He looked at Adrianna waiting to see what was to become of him now. As her eyes rested on Edward he could see mercy and pity shine in her angel’s eyes.
“Edward you know that I am the angel of time and memory. I don’t think you really understand what that means but I am going to explain it to you. When you went to Italy and begged to be killed I was watching you. Bella and Alice raced to get to you but they arrived too late. I watched as Bella held your broken body in her arms. She was devastated and she pleaded and begged for someone to give back her Edward. I heard her cries and that is why I brought you here. I feel that even though your heart had ceased to beat it was still a good heart and you Edward were a good person. I think you lived an honorable life despite the circumstance you found yourself in. I feel that had you been able to live your life you would have been a selfless person who would have changed the world for the better. It is for these reasons that I think you deserve a second chance. I had to be sure that you had Bella’s best interest at heart, so I sent you to see her and to see if you would be unselfish. I know how you wanted to leave and not enter her room but you did it for her. I know how hard that was for you seeing her like that and then to talk to her and touch her for the last time and yet you never faltered you did the one thing that broke what was left of your heart. You chose to make Bella’s life better even though it meant her forgetting you completely. I gave you the potion that at first light will wipe your memory clean, at that time I am sending you back to earth for a second chance to be human. I hope you are able to have a chance at love, happiness and the life you were meant to have because you Edward Anthony Masen deserve it. Good luck Edward now sleeps and when morning comes go and find your place in the world for no foot print is too small to leave its mark.”
He watched as she began to sparkle so bright he had to cover his eyes and then in a shower of light she was gone. He had so many unanswered questions. He didn’t see how he could possibly not remember Bella and even if his human mind forgot he vowed that some way, somehow he would find her again.
He fought to stay awake to not close his eyes but eventually he lost the battle and he succumbed to the effect of the potion. He closed his eyes as visions of Bella filled his dreams.
Hi Kristahra thank you so much for reading and yes Aro gotten taken down and by a woman no less all though she was an angel but still I thought it was poetic justice. I am sorry I made you want to cry but I wanted to convey how I would feel if I had to say goodbye to my parents or someone close. Thanks again for reading.

As Edward watched the shimmering light fade he felt another piece of his heart breaking. He stared at the peaceful blue sky where his parents had been only seconds before but he felt anything but peaceful. What would this new human life be like now? As if Bella sensed his unease he felt her hand firmly close over his and he drew strength by the love he felt in that simple touch. He enclosed her in his arms and buried his head in her soft tresses as he finally let the tears fall. Bella held him and let him cry for the void that was left behind as his parents vanished from sight, for the loss of the Cullen's the only family he had known for over eighty years and for the fear of not knowing what his new human existence had in store for him. Finally he eased back and looked in Bella's eyes and saw only love, understanding and support staring back at him.
He looked away from Bella’s watchful eye as he mumbled, "Sorry about that."
Bella placed one delicate finger on his trembling lips. "No don't be. There's no need for apologies or embarrassment. I love you Edward Anthony Masen Cullen and with that love comes good times, hard times as well as bad times. We're in this together and when you hurt I hurt, when you're happy I'm happy whatever we do we do it together so please don't ever apologize for feeling what you feel.”
Edward could feel his heart begin to beat at a slightly slower pace and his lips curved in that crooked smile that made Bella’s breath catch. He had no idea what lay ahead but he knew that as long as Bella was by his side he’d be just fine.
“So what do we do now?”
Bella slide her arm through his and began to walk along the beach toward Renee’s. “Now we have dinner with mom and Phil.”
Edward smiled as he let Bella drag him along the beach at a leisurely pace; as if they had been building sand castles rather than facing angry vampires. “That sounds great.”
Bella started walking backwards in front of him, “Oh let’s be honest it’s boring but Renee is usually good for a laugh or two.”
Edward pulled Bella back by his side as they continued walking. “It sounds normal and normal sounds good right about now.”
“Trust me dinner with Renee is never normal let’s just hope she doesn’t try to cook.”
Edward and Bella’s laughter mingled together and drifted along the salty ocean air. As they approached the house Edward stopped and looked at Bella and wondered how he had gotten so lucky. She was quirky, clumsy, as pale as a vampire and self conscience. Bella was anything but ordinary and she was absolutely perfect for him. He loved the way her hair smelled like fresh picked strawberries, the way her skin turned a soft shade of pink at the simple touch of his hand and the way she stumbled over her own two feet giving him the opportunity to catch her before she fell. She was beautiful, amazing and she was his.
“Bella in case I didn’t tell you earlier thanks for today, for being there and giving me the strength I needed to let them go. I adore you Isabella Marie Swan and I will spend the rest of my life proving how much I love you.”
Bella leaned toward Edward on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his. She could feel the way his breath caught and then he was kissing her back. He could feel the beat of her heart through her shirt and the goose bumps on her arm in exactly the same place his fingers had just been. He slowly brought the kiss to an end as he heard a car pulling in the drive behind them. He knew he should feel embarrassed at being caught making out on the sidewalk by Renee but oddly enough he didn’t care at all. He realized that life was too short to waste time on the trivial, unimportant things that by tomorrow would be forgotten. He gazed at Bella's face and he knew that he had been given the greatest gift of all a life with her. He would take this second chance and live each day as if it were his last and he would not let fear make him miss anything this life had to offer. He pulled Bella close and walked to the front porch to join Renee.
"Hey kids looks like you had a good day."
Edward could see the wink Renee gave Bella as she unlocked the door. “I hope you guys are hungry we're grilling tonight."
Bella looked at Renee questioningly. "Mom..."
Renee held one hand up and placed the other on her slender hip. "Phil's doing the grilling so don't look at me that way." Renee stuck her lip out in a pout.
"Mom you’re not offended so don't pretend to be. I'll help you with the sides while Edward keeps Phil company."
Edward placed a quick kiss on Bella's cheek before carrying the shrimp to the deck. Bella smiled as she watched his retreating back...
As the evening sun slowly slipped beyond the horizon ending another day she paced furiously from the fireplace to the window. she had been trying in vain to get some vision of the future as it pertained to her and her family but all she got was fuzzy black and white lines like a television that was on the fritz. She stopped walking and looked at Jasper as an idea began to form in her mind.
“Jazz maybe I’m trying too hard or there’s a decision yet to be made. What did Edward and Elizabeth say before they flitted away?”
Jasper crossed the room and pulled Alice into his arms and held her close. She had paced the floor so much he was surprised that there was any left in front of the window. “Alice, honey we have to be patient.”
Alice leaned away from Jasper just enough to grimace at him. “Jazz patience has never been one of my talents.”
Jasper tried to hid his smile but didn’t quite pull it off. “Sorry Al, but Elizabeth and Edward told us to be patient. I’m sure that time for us and time for them are two totally different things. Alice they will be back.”
Alice looked warily at Jasper and wondered if he was right. She had all these doubts and worries about what this secret meeting they had left to attend was all about. She had been trying to see Edward and Bella’s future but try as she might she still couldn’t see clearly and she wondered what that was all about.
“Jazz I still don’t see us at the wedding.”
Jasper caressed Alice’s back in soothing strokes and watched her stormy eyes. “Alice you know how it works; it changes based on the decisions people make.”
“True but Edward and Bella will be married so why can’t I see us there too?”
Jasper kissed the tip of Alice’s upturned nose. “Maybe because the deciding factor hasn’t been made yet or maybe we’re there but not so involved. Honestly Alice I have no idea and neither do you so just relax and enjoy the fact that we’re still here at all.”
Alice laid her head on Jasper’s shoulder and marveled at how he knew her so well. She wouldn’t stop fretting and worrying but he knew that too. She reveled in the feel of his arms as he held her close to his silent heart that if he could would make it beat just for her. She finally unable to stand still for another moment began bobbing on her tip toes. She placed a chaste kiss to his cheek and danced just out of his reach and began dialing a number on speed dial. Jasper watched her face as a dozen emotions flitted across her brow until finally someone picked up on the other end.
“Edward how are you? How’s Bella?”
Jasper continued to watch as a brilliant smile appeared on her pixie like face. He listened as Alice talked for several minutes and then promised to take care of his little favor. She ended the call and vaulted over the back of the couch like a ballet dancer on speed. He laughed as she jumped into his lap and threw her arms around his neck while smothering him a dozen little kisses. He laughed at the excitement he saw flashing in her eyes.
“Edward and Bella are fine. Edward said they would be home in a couple of days. Despite the fact that I don’t know what our place is in their future I am happy that it’s over. Jazz can you believe it Edward human? He and Bella will have babies and well we just have to be around to see that and to experience that.” Alice looked lost in deep thought as she whispered the words again almost reverently. “Can’t you must imagine having a baby, a little bitty baby to love and hold.”
Jasper could see and hear the longing in her voice and he ached to give her what she so obviously wanted. He promised to love her, take care of her and to do his utmost best to give her every dream and that her heart desired but try as he might he would never be able to do that one simple thing give her a baby of their own.
“Yes Alice I can imagine it.”
Alice jumped out of Jasper’s arms and danced across the room and up the stairs. He could hear her rummaging around upstairs and wondered what she was looking for but he was sure it had something to do with Edward’s ‘favor’. He watched the bottom of the staircase for Alice’s return and a few seconds later she was back in his arms.
“So pixie what was with the sudden need for the laptop?”
Alice looked at Jasper as if he were a young child. “Edward needs to talk to Charlie.”
Jasper frowned still not getting the relevance of the laptop. “So why doesn’t he pick up the phone and call him?”
Alice pats his arm as if she is explaining the necessity of bedtime to a young child. “He wants to speak to Renee and Charlie together so I’m taking the computer to Charlie so he can use the webcam.”
Jasper nodded his head in understanding. “So he’s going to do it?”
Alice clapped her hands in excitement. “Yes but I have to get this to Charlie before six, so are you up for a run?”
Jasper joined Alice at the door. “I’ll race you.” With that Jasper shot out the door like a rocket and a giggling Alice ran after him.
After the shimmering light faded Edward and Elizabeth looked around the unending beauty that surrounded them and yet there was still a void in their heart. Elizabeth watched through the clouds as Edward and Bella walked along the sandy beach looking very much in love. She had feared that he would be guilt ridden by what had transpired moments earlier. She placed her hand on her cheek as if to catch a tear that had escaped her eye but there were no tears in heaven. She held her palm to her cheek and watched as her son held Bella close and she knew that he had truly found his soul mate.
“Honey we have to let go now.”
Elizabeth nodded and took her husband’s hand. “Do you think he’ll be okay?”
Edward Sr. shrugged as he walked toward the majestic gates that led to the celestial city. “He’s smart kid and he has a good support system. We know the Cullen’s love him and they will help him.”
Elizabeth knew he was right but she had grown to love the Cullen’s over the years as well. She had watched for decades as they had given her son a life, a home and a family. She knew they had been an unconventional family but they had loved and nurtured her baby and helped him to become the wonderful man that he was now. An idea began to form in her mind and as if her husband could read her every thought he nodded his head and smiled.
“It could work.”
Elizabeth thought that she had come up with the perfect plan to allow her baby to have the best of both worlds. She followed the light that guided them to the celestial board and they rang the chimes that resounded sounding like harps. They waited as the doors swung open and they followed the light until they stood before the board of celestial elders and saints from all walks of life.
Adrianna the angel of time and memory floated in the air before them. She could see the sadness in Elizabeth’s eyes and she could only imagine the pain that losing her son a second time had caused.
“Elizabeth and Edward so you have completed your mission; Edward has found his one true love and all is well.”
Elizabeth nodded her head. “Yes he is safe and he is sure to be happy now.”
Adrianna nodded her head as the council murmured behind her. “So now it is time for you to chose your destiny. Shall it be here with the angels on high or will you return to earth as mortals to live and die once again?”
Elizabeth looked at her husband and he nodded at her unasked question. “We feel that due to the outcome of the altercation with the Volturi we must stay as we are.”
Adrianna nodded and she could see the hope in Elizabeth’s eyes. “Very well I am happy that you have chosen to stay with us. Now since you have chosen to stay here you still have one wish each so what is the one thing you wish for that will be beneficial to humanity and make the world a better place?”
“Adrianna what we wish will be something only will be able to grant. You are the angel of time and memory and what we are about to ask pertains to both.”
Adrianna bobbed her head. “I see please continue with your request.”
Elizabeth looked at Edward and he smiled encouragingly at his wife. “I fear that Edward will never feel normal with all the memories he has of us as angels, his life as a vampire and no sense of a real family. The Cullen’s are vampires and they will inevitably have to move to prevent the world from seeing them for what they truly are. Edward will never have the family connection we wish for him.”
Adrianna pressed her lips together and raised her forefingers together. “All quite true so what exactly is your wish?”
Elizabeth stepped forward and looked at Adrianna as well as the board. “I would like for you to wipe the memories from everyone involved as if none of it had ever happened. I would like for Edward to remain with the Cullen’s as their adopted child but with the memory that his parents died in a car accident when he was very young. I don’t want him to remember any of his past life it will be as if he lost us when he was a young child and only after he passes from his human life will he remember the truth of his existence. You Adrianna are the only one with power to make my request a reality. I beg you to let a fine mist of rain fall on Forks, The Reservation and Jacksonville. A rainbow will appear so beautiful that all will stand in their yards, the streets or wherever they might be with their hands spread out wide and a sense of peace will cause them to dance in the rain; once the rain hits their upturned face all memory will be gone forever. Edward will have a normal and happy life with Bella, that’s all we’ve ever wanted for our son.”
Adrianna looked from Elizabeth to Edward and she gave brief nod. “Thank you Elizabeth the board has heard your request. Now Edward what shall you ask of us?”
Edward Sr. stepped forward and gazed at the board members and finally rested on Adrianna. “My request is one that might seem a bit odd but necessary. I am asking for you to give Carlisle, Esme, Rose, Emmett, Jasper and Alice the same second chance you gave my son. They have provided my son with the family, love and guidance that he needed throughout his existence. Carlisle is a great physician who wants only to heal and help humans have a better life. Esme is a wonderful mother even to those who aren’t her natural born she is loving, giving and kind she would offer a safe haven to many children in need of not just a place to stay but of a family. Emmett appears to be brute strength but he is bound by love to his family and would do well as a protector for the weak. Rose was given a raw deal all she ever wanted was to be a wife and a mother but I feel she has away with young girls and would help many who have endured unthinkable things to overcome their past and move forward. Jasper has many talents but he would lead his family and his community in the right path to make a difference on a political level. Then last but certainly not least is Alice who is truly a wonderful creature so full of life, strength and goodness. She would be an asset to any field she chose to study maybe even a teacher that would help instill a sense of pride in the deteriorating lives of our youth. I know this is asking for quite a lot but I truly know these people and I feel they were all given a raw deal. They could have been so much more than a cold soulless entity. Please they deserve a second chance.”
Adrianna nodded. “Thank you Edward we will give your request the consideration it deserves. If you will leave us we will confer and summon you when our decision is final.”
Elizabeth and Edward left the room and prayed that the board would make the right decision. Elizabeth prayed for them to remember what it was like to have had children and a family so that they might make the right decision.
Alice made it to the edge of the forest and slowed as Jasper came up behind her. She laughed as he snaked his arm around her waist and pulled her against his chest. She leaned into him and tilted her head back as he dropped a kiss on her cool cheek.
“Not fair Mary Alice Brandon you cheated.”
Alice feigned shock as her eyes grew wide. “Why Jasper Whitlock Hale I do believe I am offended.”
Jasper plucked her up off the ground and swung her around in the forest clearing. “Frankly my darling I don’t give a damn, you my dear are a sneak and a cheater but regardless I love you.”
Alice dropped to her feet and slipped her hand in Jasper’s as they walked to the house. Charlie’s cruiser was parked under the tree but his truck was gone. She continued to the porch and sat down on the porch swing waiting for Jasper to join her.
“Al, he’s not even here. He’s still up in the mountains fishing with Billy Black.”
Alice held up one dainty finger and pointed to the street. Jasper watched as Charlie turned the corner as if Alice had willed him to arrive at that exact moment in time. Charlie pulled into the drive and killed the engine before climbing out of the truck. He smiled at Alice as he grabbed his duffle bag from the back.
“Hey Alice you know Bella’s not here.”
Alice jumped to her feet and followed Charlie to the door. “I know but Edward called and asked me to bring this by.”
Charlie looked at the messenger bag over her shoulder; he pointed at the bag as he unlocked the door. “Ok so what’s in that?”
Jasper grabbed the duffle bag and followed them into the house. “This is a computer with a webcam and tonight Edward wants to talk to you and Renee together.” She held up her hand as Charlie opened his mouth to interrupt. “I don’t know why so don’t ask.” She placed one fingertip to his gapping mouth. “I am going to show you everything you need to know and at six tonight you’ll be ready for your conference call.”
“Alice I know you know why he wants to talk to me and what’s wrong with the phone?”
Alice laughed. “Look don’t kill the messenger all I know is that he asked me to bring this to you and give you a crash course on how to use it.”
Charlie shrugged his shoulders as he sat on the couch beside Alice. Jasper stood by the front window watching the sky as it suddenly seemed a bit darker and he could sense rain. He laughed at the thought after all this was Forks where rain was an everyday way of life. He could hear Alice talking and laughing with Charlie as the sun seemed to suddenly dip behind the clouds and a fine rain began to fall as soft as a feather blowing in the wind. He watched as it fell forming puddles that shimmered reflecting a rainbow of colors. He tilted his head back and saw that the puddle was mirroring the most magnificent rainbow he had ever seen, it seemed to have no beginning and no end as it stretched effortlessly across the sky. The vibrant colors were breathtakingly beautiful and he wanted to get closer to absorb some of the hope and beauty he saw in the simple wonder. He called to Alice to come look.
“Alice, Charlie you guys are gonna want to see this.” He moved from the window to the door and waited for Alice and Charlie. They slowly walked on to the porch almost as if they were in a trance; everyone on the block was making their way outside in the pouring rain. Alice smiled and threw her hands up as she dances around in circles and soon everyone around her was doing the same thing. As Alice stood in the middle of the street she felt a peace unlike any she had ever known; it was as if life suddenly had possibilities again. As she danced with Jasper she felt something inside shift and she forgot everything but the amazing feel of Jasper’s hand in hers.
Edward was sitting on the deck watching as Phil flipped the steaks and closed the lid. He was listening as Phil talked of ERA’s and RBI’s but he was really more concerned about the gray clouds that were filling the once clear sky. He watched in wonder as a light rain began to drum against the grill but it wasn’t the rain that had him mesmerized it was the fact that the fine mist was only falling on them. He heard the sliding glass doors open behind him but he couldn’t look away from the view in front of him. He felt Bella slip her arm around him and he could feel his lips curving into a smile. He was completely taken in by the kaleidoscope of colors that filled the sky as the damp rain fell like manna from heaven. Bella raised their intertwined hands up into the sky and smiled at Edward as the rain continued to fall on only them.
Jake was standing at the boundary line watching the skyline as if he expected something of great importance to appear. He kicked at the rocks and as the dust settled on his shoe he felt the first rain drop hit his face. He watched as the clouds moved in as if by magic and a lazy spring shower feel against he ground. He wasn’t sure why this rain should be of any importance to him, it rained on any given day here but somehow he knew as the soft shades of blue, red, yellow and orange slowly transformed the sky into a work of art that this rain was somehow different. He raised his face to the heavens and let the cool spring rain cascade down his face while he wondered what tomorrow might bring. Somehow Jacob Black knew his life would never be the same.
Carlisle, Esme, Emmett and Rose watched the rain fall from the front window and felt as if the tiny drops were touching their very soul. Rose took Emmett’s hand and pulled him outside into the shimmering rain. She cupped her hands and playfully splashed it on Emmett’s surprised face. He was soon chasing her around the yard as Carlisle and Esme stood with arms held up to the sky as if they had never felt the rain fall before.
Elizabeth and Edward waited as the board silently filed in the room and took their seats. Adrianna stood before them and smiled a lovely smile that gave Elizabeth hope for what was to come next.
“Edward, Elizabeth we have summoned you here to give you our decision. After much debate and discussion we have agreed to grant your requests. As we speak a rain is falling by the morning light all memories of the vampire Cullen’s will be replaced with memories of the human Cullen’s. As for the Cullen’s you will visit them tonight at 11:45 p.m. it will be their choice to accept this second chance. Edward you will explain their options to them and at exactly midnight if they so chose they will drink the potion. A deep sleep will fall upon them and at first light they will awake with the new memories as humans.”
“We thank you so much for this. It will be our great honor to serve alongside you.”
Adrianna smiled and escorted them from the room. She gathered her worn, weathered bag and placed six flasks in bag before handing it to Edward. She then looked at Elizabeth and placed a bag in her hands. “Elizabeth inside this bag are memories that Edward took from Bella when he visited her before the spell. I think she would love to have these photos and mementos back.”
Elizabeth took the bag and hugged Adrianna close for a second. She then nodded her head before following Edward from the room. She took his hand and in the blink of an eye they were watching as the day began to draw to an end.
