Finding fanfic's that have been out a while....

I have come across a few fan fics that I want to check up on, but I don't know if there is a "search engine" or what ever to access past fics. there are well over 19000 submissions .....any suggestions, I have befriended some of the authors in efforts to stay updated, but that isn't always the case...
