I’d be lying if I said wasn’t afraid him. The way his  black eyes glowed in the dark. In the distance I heard a wolf howl. My heart skipped a beat, relief washed through me he was going to save me. The cold wind kissed my face and my relief faded. No! He can’t save me. He’ll die if he tries to rescue me. Those eyes caught my attention again.  They weren’t friendly. They screamed kill her kill her! Every fiber in my body SCREAMED me to run.

Chapter 1:Chapter 1:Funerals, and Grandma Louise

I stood there. I stood in this exact same spot for god knows how long. I didn’t want to move. I was afraid I’d miss everything. “Were so sorry” I heard a small voice say just above a whisper. The lady squeezed my hand gently and kissed me on the cheek. I looked into the light brown eyes of my father’s assistant. Karen that was her name. I attempted what I thought was a smile. “Ashes to ashes dust to dust!” I heard the Priest say. I stood there not paying attention to the people who were attending. I only had eyes for the shiny grey coffin that was now being lowered into the ground. My heart ached for the person who was inside it.
“Dad!” I whispered to myself. I gripped my grandmothers hand firmly. I took a step forward. I frowned at the darkness that was consuming the long rectangular box, they were lowering him to fast, I can’t see the flowers. I let go of grandma’s hand and  walked to the end of the end of the green carpet. I smiled when the flowers were back into sight.
I heard the muffled cries of the women who were being consoled by their husbands. Constantly the men cleared their throat not wanting to shed any tears. I looked behind me and saw grandma pressing a small wrinkled hand to her cheek. I looked around me and noticed the sun for the first time. The sun was out and their were no clouds In the sky. Stupid Florida. It should have been a rainy day. That would match my mood. I noticed some people were standing, others were sitting. Children were sitting in their family members lap. It was a limited funeral service. Mainly close friends, family members were allowed. Everyone was wearing black, some wore dark shades, and freakishly large hats.
The squeaking of the wheels that lowered my fathers coffin screamed inside my head. I moved a little to loosen up my bones, I felt my loose black dress move with me. I winced at the pain that my high heel stilettos were causing me.
“Daddy!” I whispered to myself again, I felt the tears coming again, I brought my hand to my chest. I felt the red rose in my right hand. I looked down at it. I threw it inside the hole and watched as it hit the coffin with a soft thud.
“I’ll always love you dad.” I said this time out loud. Then that’s when the tears flowed down my cheeks.

2 months later…..
I stretched my legs as soon as I felt the pavement under my feet. I moved along with the crowd and walked a bit awkwardly with a little limp. Being on an airplane for more than 5 hours can do that to you.  The sky was grey was and light rain drizzled from the sky. Grandma told me to bring an umbrella. I opened the umbrella and continued to walk the short distance to the inside of the airport.
The airport was a bit small, not many people were occupying it, like I would have thought.  I shook my umbrella so some of the rain could fall off. I closed my umbrella and strolled over to get my luggage.

“Oh look at my baby!” I heard my grandma shriek when I got into hearing distance.  I smiled and closed the distance between us.
“I missed you nana!” I said hugging her. I hadn’t seen her since my father’s…. I shook my head. You’re here for a fresh start Kayliee! I reminded myself.
“Let me get a good look at you.” She said backing up from me. I took in her small frame. She wore a grey knitted sweater and a long flower skirt. Her dark long hair was braided into two and they were sitting on her breast.  Her Cherokee skin looked warm and soft.  I smiled.
“There’s not much to see nana.” I said blushing a bit. Really their wasn’t. I thought my almond colored eyes were to wide. My eyelashes were short and thick. My skin was a deep brown. I was American- Cherokee. My hair had some volume to it. It stopped just a bit past my shoulders. I was 5’6 and wished I was 3 more inches taller. But I wasn’t too mad, at least I could get on rides at the fair. Two things I was proud of though. My body was shaped like an hourglass, I don’t like to brag, but I get a lot of compliments. And second my  teeth! They were pretty much white and even, I sometimes gift self conscious about my two main teeth in front being big and square. I liked the dimple in my right cheek as well. But after that I wasn’t really much a babe magnet. Ha!
“There’s plenty to see Lena!” she said pinching my cheeks. Lena was a nickname she called me. When she was young  her Grandmother would call her that as well. And so did her grandmother. And so on.  “Your turning out very well!” she said clasping her hands together. I smiled again and tilted my head.
“Let’s go home.” she said taking one of the enormous light blue suitcases I was rolling behind me. Home. Its been a while since I could truly call my house at Florida. that Not after Dad- I shook my head again. “Lena come!” I heard my grandma’s small voice say. I quickly followed after her, making my way around the people who were to rude to say excuse me.

After nearly running over a couple that was too slow to move out the way., we were at grandma’s house. I loosened my grip on the car doors handle. My heart was pounding. “Nana! I thought old people drive slow!” I said trying to catch my breath.
She laughed a light laugh. “Not this old lady, I love the speed!” she said, her small hands gripping the steering wheel tighter. I exhaled through my mouth. “You should use the brakes more often!” I said opening the car door. She shook her head and laughed again. Really who grandma you knows drives like a bat outta hell? I walked around the blue Buick and stopped at the trunk. As I waited for grandma to get out the car, I turned my head in the direction of the house.
It was small, the color was the color of the bricks that formed the house. I noticed a small spruce tree on the side of a large window. Their was a small garden in front and on the side of the house.  Very colorful. I thought. Grandma finally made her way to the car and pushed a button on the lock. I reached for the 2 suitcases and heaved them out of the car one by one. I cursed under my breath when the wheel stubbed my open toe slippers.
I noticed the sky getting darker as I made my way up the four steps to the front door. “Welcome home!” My grandma said cheerfully and spreading her arms wide once we were inside.  The house was warm and toasty. I closed my eyes and inhaled the home. It smelled of pinecones, peppermint and a hint of honey. God! I loved that smell. I remember when I was little and I would come and visit grandma. I would unpack everything  I had brought with me and try and get this exact same smell on my clothes. I wanted to have that smell everywhere I went.
“It feels like home.” I whispered low enough for me to hear. I opened my eyes and saw grandma staring at me. “Brings back memories?” she said with a smile. I nodded. The wooden grandfather clock that stood  on my right ticked loudly. I felt the welcome mat under my feet. Just down the hall to the left was the kitchen, and after the kitchen was the large living room. But just a few feet from the front door on the right were the wooden stairs that led to the two bedroom and two baths.
“Thank You nana!” I said dropping my suitcase and hugging her. “I really needed this.” I said feeling the tears well up.
She hugged me and patted my back. “No worries Lena.” I could feel the smile on her brown cheeks.
“Now its almost 10 at night! On a Monday night. You have get some sleep.” I stepped back from her and tilted my head a little. And nodded.
“After all, you do have School tomorrow.” She said with a slight grin.

Chapter 5 : The Pack and Embry

I was in the middle of the hallway. Late again. I turned my schedule at an odd angle trying to figure out where the hell was room 513. I turned my schedule to the right, yeah Kayliee as if that’ll help you, It’s no map! I do have a map! I said slapping myself on my forehead. I pulled the yellow map out of my back pocket and unfolded it. “Okay Auto-Tech is this Way.” I said pointing me behind me. Ha! I was going the wrong way. I Turned and kept looking at the map. Auto-Tech! I loved working on cars, it brought me peace when I didn’t have any calm in the world.
“Cars have feelings too Kayliee.” My dad said, I remembered when I kicked the tire last year of my old car. It still wouldn’t start when me and him added the new parts. “Talk to them Gently, treat them with respect, Care for them as if they were your precious collection of sea shells, and you can bet the car will take care of you.” He smiled and kissed my cheek.

I noticed I froze in the hallway, the map dangled in my hand at my side. Dad. My throat began to close at the thought of him. No Kayliee today’s a new day, don’t think about it. I nodded to myself and began walking forward. I brung the map to my face and kept a steady pace.

Soon I reached a pale white looking building, it was isolated from the school, I could see the garage shop and the cars that were being worked on. The smell of oil filled my nose and smiled.
“I’m coming.” I said to the cars.
I walked inside the building and saw one door. I guess I go to this class.
I took a deep breath and entered the class. I finally got the hang of moving my legs and stepped in. I only had eyes for the teacher, I didn’t dare look at the class.
“May I help you?” A man with grey hair asked me from his metal desk.
“Auto-Tech2?” I asked staring at him. I watched as the teacher get up from his desk and walk over to me.
“Yes.” he said resting a hand on his hip. “Are you lost?”
I frowned at that question, well well well La Push was just like Florida, stupid male teachers, always swore up and down that a female didn’t know how to build a car or how to fix one.
“No, I requested this class.” I said putting a bit of attitude in my words. I handed him my schedule and watched as his eyebrows shot up. He rubbed the back of his neck. Someone whistled in the class and I turned to face the class. Bad move. I stared at the class. All BOYS!! What the hell??? I noticed one pale looking girl in the class, she had piercing an tattoos all over her face and body, she wore boy clothing , im assuming she’s a butch. She even slouched like a dude. I soon realized that there weren’t desk In this class
A/N: Butch: Girl who wants to dress and be like a boy.
Instead there was black top wood tables. Two per table, the students were sitting on stools. My eyes ventured to the middle of the classroom, and there sat five of the most gigantic boys I’d ever seen in my life! I noticed one of them talking to the other across from him.
“Very Well have a set..” I jumped a little, the teacher snapped me out of my sight-seeing. “Mr. Altearia!” The teacher yelled across the room. The boy who was talking automatically snapped his head in our direction.
“Yes?” he said looking not the least bit surprised.
“There’s a sit by him.” The guy raised his hand and shook it a little signaling me to let me know where he was. I Grabbed my schedule and headed in that direction. Shoot! I was looked like I was being fed to some sharks. I soon realized I was In the middle of the huge boys. I pulled out my stool and sat down.
“I’m Quil.” the russet colored boy said , I turned to face him. His mouth opened a bit and I took in his features. His hair was cropped, short, his high cheekbones made him look a little gentle. “Your clear?” He said muttered.
“Huh?” I said
He shook his head slightly and held out his hand, I looked down. His hand was so….. Big! I looked down at my small hand and hesitated on whether I should take it.
“I’m Kay-” I gasped at how incredibly warm his hand was. It was nearly hot “liee” I said finishing my sentence.
“I know.” he said flashing me a smile.
“Excuse me?” I said doing a double take on his smile. God was it pretty.
“It’s a small town, Plus your grandma came by our shop and said how excited she was with you coming here.” I smirked. My heart fluttered at that. Grandma really was something special. A guy laughed who sitting in front of Quil.
“Oh.” I turned my head in his direction.
“Names Paul!” He said nodding at me. His hair was cropped like Quil’s, his skin tone was the same, his eyes were slanted cat-like.
“I’m Kay-” I began, but Paul interrupted me.
“I know who you are.” he said.
“Oh did my grandma brag to you to?” I said tilting my head in a weird position.
“No. I heard you tell Quil.” He smiled at me.
“This.” Quil said bringing my attention back to him, he leaned back a little so I could see the face of a young looking boy who had a wide smile. Damn he looked just like Quil & Paul. “is Seth.”
“Hi Kayliee!” he said with great enthusiasm. I laughed a little at that.
“Hi Seth.” I said.
“This is Jacob!” He said pointing to a boy who was seated next to him. A husky guy, much bigger than the guy named Seth, was slouched in a stool, he looked sort of sad.
“hey.” he muttered and put his head down.
“Bad Love.” Quil whispered to me.
“Shut it!” I herd Jacob say. Whoa, I could barely hear Quil, and yet Jacob somehow heard him. Weird.
“Yo Jared meet Kayliee.” Paul said. Pulling my attention to him. I looked to the guy who next to Paul.
He looked at me the same way he Quil looked at me. Confuse. “Clear?” He shook his head and gave me a small smile “Sup Kayliee” He was a bit smaller than Paul. Only a bit. His hair was cut short like the others, he flashed me a smile and held out a hand.
“Nice to-” I began but his hand was incredibly warm like how Quil’s hand was. What the hell is with the skin? I’m from Florida and I don’t even have hot skin, I thought to myself.
“Don’t forget about Embry!” I heard Seth call out past Quil’s shoulder.
Nice name.
Quil looked passed me “That’s Embry.” he said pointing to the guy who sat right across from me. I turned and saw a guy with his head in the Mechanics book, I looked at his muscles that I found very very impressive. His black v-neck made it impossible to miss them. His hair was a bit shaggy, it stopped passed his eyebrows.
“Yo Embry!” Paul called out. “Meet Kayliee!”
The boy turned his head from his book and met my eyes. We both gasped at the same time. Although I was across from I could tell his body stiffened. I looked into a pair of green eyes, with what looked like brown chocolate chip pieces in his eyes. My heart began to beat loudly. I watched as his mouth slid slightly open, I moved my eyes back to his and his eyes seemed like they were glazed over.
I heard what sounded like “Welcome to the family.” I instantly snapped my head in the direction it came from. Quil’s direction.
“You say something?” I said getting a bit mad at him that he ruined my, what was that moment I just had?
“Oh. Aggh, I said Welcome to La Push.” He said.
“Thanks.” I felt myself breathing hard. What the hell? Had I really been holding my breathe the entire time I was looking at Embry….
I turned my head back in his direction he was looking back in the mechanics books, he didn’t seem like he was reading. More like staring. My eyes roamed his body, bit my bottom lip trying not to let out a screech at his muscles, I slowly took in each dent, line, and curve that made up his guns. I slid my eyes down to his stomach, where an 2,4,6,8! Pack sat. Damn I wandered what his diet was, he probably was one of those guys who stayed at the gym 24/7. But then again Paul, Jared, Quil, and Jacob all looked like Embry, did they all hang out a gym?
“So you own a shop?” I said deciding not to be a complete girl and drool over Embry. Quil who was looking at Embry strangely quickly looked down at me.
“No, A friend of mine Sam does. I work there from time to time. We all do.” He said gesturing to the rest of the boys.
“Oh. Cool! Are you guys related?” I said placing my elbow on the table and placing my chin in my hand. I watched Quil’s face, he seemed to be having trouble answering this question.
“You can say something like that.” Paul said leaning his back on our table.
“Weird, cause all you guys look alike.”
“Yeah we get that a lot.” Seth pitched in from Quil’s side. I looked at Jacob and caught a glimpse of his face. His mouth was pulled down at the corners. In between his eyebrows made a V. Our eyes made a quick contact and he turned from me, now facing the wall. His eyes were so sad. Filled with a pain, that I knew all to well. I wander if someone close to him died too. The way he was looking mad him look like a sad puppy.
“So Kayliee where are you from?” Paul asked.
I looked up front at the teacher, he was reading some type of sports magazine. I guess the class had a free day. Sweet!
“Florida.” still with my chin in my hand I turned my head to face Paul.
“Damn! Whatcha doing way up here?” Quil asked.
“Family Ties.” I blurted out.
“Are you sure your not some kind of fugitive from Mexico?” Seth asked with a smirk, again I laughed at his enthusiasm. Weird these guys were almost easy to talk to. Almost.
“Ha! She likes me more!” Seth bragged.
“She does not!” Jared said slapping him across the head.
“I made her laugh Twice” he said holding up the number 2 on his fingers.
“Whatever you damn pest.” Paul grumbled.
I laughed a light laugh this time. Maybe La Push was where I needed to be.
The bell ranged and I groaned. I didn’t want to leave the class.
I stood up and reached for my bag. I was about to step out in the aisle when Someone rudely cut me off. Embry. I stumble back into Quil’s chest. Oh-oh. I felt his body temperature through his printed T and it was the same temp. as his hands.
“Whoa! You alright?” he asked balancing me with his hands on either side of my arms.
“Yeah, just lost my balance.”
“Yo! Embry you can say sorry!” Quil said peering over heads that filed out of the room. I watched as Embry stuck up his middle finger behind him and walked out the door.
“Hey Kayliee!” I heard a familiar voice say. I turned my head to the left and saw those bright blue eyes again. Chad.
“Oh! Hi Chad. I didn’t see you.” I said a bit puzzled at where he‘d come from. I heard something rumble and realized I was still on Quil’s chest. Quickly I moved up and stepped into the aisle. I saw Embry narrow his eyes at Chad. Be nice. I thought
“I’ve been in the School’s garage most of the class period, trying make up my grade.” He said walking up to me.
“Explains a lot.” I said and turned back to Quil. “Bye!” I said waving to him and walking out the room with Chad at my side. Quil looked pretty …..
