The Twilight Saga

Chapter Seven:

Collin's POV

The boys from her group left for the Rez girls. Leaving the girls in their group alone. I was searching for her, then I spotted her. Right next to her friend, Katy. She was beautiful, as usual. Her strapless dress made her seem like a goddes. I walked straight up to her, not caring that her friends gave her a look that seemed to say: "Told you so".

As I walked to her, she smiled and I smiled back at her. It seemed that no one else was there. Finally, I reached her and we just looked at each other for a second. Not caring about the whispers and giggles that the girls were giving us.

"Hey, Brady," Jacob laughed.

I knew he was upset, but I didn't care. I was here with Lauren.

"Want to go for a walk?" I asked her, motioning to the forest.

"After you," she smiled.

I started to walk and she followed me. We didn't get very far before we heard Brady's howl. She gasped and sped up to me, clutching my arm.

"It's all right," I laughed patting her hand that was digging into my skin.

"Sorry." She let go of my arm, and I suddenly felt cold, lonely. I resisted the urge to reach out and bring her in for a hug.

"That's OK."

"That brings up something that I want to talk to you about," she started. I knew that this was going to be a hard conversation. "What do you Quileute boys know about those wolves?"

"What wolves?" I looked at her with a forced smile.

"You know what I'm talking about. The huge ones? The ones that are so tall that they could take down a lion if they wanted to? You know? Those wolves?"

I shook my head slowly. "Nope. Can't say I do."

She sighed in frustration. "I know you do. I'll prove it," she mumbled.

"To who?" I chuckled.

We were silent for a while. Just litening to the animals scurry about, our footsteps, our breathing, each other's heartbeat. It was very peaceful.

Some how, our hands had moved towards each other, like magnets. At first, only our fingers were touching. Like holding our fingertips only. I waited for her to be comfortable to hold my hand the rest of the way. I was content by just being near her, but holding her hand, I was in pure bliss. Then, she locked her hand around mine. She came closer, held my forearm and leaned her head on my shoulder. I smiled.

"What do you want to talk about?" She broke the silence. She seemed to be avoiding something.

"Hmm, what do you want to talk about?" I asked her in return.

"Hmmmmmm..." She put her delicate finger on her chin as she thought. "Food."

"Food?" I laughed.

"Yeah. I mean, everyone loves food, right? I know I do. And by y'all's size, I'm guessing you like to eat, too. Maybe a little more then most."

"Guess you're right," I chuckled. "You're very observant."

"My friends would diagree. Plus, it's kinda hard to miss the size of y'all."

"When did you start saying 'y'all'?"

"I don't know. When you live in a small town in Louisianna like I did, it kinda sticks to you," she shrugged.

I chuckled.

She sighed. "I'm sorry you had to see that today. You know? My episode?" So that was what she was avoiding.

"That's OK. I was just scared for you. I never had to deal with something like that before."

"Yeah, nobody other then my friends, Kevin and my dad really has to deal with it. I'm scared for me, too. It sounds selfish, i know, but-"

"That's not selfish at all. It's a very scary thing to deal with, for anyone," I cut her off.

She sighed again. "Did you know that I could die from this? If I have an episode and it wasn't being taken care of right away, I could die." Why was she telling me this? I hated to even think about her closing her eyes and never opening them again. Her beautiful hazel eyes, gone forever. "It's very scary. That's how my mom died."

"Yeah. Kevin and I were at school, dad was at work and mom was at home alone. She was pregnant, so she took the days off untill her birthing. She was nine months, about to burst." She smiled at the memory of her loved mother. "She needed something from upstairs, so she went up. That morning, she forgot to take her pill. She was looking for those as well. As she was going up, her water broke, she started to breathe heavily, worried about calling one of us, and had an episode all at the same time. Put a lot of stress on her. She had a seizure and died right on the spot, 'cause it wasn't taken care of right away. The baby died, too. Guess who found her?" She asked as her voice broke and she started to cry. "I did. A year before that, I was diagnosed with epilepsy. I was and am so scared."

We had completely stopped walking and now she was crying, hard. I brought her in for a hug, I held her tight.

"Shh," I whispered. "I won't let anything happen to you," I promised. We were like that for a while. Me holding her while she cried and she was burying her head in my chest and soaking my shirt. "Don't you think we should walk back to the others?" I asked her in a hushed tone after a while.

"Yeah." Her voice was hoarse. She pulled back and sniffled. She laughed. "Sorry."

"Why do you keep saying that?" Then she motioned to my soaked shirt. "Oh, that? It's fine."

"Thank you, Collin." I liked the way my name sounded when it came out of her mouth. Sweet, almost. She leaned in and around to give me a peck on the cheek. She turned back and smiled at me. I smiled back like a fool. She giggled.

I reached up and whipped the remaining tears on her cheeks. She smiled again, and so did I.

"C'mon," I headed back the direction we had come. She came up beside me and pulled my arm around her shoulders.

"Hope you don't mind, but I'm knida getting cold. And you're very warm."

"I don't mind at all," I smiled down at her and she smiled back.

We walked in quiet the rest of the way to the bonfire. We were about to break through the forest trees when we heard Paul's booming voice.

"All right you love birds, make out time in the forest is over with," he laughed as well as a few others.

We looked at each other and blushed. I removed my arm, even though I didn't want to. We laughed silently.

As we were about to step out of the forest, I felt a sudden pain in my left arm. Then it happened on my right leg, my side, my neck... What was happening? It hurt a lot. It felt like I was burning from the inside out. Every time another attack of pain happened, a wind followed.

The pain became too much to handle. I fell to my knees and let out a blood curdling scream before I hit my face on the dirt and blacked out.
