Chapter 1 (New Moon, Chapter 9: Third Wheel, page 219-224, just after Jacob left home from the movies)
I leaned against the kitchen counter, my hand inches from the phone, and tried to wait patiently. thought of the strange look on Jacob's face before he drove away, and my fingers started drumming against the counter. I should have insisted on driving him home.

I watched the clock as the minutes ticked by. Ten. Fifteen. Even when I was driving, it only took fifteen minutes, and Jacob drove faster than I did. Eighteen minutes. I picked up the phone and dialed.

It rang and rang. Maybe Billy was asleep. Maybe I'd dialed wrong. I tried again.

On the eighth ring, just as I was about to hang up, Billy answered.

"Hello?" he asked. His voice was wary, like he was expecting bad news.

"Billy, it's me, Bella- did Jake make it home yet? He left here about twenty minutes ago."

"He's here," Billy said tonelessly.

"He was supposed to call me." I was a little irritated. "He was getting sick when he left, and I was worried."

"He was... too sick to call. He's not feeling well right now." Billy sounded distant. I realized he must want to be with Jacob.

"Let me know if you need any help," I offered. "I could come down." I thought of Billy, stuck in his chair, and Jake fending for himself...

"No, no," Billy said quickly. "We're fine. Stay at your place."

The way he said it was almost rude.

"Okay," I agreed

"Bye, Bella."

The line disconnected.

"Bye," I muttered.

Well, at least he'd made it home. Oddly, I didn't feel less worried. I trudged up the stairs, fretting. Maybe I would go down before work tomorrow to check on him. I could take soup- we had to have a can of Campbell's around here somewhere.

I realized all such plans were canceled when I woke up early- my clock said for thirty- and sprinted to the bathroom. Charlie found me there a half hour later, lying on the floor, my cheek pressed against the cold edge of the bathtub.

He looked at me for a long moment.

"Stomach flu," he finally said.

"Yes," I moaned.

"You need something?" he asked.

"Call the Newtons for me, please," I instructed hoarsely. "Tell them I have what Mike had, and that I can't make it in today. Tell them I'm sorry."

"Sure, no problem," Charlie assured me.

I spent the rest of the day on the bathroom floor, sleeping for a few hours with my head on a crumpled up towel. Charlie claimed that he had to work, but I suspected that he just wanted access to a bathroom. He left a glass of water on the floor beside me to keep me hydrated.

It woke me up when he came back home. I could see that it was dark in my room- after nightfall. He clumped up the stairs to check on me.

"Still alive?"

"Sort of," I said.

"Do you want anything?"

"No, thanks."

He hesitated, clearly out of his element. "Okay, then," he said, then he went back down to the kitchen. I heard the phone ring a few minutes later. charlie spoke to someone in a low voice for a moment, and then hung up.

"Mike feels better," he called up to me.

Well, that was encouraging. He'd only gotten sick eight hours or so before me. Eight more hours. The thought made my stomach turn, and I pulled myself up to lean over the toilet.

I fell asleep on the towel again, but when I woke up I was in my bed and it was light outside my window. I didn't remember  moving; Charlie must have carried me to my room- he'd also put the glass of water on my bedside table. I felt parched. I chugged it down, thought it tasted funny from sitting stagnant all night.

I got up slowly, trying not to trigger the nausea again. I was weak, and my mouth tasted horrible, but my stomach felt fine. I looked at my clock.

My twenty-four hours were up.

I didn't push it, eating nothing but saltine crackers for breakfast. Charlie looked relieved to see me recovered.

As soon as I was sure that I wasn't going to have to spend the day on the bathroom floor again, I called Jacob.

Jacob was the one who answered, but when I heard his greeting I knew he wasn't over it.

"Hello?" His voice was broken, cracking.

"Oh, Jake," I groaned sympathetically. "You sound horrible."

"I feel horrible," he whispered.

"I'm so sorry I made you go out with me. This sucks."

"I'm glad I went." His voice was still a whisper. "Don't blame yourself. This isn't your fault."

"You'll get better soon," I promised. "I woke up this morning and I was fine."

"You were sick?" he asked dully.

"Yes, I got it, too. But I'm fine now."

"That's good." His voice was dead.

"So you'll probably be better in a few hours," I encouraged.

I could barely hear his answer. "I don't think I have the same thing you did."

"Don't you have the stomach flu?" I asked, confused.

"No. This is something else."

"What's wrong with you?"

"Everything," he whispered. "Every part of me hurts."

The pain in his voice was nearly tangible.

"What can I do, Jake? What can I bring you?"

"Nothing. You can't come here." He was abrupt. It reminded me of Billy the other night.

"I've already been exposed to whatever you have," I pointed out.

He ignored me. "I'll call you when I can. I'll let you know when you can come down again."

"I've got to go," he said with sudden urgency.

"Call me when you feel better."

"Right," he agreed, and his voice had a strange, bitter edge.

He was silent for a moment. I was waiting for him to say goodbye, but he waited too.

"I'll see you soon," I finally said.

"Wait for me to call," he said again.

"Okay... Bye, Jacob."

"Bella," he whispered my name, and then hung up the phone.

***End of New Moon Excerpt***

The rest of the day, I tried to keep myself busy with chores and homework. I even called the Newtons to tell them I would be at work tomorrow, just because I couldn't find anything else to do.

But, even though I tried my hardest to keep myself busy, I couldn't stop thinking about Jacob. He sounded so sick on the phone and it hurt me to hear him in pain when there was nothing I could do about it. I wasn't allowed to come over until Jacob's call, but I could help but wonder if I should go down there.

As the day dragged on, it was finally nightfall and I decided to hit the sack early. As I climbed into the bed, I still thought about Jake. I needed to see him soon, to make sure he was okay, to see if he needed anything at all. I decided to go check on him tomorrow, at least call to see if he needed anything.

I heard a tap on my window. I completely froze and didn't dare look out my window. Could it be?

I slowly turned and looked at my window. My eyes widened when I saw a pebble tap my window once again. I pursed my lips. If he was here, he would have opened the window without any hesitation. I got up slowly and walked over to my window. Another pebble tapped against my window, just a little bit louder. I opened my window and looked down at the huge dark figure. At first, I couldn't make out what it was. Then, I saw it wave and recognized it at once.

what is taking you so long write already Im dieing here what if I die tommorow and dont finish the story i will haunt you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all, we're experiencing some technical difficulties and the chapter won't be up until a while. Second, Gianna's writing the next chapter, and her computer isn't working, so she won't be able to write it until it's fixed. Thirdly, we're asking that you could be patient for the next chapter, which I'm sure will be amazing.

*** This chapter was written by my brilliant co writer who had to go through some internet problems, but still made an amazing chapter, Gianna Black :) Sorry for the late chapter, we were experiencing some technical difficulties, but we're up and running now, so yay! Enjoy the chapter :) ***

Chapter 12

Jake’s POV

I stayed at Bella’s for dinner; Charlie had insisted. Afterward, we watched the game together, cheering when our team scored and cursing them out when they didn’t. Billy joined us about halfway through, and with the two “old men” together and occupied, I was free to sneak away to see Bella.

“So, it seems like Charlie approves of you,” she said. I couldn’t help but smile, knowing that her father was okay with us being together. I wouldn’t have liked sneaking around behind his back.

“Well, can you blame him?” I joked. She laughed and gently punched me in the arm.

“Someone’s cocky. Must be the new, buff werewolf Jacob.”

“Wait, what was that?” I asked, teasing her. “Did you call me buff?”

She blushed and looked down at her feet. I tilted her chin up, making her look at me. “Don’t be embarrassed. It is the truth.”

She laughed again, and I couldn’t resist kissing her. I pressed my lips to hers for a sweet, long kiss. I didn’t want to go too far with both our dads just downstairs. It didn’t seem right.

When I pulled away, she said, “So, we’re, like, official now?”

“What do you mean?” I asked, confused.

She smiled at me and started playing with my hands as we sat on her bed. “Well, can I tell my friends? So far the only people who know are our dads. I didn’t even tell my mom yet.”

“Oh, um, well some other people know, too.” How could I be so stupid? Of course Bella didn’t know that the pack knew about us. After all, she was always thinking of me as just a human, just Jake.

“The pack,” I half whispered. I didn’t know what her reaction would be—I hoped she wouldn’t be mad—but she just laughed, again. And I realized that it was becoming one of my favorite sounds in the world.

“I should’ve known.” She said. “So this means I’m free to tell my friends then? Because it’s been getting harder and harder to keep it a secret from everyone.”

“You can tell whoever you want,” I assured her. She gave me another kiss, but this one went farther than our last one. My fingers were tangled in her hair, and one of her hands was trailing up and down my arm, leaving goosebumps. Something didn’t feel right, though, and I pulled away from her, leaving both of us gasping in the break of the heat of the moment.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, breathless.

I didn’t answer her right away. I walked over to her window and peered out. If it weren’t for my werewolf night vision, I would have never been able to see. I scanned the backyard a few times before assuring myself that there was nothing there.

“I just felt like…like there was someone watching us.”

Bella’s POV

I called up Jess as soon as Jacob left. I knew she would be dying, but I had to do what I had to do.

“Hey, Bella. What’s up?”

“Hi, Jess. We have to talk tomorrow. And Angela, too. I have something to tell you guys.”

“Is it big?” she asked.

“Really big. You’re going to freak out.”

“Ahh! Can you tell me now? I have to know now!”

“Nah, I think I’ll save it for tomorrow. See you in school.”

“Oh my gosh, Bella. That’s so frustrating! Fine, but as soon as I see you tomorrow, you better spill!”

I giggled. “Okay.”

Apparently Jess called Angela after our little chat and told her everything that I had said, which was nothing. As soon as I opened my locker the next day, they both came almost running toward me, pushing some underclassman out of the way.

“What is it? You have to tell us now!” Jess said.

“Alright, but I don’t know how you guys are gonna take it.”

“What is it?!”

I hesitated before saying, “I’m dating Jacob Black.”

Huge grins filled both their faces and they started jumping up and down. Jessica was squealing. She was reminding of Alice with this behavior.

“I knew it, Bella!” Angela shrieked.

“Yeah, you should have listened to us! We obviously know what we’re talking about,” Jess added.

I almost rolled my eyes, but I knew they were right.

For the rest of the day, they kept badgering me with questions about him, and about us. When did he ask you out? Did you tell anyone else? Did you kiss yet? How far did you go? (That one was Jess’, of course.)

When they asked me how serious we were, I almost slipped. Telling them that he’s a werewolf who Imprinted on me, therefore making us soul mates forever definitely wouldn’t have ended well. So I just told them that we were probably going to be very serious in the future.

They both seemed genuinely happy for me, but I couldn’t help but notice a little jealousy lurking in Jess’ eyes.

I told Jake everything they had said when I went to his house later that day. He laughed with me and said that he’s glad my friends are happy for me. Before I left his house, he told me that he wanted to take me on a real date. Our first date.

I said yes without a second thought. He seemed pleased at that, and we made plans to meet up on Friday night. He wouldn’t tell me where we were going, but that was fine with me. Anywhere would be great as long as we were together.

I called my mom that night to tell her everything that had happened. Her reaction was similar to Jessica and Angela’s, except I don’t think she jumped up and down; I would hope not, at least. She congratulated me and I could hear in her voice that she was truly happy. Her feeling was contagious, even over the phone, and I found myself smiling wide. She demanded all the details, and I found myself telling her everything—except the part about him being a werewolf. And me being his Imprint.

His Imprint.

It was still confusing. I didn’t quite understand the whole concept, but then again, I didn’t have to. We were together and that’s all that mattered. Nothing else mattered, except him.

I heard the door knock and walked over to open it. I had no idea who it was, since Charlie was still at work.

I opened the door and gasped.
