“Julia! Get your little butt down here, BEFORE you hurt yourself!” my best friend, Rebecca said. But, only if you wanna die, it’s Bex, or Becky. She even allowed Becca. We were in our hideout. Really it’s just some abandoned apartments. No one has lived in them for more than ten years. When we were littler, the apartments would be boats, or castles. Now, it’s the place we go to get away. To get away from life.
“Bex, relax!” I called over my shoulder. I was climbing up the wall. I was kinda tomboyish. She was too, but more girly than me.
“Don’t make me call you by your full name!” she threatened. I hated my name, and hated it when she, or my parents did that.
“Nope” I said, making the ‘p’ pop.
“Juliet Isabella Alexander Marie Paxton! Get. Down. Here!”
“Oh no you didn’t!” I yelled. “Rebecca Annabella Tylers!”
“Come on Jules! Please, before you get hurt!” she begged.
“What’s she gotten herself into this time?” Devin’s voice said behind me. Devin was Becca’s boyfriend. He was like a big brother to me.
“Climbing a huge wall” she said. I looked over my should and saw them hugging, but both their eyes were on me.
“Hey Devin!” I called.
“Hey Jules” he smiled. He was a good friend, and I loved him. But just as a brother.
“Come on, please get down!” Becca yelled again.
“Fine. Hey Devin, do you remember that gymnastics class we all took?” I asked while I stopped climbing.
“Well, I’m gonna let go, and your gonna catch me. Okay?”
“If you drop her, your paying for the hospital bills” Becca said.
“Oh, your so nice!” I said using heavy sarcasm. One of the bricks scraped along my wrist. I took a closer look at the sandy rusty-red colored bricks. They weren’t rusted, which was good. They were laughing, and so was I. “Okay Devin. I’m letting go!” I said. I didn’t look. I just let go of the bricks with my hands, and feet and felt the wind whistle threw my hair. In 18 seconds I was in Devin’s arms, and I rubbed my wrist as he set me down.
“Thanks” I grinned, looking up. I hadn’t realized how far up that wall was. Becca grabbed my hand and turned it over.
“Told you, you’d hurt yourself!” She exclaimed. I looked at the cut. It was bleeding. Not bad. Not bad at all.
I sighed. “It’s not that bad.” Then I looked at my watch. 9:10. “I am suppose to be home in five minutes! I gotta go!”
“But you live all the way on base!” Becca said. “That’s 25 minutes away. Even if you run, you’ll never make it.”
“Ya, I know. Bye!” I said taking off. I heard Devin say, “Good luck!” and Becca say, “I’ll see you tomorrow if your not dead!”
“Thank you! Your very re-assuring!” I called over my shoulder.
I was already 27 minutes late when I walked in the door.
“I’m home mom!” I shouted.
“Juliet! Where have you been?” she shouted.
“Out with Becca.” I said looking down. Then I looked up. My mom’s face was happy again.
“Oh, okay” She smiled brightly. “Just don’t let it happen, again. Okay?”
I nodded. Something was up. Whenever I had missed curfew, I was grounded for the minim of four weeks.
“There is Blueberry pie in the kitchen for you” my mom said going to her and my dad’s room.
Blueberry pie? No punishment? What did they do now? Last time this stuff happened, two of m brothers, and one sister had moved to Forks, Washington with my Aunt Sally. Well, to the little village of La Push. That’s where my Dad is from. My mom and I are the only ones in our family to have white skin, red/auburn hair and blue eyes. Everyone else has darker skin, with brown hair, brown eyes.
And, another time I was treated like this was when my other two sisters and brother moved to California. And when my cat died.
Suddenly I wasn’t hungry. Maybe it was something like, my brother was coming back. Nothing bad. And maybe it was worse. I went to the second floor to my room. I got ready for bed. As I was getting into bed, I got a text from Becca.
go to chatzys! turn on your video camera 2. D will be on.
Chatzys was a website just for chatting. You can even make your own chat rooms, and all.
I got up and retrieved my laptop and webcam. Then I sat back in bed and turned on my computer, and logging on to Chatzys.com. I hooked up the webcam, and went to invites. I had been invited to, “Becca’s chat room. All can come, but only if I say it‘s okay”
I laughed a little at her title. Then accepted the invite. Two little boxes appeared on my screen. Then Becca, who had just hooked up her webcam, appeared, soon followed by Devin.
“Hey guys!” I said.
“Hey” Becca said.
“Hi-Ya” Devin said too.
“So…” Becca started. “How long you in the slammer?”
“None time at all. Which is weird ’cause I was half-an-hour late.”
“Wow. You NEVER get off that easy. What up?” Devin asked.
“I don’t know. But I think that my brother is just coming back. That’s all.”
“Oh, that’s not too bad” Becca said, looking relived.
At the same time Devin sighed, relived also. “That’s good.”
“Ya I know” I said. Then I heard my door open, reviling my mothers face.
“It’s an hour past bedtime. Three more minutes. I love you and goodnight” She said closing the door. I looked back to the screen, where my friends faces waited worried.
“See what I mean?”
“Yea. It’s weird” Brandy said.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
“Hey, Addie texted me. She is logging on. Bex, invite her”
Addie, Becca, and Devin were my best friends ever.
Then Addie’s face was on screen.
“Hey all people I know!” she said. Becca and I giggled.
“Hello!” I said.
“Juliet! Bed! Now!” my mom yelled.
“Gesh. You would think that because today was the last day of school I would be able to stay up later. Well, gotta go. Devin, and Bex, maybe you can fill Addie in. Bye!”
I pressed the power off button on my computer, and then put it on the desk. As I got into bed, I knocked over a family photo. My parents, brothers, and sisters were in it. Even my cousin Jacob Black. He lived in La Push, Washington.
I sighed. Then I turned over and went to bed.
“Julia! Wake up, we need to talk to you!” My dad said.
“Coming!” I yelled into my pillow.
Five minutes later, I stumbled down the stairs, dressed for the day.
“Sweetie” my mom started when I entered their office, “We’ve got news. We are moving!” she smiled.
“Oh, okay. Who am I gonna live with?” I asked. After seeing their faces I asked, “When you say ‘we’ you mean….”
“All of us. Your mom, me and you.”
I felt the blood drain from my face. I stood there for a second. Then I turned around, and ran to Becca’s house.
“Julia! Come back!” My mom yelled as I ran full speed, out the door.
Not crying yet, I knocked on Becca’s door. Her mom answered.
“Oh, hi sweetie! How are you?” Her mom asked.
“Good. Is Becca here?”
“Oh, no. Her and Addie are at Devin’s. Sorry”
“It’s okay” I said turning around.
Then I ran to Devin’s.
He answered the door, with Bex, and Addie behind him. I ran into his arms, that he held up because he saw me crying.
“What’s wrong Jules?” Bex asked as they all hugged me.
“I-I-I’m m-m-mov-ving” I sobbed.
“What?!” they all gasped.
I nodded weakly as Bex led me to the sofa. I laid in her arms for awhile.
Then Addie asked, “When?”
“I don’t know. I sorta ran out after they told me. I don’t even know where to” I said sitting up.
“Well, you know you have to go face your parents now” Becca said.
Then the phone rang, and Devin got up to answer it.
“Hello?……Devin….Yea…..Okay, b-bye” he hung up.
“Jules, your parents want you home” He said coming back into the living room.
“Okay. I’ll see you all later” I sighed getting up.
“We all are coming over tomorrow. No matter what!” Becca said, and Addie and Devin nodded.
“Okay, bye” I said walking out the door.
As I walked in the door, half-an-hour later, my mother and father were waiting there. Yup that is right. No longer Mom and Dad. Now it’s Mother and Father.
“What?” I asked, not crying anymore.
“We know that you are upset. But you can’t run like that. We are leaving the day after tomorrow. You need to go pack” My father said.
“Okay” I sighed, stomping up the stairs. I saw that there were boxes everywhere. I picked up a box, and packed my books, notebooks, pens, pencils, markers, crayons, (Yes, I still use crayons!) and everything else from my desk. I folded the box, then taped it. After that, I wrote on the top of the box, in permanent maker,
Moving to my bookshelfs, closets, drawers, and dresser, I packed everything that needed to go. I pushed the boxes one-by-one into the hallway.
Going back into my room, I packed my suitcase, with the things I had left out. Leaving three more outfits, plus shorts and a tank top (for my pj’s) and things like my laptop, ipod touch and my cell phones out on my dresser.
I looked at my watch and saw it was already past ten. I had woken up at nine, and started packing at nine-thirty. Wow. Time flies when your packing for your doom.
I decided to call Becca.
Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring.
‘Hey this is Becca’s phone. If your listening to this, I’m probably out with Julia, Devin or Addie. I call you back later’
Her voice box answered. I tried Devin, and Addie without success.
I sighed and realized how hungry I was. Still not wanting to see my parents, I tip-toed down the stairs, and I into the kitchen. I made a sandwich and got some Dr. Pepper. My favorite. Going back into my room, I thought about my friends. Where were they? They ALWAYS answered there cells. Well, tomorrow I’m gonna spend the WHOLE day with them. That’s why I had packed today. So I can be with them.
I finished my sandwich, and drained my soda. Laying down, in my pajamas. I fell asleep instantly.
Thank you so much!!! Hmmm........i dunno.....never occured to me.... When the stories all got deleted i was worried you hadn't saved your story to your computer!! But thank God you did....i'll go check it out!!!!!
*The Next Morning*
I woke up, at SIX O’ TWO, to pebbles being thrown at my window. I got up and saw my three best friends standing there.
Opening the window, I said “My Romeo better be down there!”
We all laughed.
“Sorry Juliet! This is my man!” Becca said. We laughed again.
“You ready to spend the day with us?” Addie asked.
“You bet. I’ll be out in five minutes!” I said, and they nodded. I shut my window, and got dressed. Then brushed my teeth. Running down stairs, I got paper and a pen, leaving my parents a note, on my dad’s desk.
I grabbed the box of Lucky Charms, and ran out the door, saying to my friends, “I got breakfast!”
They smiled. We all loved Lucky Charms.
“Where we going?” I asked, as they all grabbed a handful of Lucky Charms.
“The hideout. We need pictures” Becca said as she held out her shinny blue ipod, that takes videos and pictures. Devin held out a blue camera.
“Okay” I said. Devin took a picture of me, with the cereal box.
Becca started recording.
“This is Juliet Isa-”
“Don’t go there, Rebecca” I smiled into the camera.
“Fine. This is Julia, Addie, Devin and Becca, ME! I‘m Becca!” She said pointing the camera to each person. I giggled.
“Now, all, starting with Devin, tell me something about yourself.
“Uh..” Devin started, “I…um….hmm…I like chocolate milk!” He shouted, and I laughed.
“Uh, okay then? Addie, your up” Becca said.
“Is there a point to all this?” I asked.
“Shush! My ipod, my video!” She pointed the camera to everyone who was talking.
“Hey! No stealy my spotlight!” Addie said. “I. Hate. Math.” She said each word like a sentence. We all laughed.
“Your turn!” She said to me.
“I’m gonna get to the top of that wall!” I yelled.
“Fine. My turn!” she pointed the camera to herself. “I’m gonna kick her butt if she dose!”
I laughed, and pulled my long auburn red hair into a ponytail.
Becca’s green eyes were sparkling. Devin’s brown eyes were happy, and Addie’s hazel eyes overjoyed. They planned this. They planned this so I would be happy, and forget about tomorrow. Still, I was happy. Really happy.
**At The Hideout**
“More pictures!” Addie yelled, jumping in and surprising me with the flash of the camera.
“You know,” I said, tying my sweater around my waist, “I get a copy of all these pictures”
“Sure ya do!” Addie said.
“Okay, who gave her the Mt. Dew?” I asked looking to Becca, who pointed to Devin.
I shook my head, and turned to the wall.
“Ya gonna get this on video Becca?” I asked putting my hands on the wall.
“Already ahead of you” She said as I started to climb. It got WAY to quite.
So I said, “And the crowd goes wild as Julia starts to climb.”
It was still quite, so I looked over my shoulder and said, “Uh, crowd?”
“Oh, that’s us” Devin said, as Becca and Addie started chanting “Julia! Julia!”
I laughed at my friends.
**a good 20 minutes later**
“I had no idea that this wall was so long!” I called down as I sat on the top of the wall. “Who is next?”
They all shook their heads.
“No one! You are coming down here!” Becca yelled.
After a couple minutes of the whole ‘yes and no’ thing I decided to get down. I climbed half way down, and say Becca was recording again.
“Ready Devin?” I asked.
“Yup” he called up.
Like last night, I closed my eyes, and just let go. Then I was in Devin’s arms, and then on the ground.
“That was fun” I giggled.
“Here” Addie said, “Get together. I want a group picture”
She put a timer on and set the camera on the ledge.
“Ready?” I asked, and everyone nodded.
I was standing between Devin and Becca, and Addie was behind me. I put my arms around Becca and Devin, and Addie wrapped hers around my neck.
Click the camera went off.
We spent the rest of the day talking, taking pictures, and hanging around town.
**At 11:19 pm**
Addie, Becca, Devin and I snuck into my house. I was one hour and nineteen minutes late. Mom and dad were no where in sight, but a jillion boxes packed. I sighed, but moved to the kitchen. Despite my best effort, my footsteps were extremely loud, and my clumsy side had me tripping every few steps. Thank God for friends who know when I’m about to fall.
“Julia!” My mom yelled when she saw me.
“Run!” Addie squealed and my three friends ran up the stairs to my room.
“Oh, thanks!” I yelled after them.
“No problem!” Devin yelled. Then I heard a muffled thwack! followed by Devin’s soft “Ow!”
“Julia! Where have you been?” My mom asked/yelled.
“Where is out?”
“I’ve been spending the last day of my life, with the only people left that I care about! The only people that care about ME!” I shrieked. I noticed that it had gone quite upstairs.
“We care about you! And the least you could’ve done is tell us!” She yelled back.
“I left a note on dad’s desk!” I yelled and turned to walk upstairs. “And by the way, they are all staying the night!”
As I walked into my room, I was surrounded with hugs.
“We are gonna miss you” was all I heard. I refused to cry. That wouldn’t help anything.
“I know. But, guess what” I said smiling.
“What?” Becca asked softly.
“We’ve got a camera, and a video camera. We can still have fun. Now cheer your butts up.” I smiled again.
The response was a camera flash.
“When I get to the new house, these pictures are gonna be all over my walls.” As I thought about moving, I got nervous. Butterflies in my stomach and all.
“What’s wrong Julia?” Addie asked.
“I….What if I don’t make new friends? What if no one likes me?”
“Oh honey” Becca said, “Your cousin is there right? One friend down!”
As the night passed, we took pictures and videos. We laughed, and talked. We shared old secrets, and memories. At around 1:00 am I fell asleep, sitting between Becca and Devin, with Addie at my feet.
“Julia! Julia, Becca, Addie, Devin! Up, up, up!” My mom shouted.
I groaned, and opened my eyes. I smiled as I took in the scene. My head was on Devin’s stomach, and my feet were on Addie’s lap. Devin’s head was on Becca’s stomach and Becca’s head was on Addie’s tummy. Becca was holding my ankle.
“Hey people I know, time to wake up” I half yelled, as my mom came in again.
“Guys up! It’s ten-thirty and the trucks are almost packed. We just need your bed” My mom said.
I looked around my room, as my friends started to wake up. Everything was gone, except the things I put on my dresser, which were on the floor, and my bed.
All the sudden, Devin shot up, and rolled off the bed. His yelp woke everyone else up.
“Devin, are you okay?” I asked giggling.
“Yea” he said rubbing his head.
“Where’d all your stuff go?” Addie asked.
“Addie!” Becca hissed.
“Sorry” she said.
“It’s fine. But the movers gotta come get my bed.”
“Oh” Becca said, as we all got up.
“Bye” I said crying and hugging my friends.
“We’ll miss you!” Becca and Addie said, sobbing. Even Devin was crying a little.
“We’ll visit soon” Devin sniffed.
“Julia, car!” My mom said. I hugged my friends one last time.
“Time to go ruin my life” I said getting in the car. We were driving to the airport, and our car, and stuff, are going to be shipped down there.
“Oh, Jules. Text us whenever possible. Okay?” Addie said.
I nodded. I rolled down my window, and waved to my friends.
“Bye!” I called.
“Bye!” They called back.
The car pulled away from them, and I rolled up my window. Putting my hood up, and stuffed my ear buds in my ears.
“Goodbye Alabama. I’ll miss you”
“Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts. Flight 29 non-stop to Washington is leaving for departure,” The overly friendly voice said over the intercom.
Ugggggg…..g2g leaving….miss you all
I text my friends.
Miss you :``(
Bbye…im sad….not same with out u. :’(
I shut down my phone and stuffed it into my bag. I listened to my ipod, as I started out the window.
**four hours later**
I must’ve fallen asleep, I woke up, stiff, in a car. I looked out the window, and saw an alien place. Everything was covered in green. Green trees, green grass, green tree trunks.
The car pulled to a stop, and I sat up.
“Where are we?”
“Home” My dad answered. I didn’t reply. My home was in Alabama.
“Julia, we know you didn’t want to move… You can pick your room first and then the movers will put you things up there, okay?”
I got out of the car, and went into the house.
I gasped. It was beautiful.
I looked through every room, and was about to pick the smallest room when I spotted another door. I opened it, and saw stairs, with a door at the top. I climbed the stairs, and opened the door. I gasped. This was an attic. A cool attic. There were two windows, with window seats. I opened another door, to find a bathroom, with a shower and all that good stuff.
I walked back down the stairs, and told the waiting movers where my room was.
“Mom, I picked the attic as my room!” I yelled to her. “Is it okay if I go on a walk? Just to explore”
“Yes honey that’s fine. Just stay on La Push, okay?”
“Okay” I yelled walking out the door.
There was no sun, but no rain. That’s good.
I walked toward the beach, and saw a whole bunch of people. Mostly native people, but there was a girl with long bronze curls.
“Jacob Black!” She yelled, hitting the guy sitting next to her.
“Hey, okay, okay! I’m done” he chuckled putting his hands up.
Jacob Black, huh? As in my cousin?
“Hey Jake!” I yelled. He turned around. Well, everybody, who all seemed like his friends, turned.
His eyes focused on my face, and then recognition was all over his face, as he got up and jogged to hug me. I laughed a little as he pulled me into a big bear hug.
“Jake” I gasped. “Wanna know a secret?”
“I can’t breathe!”
“Sorry, sorry” he said, smiling, as he set me down.
“What you doing here?” he asked.
I groaned. “We are moving here”
“What?” he asked. “Not happy to see me?”
“You? Sure, sure. This town? Not so much.”
“Oh, we’ll fix that”
I just nodded.
“Wanna go meet my friends?” he asked.
“You mean the people ten feet away? Sure, why not” he smiled, and I smiled.
“Okay. This is my girlfriend, Nessie.” he said pointing to the girl with the bronze curls. “That is Quil, Embry, Paul, Jared, and Seth. People I just said this is my cousin, Julia”
“Hey” I said.
They all said. One of the boys, I think his name is Seth, was starring at me.
“So, what’s up?” I asked. As an answer, I got splashed with water. “Last time I asked that question” I muttered.
“When did you get here?” Jake asked, as everyone else went back to their own thing. That Seth guy looked over a few times.
“Uh to my house? Twenty minutes ago.” I said and he nodded. My cell phone, which I had forgotten about, vibrated in my pocket. I looked at the Caller ID and saw Becca’s name flash across the screen.
“Uh-oh” I muttered. “One sec Jake”
“Ok” he turned to talk to Nessie.
“Juliet Isabella Alexander Marie Paxton! I-”
“Whoa, whoa, wait. What’s with the full name Rebecca?”
“You were suppose to text me an our ago!”
“Okay, don’t explode! I’m here now” I said looking around. Seth was looking at me again. And Jake was laughing at my phone call.
“I have to go Becca. Tell the peoples down there I said hi and I miss them. ‘Kay?”
“Bye” I hung up.
I’m sure all of them heard that.
“You know guys, ease dropping, very rude” I smiled.
“Sorry Jules. When Becca’s mad, she loud” Jake said. When he used to visit us, he hung out with me, Becca, Addie, and Devin.
“I know, I know.”
“Julia!” My mom yelled. “Come on home”
I sighed and fell back into the sand.
“Will some one tell her I died, please?” I moaned.
There were courses of “Nope”
“Ugg. Fine. I’ll see you all tomorrow?”
“Of coarse! The fair is in town!” Nessie shouted.
“I’ll be there!”
“Julia!” my mom screamed again. I silently cussed.
