Jacob and Catherine had been best friends for years, until seventh grade when she had to move away to New York. Years later, Catherine comes back to La Push to live with Jacob and his father because her parents died in a car crash.
When Jacob finally sees her after all these years, he feels likes they're the only people in the world, imprinting on her, but what happens when a new vampire comes to town and turns Catherine into one? Will Jacob still love her?
It hurt so much, the burning. I screamed out in pain and agony. Wanting the fire to stop. The man laughed bitterly. He was happy. Happy that I was in pain. Why? Why, why, why! Why me? Why did this happen to me?
Tears came to my eyes, it hurt so much. If only Jacob were there with me. I squeezed my eyes shut, imagining Jacob's face. His brown eyes, his dark chocolate brown eyes. They were beautiful. I envied his eyes, the were so marvelous.
Imagining Jacob there with me was the only thing that kept me sane the whole time I was turning. The only thing that drove me insane was the fact that I didn't know if whether or not Jacob would love me.
I pulled up to a small red house. I looked at the house for a minute or so. It still looked the same from the last time I was here. In fact, everything in La Push still looked the same.
I saw the front door swing open and a man rolled out in a wheelchair. Billy. I got out my car and smiled at him. He was looking good for someone in a wheelchair.
"Hey Billy," I gave him a hug.
"Hello Catherine," he said pulling away and looking at me. "You've grown so much." it looked like tears were coming to his eyes. "It seems like only just yesterday you were sitting there on that porch with Jake trying to read."
I laughed. "Where's Jake?" I asked. I wanted to see him so much, he was my best friend.
Billy looked at the door as if Jake was going to come out on cue. He looked back at me. "I'm sure he'll be here in a minute." he assured me.
I smiled. I couldn't wait to see him. I wondered if he changed much.
It seemed like hours until I saw Jake. I was unpacking my bags into the house when I saw him emerge from the woods. I don't think he saw me until he got inside. I heard the door open and footsteps coming towards the living room.
I turned around and saw Jake's shocked and surprised look. "Hi Jake," I greeted quietly. It was like he was frozen. He couldn't move or talk. "Um, Jake, are you okay?" I asked him worried.
He finally snapped back to reality and spoke. "Um, ya, just wow." He walked over closer to me and gave me a bear hug.
His skin was burning hot and he was hugging me so tightly that I couldn't breathe. "Um, Jakey, please put me down, I can't breathe!" He set me down gently, that's when I saw how tall and built he was. Last I saw him, he was short and lanky.
"I missed you so much Cat," he said hugging me more gently.
"I missed you too Jakey."
Please tell me what you think :)
After I unpacked my bags and settled in, Jake and I went to the beach and walked around for awhile. It was really sunny out today, which was different because it was usually rainy. The sun shone on the ocean, making it shimmer. Near the shore, little fish swam.
"So how was your life in New York?" Jake asked me.
I smiled, happy to answer his question. I told Jake about how at night, the lights were beautiful and about all the little boutiques and stores. I told him about my school and my friends, and my closest friend May. How she was always there for me, and how she wanted me to live with her.
"Why didn't you stay there and live with her?" he asked. "I mean, you seem to like it there and it seems much more greater than here."
I smiled at him. "Just because I liked it there, doesn't mean I'm crazy for it. There was way too much drama there and besides," I took a small breath. "I wanted to see you again."
He seemed happy as I finished my last sentence and that was good. I was happy that he was happy.
We had walked along the shore for about an hour or two and I was tired. We found a tree and sat down next to eachother without saying a word. The sun was starting to set. I smiled, I loved the sunset. It was so beautiful.
I put my head on Jake's shoulder, my eyelids getting heavier and heavier. I finally closed my eyes and went to sleep where I was.
I had awoken to a wolf howling loudly. I looked around me. I was laying on the sand and Jake was nowhere near me. I stood up, trying to get my balance. I looked straight ahead and I saw Jake walking towards the forest.
"Jake?" I said groggy. He obviously didn't hear me. I was too quiet. I didn't want to shout or anything and wake other peope up, so I decided to follow him.
I kept my distance, I wasn't too close or too far away. As he got into the forest, I had to be extra careful. I had to be sure I didn't step on any sticks or twigs. I hid behind a large oak tree when Jake went behind a large bush. I held my breath as I watched to see if he was going to come out.
I almost screamed when I saw what came out of the bush, it wasn't my little Jakey, it was a giant wolf, a wolf the size of a horse. I had to bite my lip to keep me from screaming so loud.
The wolf made it's way out from behind the bush and into a clearing a few meters away. I still followed the wolf. I stopped at the bush to see if Jake was there. I was stupid to think he was, because he wasn't.
I looked ahead of me at the clearing. I almost cried out in horror. It wasn't just that one wolf, it was a whole pack of wolves. Standing in a circle, all of them looking at one wolf, a wolf black as the night sky.
"Oh my god," I whispered quietly to myself. Apparently, it wasn't quiet enough, because all the wolves turned and looked at me. They could see me through the bush. They all growled except the russet coloured one that I saw earlier.
All of them stalked towards me growling, I thought I was going to die. "Oh god." I said to myself. What had I gotten myself into?
Just as one of them was about to bite me, the russet coloured one leaped in front of me and growled at the pack. I stood there, not being able to move. The black one growled back at him and snapped. I jumped, I started to back away slowly. I didn't want to be here anymore. I ran away, I ran so far that I didn't even know where I was. I sat behind a large tree. Breathing heavliy.
It was quiet and I thought I was all by myself until I heard a branch snap in half. I peaked my head out from behind the tree and and saw the russet coloured wolf a foot away from me. It steped closer to me and stared at me angrily. Then it's eye softened, and layed down next to me.
I looked and it confused. What was going on?
I reached my hand out to touch it. I was scared that it was going to bite my hand or something, but it didn't. I touched it's head and started to pet it. Strange right? I looked into it's eyes once more and recognized it's eyes. They were like Jacob's. I then realized that it was Jacob. Right there laying down next to me as a wolf.
"Jakey," I said.
The wolf looked at me and gave a wolfish grin.
I was scared and confused as hell. How could this happen? How could he be a wolf? These and more questions filled my mind. I looked at Jacob. His wolf eyes looked at me worriedly. I just kept staring a him. It was like he was trying to tell me something, but I couldn’t understand him.
I got fed up with the silent talking and snapped. “Will you go and change into a human please!” Jake was tooken back. He had never seen me like this, so crazy, confused, irritated. He did what he was told to do and went behind a bush to change back. When I saw his human body and face I was sort of realived.
“Thank you,” I said more softly. Jake didn’t say anything, he just sat down next to me. My voice now was hard and harsh. “Now would you like to tell me why-“ Jake looked at me with his eyes, pleading me to lower my voice. I glared at him, but took a deep breath and counted to ten. “Please tell me why you turned into a wolf.”
Jacob looked at me like he was still the russet coloured wolf that couldn’t speak to me. “Please?” I said one more time. He finally gave in and told me.
“It’s apart of me, it’s in my blood. It’s actually a really long story, that I don’t feel like explaining right now.” Jake told me simply.
I raised an eyebrow at him. “Fine, don’t tell me that then, but you will one day.” I said pacing. “Will you tell me other things?”
Jake sighed. “Yes, if you want.”
“Good,” I paused. “Who were those other wolves?”
Jake looked at me angrily, like he didn’t want to hear about them, like he wanted to kill them or something. “They were the rest of the pack, and the black one, the one that was going to attack you, was Sam Uley, also, our leader.”
I stood there silent, waiting for him to say more.
“Thanks to you, he’s mad as hell at me.” He finished.
“I-I’m sorry,” I replided quietly. “I saw you going into the woods when I woke up, so I followed you and then you changed into that giant wolf,” I started to speak faster and louder. “Then you went into that clearing and I stayed behind the bush so I see what was going on, but then you all saw me and-“
“Catherine!” Jacob exclaimed. He got up and hugged me. “You don’t have to explain anything to me, but you do have some explaining do to with the rest of them.”
My eyes widened to the idea. I was scared of them. What if they were going to eat me?! I pulled away from Jake. “T-they’re not going to hurt me are they?”
Jake looked at me for a moment and started to laugh. He was laughing at me? Why was he laughing at me!
“No, they aren’t going to hurt you,” he said still laughing. “They would never hurt anyone. Not even Sam.”
“Then why was he going to attack me!” I nearly shouted.
“It was only to scare you away. He wouldn’t actually hurt you.” he assured me. I glared at him. Should’ve told me that in the first play.
I suddenly grew tired, I was trying to stand but I couldn’t. Jake could see I was going to fall, he scooped me up in his arms and started to walk out of the forest and onto the beaches of La Push.
“Jake?” I said weakly.
“Promise me you’ll tell me everything now.”
I heard him sigh loudly. “I guess, sure.”
I smiled. “Thank you.” And right then and there, I fell asleep in his arms.
The morning sun glared in my eyes as I woke up. I got up and rushed to my window. I sighed in relief. I was still in La Push. Suddenly, everything about last night came rushing to my head. Did it really happen? Was Jake actually a werewolf?
I rushed downstairs and looked at the clock hanging on the wall. 2 o’clock!? I went into the kitchen and saw Billy at the table.
“Good morning, or should I say afternoon?” he greeted.
I smiled at him. “Hello Billy.” I looked around. “Where’s Jake?”
“He’s out with friends,” he told me. I knew it was a lie, Jake was with friends, but as a wolf. But I played along anyways.
“Okay, if he comes back, can you tell him I went out for a walk?” I asked.
“Sure thing,” Billy said not looking at me anymore.
I rushed upstairs to get dressed. I had to find Jake. As I was about to leave my bedroom, I saw a small envelope on my bookshelf next to my diary. I picked it up, it was from Jacob. I opened up the envelope and read the note inside.
Went to the woods again, I’m telling the pack to come to the beach so they can meet you, and so you can explain what you were doing at the clearing last night. When you get this, go to the beach.
I groaned. I forgot all about the pack, dammit. I trudged downstairs, the note still in my hand. I walked out the front door nervous.
When I got to the beach, I didn’t see Jake or a bunch of guys. I roamed around, wondering where they were. I stood at the edge of the water. I could feel some of it go onto my sandles as it washed up on the shore. I grinned, it felt nice. I started imagining what it was like, being able to swim al the time. Being in the water.
I felt a tap on my shoulder, taking me away from my thoughts. I jumped and spun around. “Jake,” I breathed. He smiled at me. “You scared me,” I chuckled. I stopped when I saw the guys behind him. I assumed already that it was the rest of the pack.
Jake took my arm and took me towards them. I was scared of them still, not as scared as I was last night, but I was still scared. Jake could tell I was, he rubbed my back and told me everything was going to be okay. When we got to them, I felt sick. They were all staring at me, some with shocked looks on their faces, some with anger in their eyes.
“Guys, this is Catherine,” Jake introduced me. “She wants to say something.”
“Um, I, um,” I could barely speak, I was too mervous. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves. “I’m sorry, for being there last night. I followed Jake and I didn’t know that I was going to see, um, giant wolves together.” I said awkwardly.
They all stared at me with blank expressions. I was starting to feel weird around them. I looked away from them and looked at Jacob with pleading eyes saying, “Can I please leave now?”
Jacob stared at me for awhile and nodded his head. I smiled and kissed his cheek. “Thanks,” I walked away looking behind me, see some of the smirk at Jake and others chuckling.
As I got behind a building I stayed behind it to see what they to him. I know I shouldn’t have been eavesdropping, especially after what happened the night before, but I couldn’t help it. I had to. It seemed when they thought I was gone, they started laugh louder.
“Does Jakey have a girlfriend?” one of the boys said to him in a teasing voice.
“Ugh, no.” Jacob answered irritated.
“Are you sure? Because it looks like it.”
“No!” Jake roared at the boy.
“Dude, you so like her.”
“Ya, you were blushing when she kissed your cheek.”
“Does it really matter?” Jake asked them.
“Yes.” all of them said at the same time.
“One more question,”
“Oh my god,” Jake muttered. “What!”
“Have you told her everything?”
“What do you mean, everything?” Jake asked confused.
“You know, everything about us. Everything about werewolves.”
“Dude, she just found out late last night, I didn’t have enough time to tell her everything.”
“Okay okay, but you should tell her everything, especially if she’s the one.”
“What about the one? I’ll never find the one.”
The boy that was talking to him groaned. “You’ll find the one, and we’re all pretty sure it’s her. We all saw how you looked at her. How you always want to protect her, we saw that last night when Sam was scaring the crap out of her. The point is that, we know that you imprinted on her, but you’ve been keeping it to yourself and blocking it out when you’re in wolf form.”
“There’s no point in lying, especially to her. You have to tell her.” another said.
I heard Jake sigh. “What am I going to do?” he asked. I started to think about the same thing. What was I going to do.
