The Twilight Saga

Above Graphic by me.

Who knew that saving a life can create romance?...

Alyssa Bennett didn't. When irresponsibly leaving home at night, she discovers a teenage boy being attacked by two suspicious men.

Since she is a demon hunter, saving lives is just an automatic instinct.

But when she is done fighting the men, she realizes the boy is unconscious. When he wakes up, he mistakes Alyssa for being his girlfriend named Sarah.

Now she has no choice but to take him home with her.

Prologue:

Alyssa’s Point of View

I shouldn’t have even been out that night. I was feeling a bit more vengeance towards my fellow demon hunters than usual.

The darkness of the night sky had seemed especially soothing tonight, with just a tad of fog hitting the city streets. I was in the mood for a party, just to let myself loose for a while. Ever since Agnes died, Liam and I have taken charge over the twins and Dylan. So I deserve a break.

I noticed the club that Agnes and Liam took me to when I turned sixteen, The City, was next to where I was standing.

I was about to walk right in, but I was interrupted by shouting and yelling. I let my hair out of its high pony tail because it was hurting my head.

I walked towards the alley where the racket was coming from. I saw two strange men attacking another man, no, a teenager.

I had to save him now.

The Wattpad version is slightly more edited, because I've changed names, like the Burkes, and I've had a few spelling & grammar errors. That is the only difference.

But here you get the pure "straight from the brain" version, and it is updated more frequently =)

Chapter Eleven; Bennett, Where Art Thou

Seventeen Years Ago (Underworld Time)

Third Person POV

It had been a year since Charisma’s death, and it felt as if the world had ended for everyone, especially James. James had been spending little time with anyone. He hadn’t fought a demon in ages, and didn’t want to ever look at Jared again. Ever.

As a good friend, Edward Ravener stopped by. He felt for his friend, even though he could probably never possibly understand the pain James felt. Edward walked slowly into James’s room, the one place James had been able to live in.

“Hey James,” James didn’t turn around to the sound of Edward’s shaking voice. “Jared’s disappeared, I’m a bit worried.” Edward moved inches closer to James.

“Screw him. He may as well rot in hell.” James’s words were low and mumbled.

“You actually might care. Cassia dumped him, and rumor has it he is dating Madeira instead.” Edward half smiled. James rolled his eyes.

“So basically you are setting me up with Cassia?” James laughed and shook his head.

“Well you did have your ‘awkward moment’ at graduation. Besides, neither of you are dating and the stars are aligning…” Edward chuckled as well.

“One date,” James promised, and the two friends smiled at each other like they had long ago.

Cassia had been a bit depressing lately. She had wished she maybe said something different. Jared must love her if he trusted her with his secret desires, right? The more she said it, the more it sounded like a lie. She quietly twirled her hair around her fingers. “Cass,” She heard a half smile in her cousin’s voice.

“Hey Dennis,” She half smiled back.

“If you need to talk or a shoulder to cry on, I’m here.” He said, looking at her worriedly. Cassia looked down at their feet which were beneath the bench where they were sitting at the Weiss manor.

She leaned on his chest solemnly. “I could use that shoulder.” She tried smiling but it didn’t work. A tear fell from her eye and she began shaking. Dennis held Cassia close, as she had in previous times for him. “Tell me everything.” He said, and she did.

She told him first about how Jared began dating her in the first place. It wasn’t as if Dennis didn’t know, she just really needed to vent. “We were in combat class. Mr. Wilson, he was pairing people up, and I was with Jared. I didn’t want to work with him. I thought he was an idiot and I could train all by myself. The truth was, I couldn’t, and I was just sort of cocky, you know, sophomores are all cocky.” She laughed slightly, but she was barely smiling.

“Anyway, he complimented me on my hair. He was a terrible flirt back then; I’m convinced he does it on purpose. I sort of laughed at him at first. Then we ran into each other at Opal’s birthday party. By ran into, I mean that literally. He made a few dumb comments, and I guess I fell for his charm. Within an hour we were kissing and laughing, and we were officially a couple that week.”

“I don’t even know what happened to that Jared. He’s the one I fell in love with. He just scared me last night.” She sighed.

“What did he do?” Dennis asked, very curious now. Cassia shivered, remembering how Jared spoke of running away and being evil. She promised she wouldn’t tell, Jared would kill her if she did. She cried a little harder to avoid answering.

“It’s okay.” He rubbed her shoulders and looked up.

“Thanks for saying that.” She sniffed. “I’m glad you can still think like that.” She couldn’t smile. She refused to cry anymore.

Someday, someday, someone would make Jared pay.

The streets of the Underworld were better kept up than the ones on Earth. Most were either cobblestone or brick. Well, that was on the rich side of Evane. On the poor side there were unpaved roads and tall buildings built close together. The people of the poor side usually either work for the demon jail or in the electrical plant. It is a shameful part of Evane, the poor are basically slaves for the rich, and their only true privilege is that they go to school to be demon hunters at the rich school.

Well except for the troubled children, but no one knows much about them. Most say that they are a nuisance, and aren’t supposed to be spoken of. It is said that they are born with a birth mutation, like they are too small, or unable to speak or hear. Most are killed at birth, but those who survive live at home with no human contact.

One troubled girl doesn’t live at home. Her name is Sophie, Sophie Darwin. She was barely an inch and a half too small, so her parents passed her off as a normal child. Sophie was accepted at the Academy, but not many people bother speaking to her. She is barely seen, and besides, her mother is a witch, not a demon hunter, so she is impure. Not to mention that she comes from a poor family.

James was raised to treat the poor as you would the rich. Therefore, he had recently befriended the small demon hunter. As he was walking by the border of rich and poor Evane to speak with Cassia, he ran into Sophie walking alone.

“Sophie? What are you doing out alone?” James asked, unsure if it was her or not.

“James!” She exclaimed, looking a bit skeptical.

“Shouldn’t you be home?” He asked.

“I shouldn’t have been—but I did. I went the dangerous way home; because I was informed Jared may be in the jail. Not that I was even curious, but my friends were, so we checked it out. T-they were shot by jail guards, but I escaped and ended up here.” Sophie’s voice was shaken as she approached James.

“It’s alright Sophie. Your mother and father are probably worried. Would you like to come with me to Cassia Weiss’s to warm up a bit? Then we can take you home alright?” He asked her.

“No, I shouldn’t intrude on your date.” She didn’t want to seem needy, though she knew she didn’t want to walk home alone.

“Nonsense. Come on Sophie.” He half smiled at her and she grabbed his hand.

“Thank you.” She said to him, and they rushed to the Weiss manor.

Hazel had invited herself to Cassia’s when she heard that James might ask her on a date. Cassia was doubtful that he’d bother, but she was happy to have Hazel around anyway. She needed some fun things to do. Hazel braided Cassia’s hair. The two girls were laughing to themselves when they heard a banging at the door.

Cassia rushed to answer. She smiled widely when she saw James at the doorstep. She raised a brow when she saw Sophie’s face. “James, I knew you were coming, but a poor person isn’t a great present for a girl.” Cassia smiled and James rolled his eyes.

“Look Cassia, I hate being set up by Edward and Hazel as much as the next guy, but I ran into Sophie along the way home. There was a shooting at the jail and she was involved.” James sighed.

“Why would you trust a little poor brat who was snooping around the jail cells?” Cassia scoffed.

“Sophie wasn’t looking for trouble. Her friends were. They heard Jared might be there.” James said aloud. He leaned in to whisper to Cassia. “I have a bad feeling Jared may have been there, and the shooting of the children may have been intended for him.”

Cassia gasped, yet she completely believed James. She crouched down to speak to Sophie. “Why don’t you come in and get something to eat?” She gestured Sophie in. Sophie walked in slightly fearful.

Cassia looked at James and sighed. He might be the only person she could trust with Jared’s secret of aspiring to be evil. “There is something you have to know about Jared.” She looked down.

She had to tell him, even if Jared came knocking at her door with a knife.

It was the right thing to do.

Alright, so you learned more about the past and Sophie.

Double-score!

I promise that the next chapter will be about the present =)

But, in addition, the next chapter will be in Jared's POV. This way you know what goes on in the mind of evil =P.

Excited?

As usual, leave your comments, questions, & predictions.

Bye!

New Banner by Me!

Chapter Twelve; Into the Dark

                                                                    Jared’s POV

“Eaque resurgere a mi ad me caritatem.” I tried the spell near a thousand times, but nothing could bring Cassia back to me. I never meant to kill her that night. I’d never intentionally harm her. The only reason I stayed away was because she wanted me to, and it seemed best that way. I do have human decency. Being with Madeira was originally just a simple way to show Cassia that I was getting over her as well, though deep down I would always be in love with Cassia.

For years I had been yearning for her to come back, so that I could at least tell her what really happened. It wasn’t as if she would care, never mind care, she wouldn’t believe me. But it would make me feel better about it, so that I could have some closure.

But recently I’d realized that I might not need Cassia to return. After all, her daughter was here. From what I’ve heard, young Alyssa is often compared to James, she has a good fight and spirit, and she wouldn’t harm a fly unless it was a life or death situation. However, in my eyes she is quite similar to Cassia.

She seems like the type of person who will easily fall for someone, and manipulate her way through anyone or anything to be with them. Then again, she wouldn’t be afraid to hurt someone, as Cassia hurt many to end up with James. The girl made me very curious, almost too curious.

“Hello Jared.” I flinched when I heard Madeira’s cat like voice.

“Darling, I’m a little busy right now.” My face went from an annoyed smile to a grimace, but I never turned to look at her. Somehow I felt her frown.

“Too busy for me?” She rubbed my shoulders and I hated it.

“What do you want Madeira?” I spoke harshly. She shook her head.

“To think, just a few years ago all you wanted was me.” She rolled her eyes.

“What I wanted was my secret safe, and when you mentioned it, I wanted a son to share it with! I wanted to show him our glory, and if it wasn’t for you not giving him to me in the first place Dylan and the Underworld would be mine!” I shouted at her and she trembled. I kept speaking. “But of course now Edward Ravener has probably taught him to hate me.” I sighed loudly.

“I’m only staying with you because of Dylan! Don’t you think I want a family?” She pouted.

“No, you want a prince to come to you on a white stallion, and that is something I can’t provide you with!” She was giving me a headache now.

“You killed my mother Jared, and I forgave you when I came back to you to find the savior. Now I’m starting to regret it.” She threatened.

“Regret away Madeira. Leave if you must. I only bombarded you around to impress Cassia Bennett.” I confessed, hoping this would keep her quiet. It only did the opposite.

“You didn’t even love me! That is sick Jared! I’m leaving!” She put on a pouty face.

“Great! I’ll pack your bags for you.” I shouted.

At that moment Dylan walked into the room. If Edward hadn’t put him against me before, now he really was. “Dylan…” Madeira turned to him.

“Never mind. Where’s Dan?” His question was directed at me.

I did my research on this “Dan” character. He seemed suspicious, so I had him locked in the basement. Cruel you ask? I know he isn’t a demon hunter; I’m just not sure what he is. So I did this for my own protection.

“I haven’t the slightest idea. Are you sure he isn’t in his room?” I lied.

“Yeah, Alyssa and I have been searching for hours.” Dylan said.

“Alyssa?” I asked. It wasn’t that I didn’t suspect she’d be looking. I just thought maybe she’d tell me more about Daniel if maybe I helped look. I’d have to think about it.

“Well duh. She’s in love with him, as far as I know anyway.” Dylan smirked slightly.

“Ah. Well, I’ll let you know if I see him, alright?” I asked, and he nodded as he walked away.

“Goodbye Jared.” Madeira scowled and made a big production as she left the room.

Finally, I was alone. I walked down the stairs to see Dan, to see if he knew anything. It wasn’t like I would release him if he did. “Conteram clamando,” I said to break the glamour of a blank basement I had so that no one could see that I was holding Dan prisoner.

“Good morning sunshine.” I grinned and winked at Dan. He rolled his eyes.

“Skip the small talk.” Dan sighed.

“What are you?” I cut to the chase and asked him.

“Male.” He laughed without humor.

“Don’t try and be smart boy, I’ve been at this a lot longer than you.” I crossed my arms.

“I wouldn’t tell you anything for all the money in the world.” Dan challenged.

“How about for Alyssa Bennett? She’s really scared for you. I hear she’s been looking for you all day.” I smirked.

“You won’t touch her and get away with your life.” Dan spoke protectively of Alyssa.

“Let me remind you Daniel, you are trapped in an invisible box, and I have the whole world at my feet. I think I have the fair advantage here.” I smiled, and tapped the box.

“Once I get out of this box,” Dan began, but I cut him off.

“Which you never will my friend,” I liked seeing him so aggravated. “I’ll come check on you later Daniel, but right now, I have a Bennett girl to win over.” I chuckled, and Dan attempting to kick his way out of the box.

“You’ll hurt yourself more than the box my amigo.” I winked, and handed him a mirror, the magic mirror specifically, the one where you can see anything you want. “You can look at her if you wish, but you might be sorry.” I smiled and turned on the glamour again.

Alyssa was sitting on the staircase alone. Her brown hair was twisted into a long braid down her back. She looked down at her feet and sighed. I smiled to myself and morphed myself into Dan’s body. It was a new power I had acquired recently. Besides, the only way I’d get information was if I was Dan.

“Hey,” I smiled at her in his body, which felt awkward.

“Dan! Oh my goodness I was so nervous.” She kissed me, (well, him technically) and to my surprise her lips felt just like Cassia’s. We released after ten seconds.

“I’m perfectly fine.” I smiled.

“Where were you? If you teleported, Jared could have found out about what you are!” She was still nervous. Teleport? Dan was a shadow watcher? It made sense; it must run in the family, people falling for shadow watchers. The thing was, they all died the night of Charisma Timms’s death. Or so I thought.

“Don’t worry, I didn’t go too far. I just had to disappear in case Jared’s ‘investigation’ happened.” I shrugged.

“You drive me crazy sometimes.” She shook her head, and we kissed again. This one felt tenderer, more heartfelt. It was crazy, but I felt like I was Dan for the seven seconds of the kiss.

“Believe it or not, I have to go, I might have found something out about Jared. But I’m not sure yet. See you later?” I lied.

“Be careful,” She said as she watched me leave through the front door. From the door I morphed back into myself, and rubbed the lip gloss off my lips.

Shadow watcher, eh? I think I have a vanquishing potion for that. Let’s just hope it works.
