-Chapter 1-
Scarlet POV

“Hey, Scarlet!” Alex yelled as he barged into my room.

“Yeah, Alex?” I asked politely, though I felt need to punch him right then.

“What are you doing?” he asked, faking innocence.

“I’m reading.”

Then, he grabbed the book out of my hands. “What is this? It’s not even school yet! What is wrong with you?”

“Nothing! Why do you care anyways? Just give me my book back!” I stood up, ready to grab him, but he ran downstairs. I waited for what I knew was coming.

“SCARLET GET DOWN HERE!!!” I trudged down the stairs. “Why are you being mean to Alex?” his mom asked while tapping her foot.

“But I-”

“No, buts! You are having double chores!”

“That doesn’t mean anything anyways. I already just about clean everything.”

“You are going to make this house sparkling by the end of the week, and you are going to make our meals, and do anything else we ask of you. Now go to your room! You start tomorrow!”

I grabbed my book from my cousin and ran upstairs before anyone could react, and I locked the door. I grabbed my book and wallet and climbed out the window. I snuck off the property and down the path, climbing up a tree where I can relax and read in peace.
-Chapter 2-
-Angel POV-

“ANGEL!!!!!” I walked out of my room to where my mother was. “What the HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU!” She slapped me hard across the face, “THIS HOUSE IN A MESS!!!”

I looked around our small apartment, trying to find one thing out of place. Our apartment is, in one word, crappy, but clean. The only things out of place were her jacket, shoes and purse, which were the things she just put down. I picked up her things and put them away. When I turned around, she was stumbling in the direction of my sister’s room, which is also mine.

“Where are you going, Mother?”

“I can go wherever I want!” she slurred.

“Fine, but don’t you dare lay a hand on her, you hear me?!”

I let her walk past me and into the room. I saw my sister turn around and give my mom the death glare. “What do you want?” she asked rudely.

“Don’t you dare talk to me like that!” she raised her hand, my sister flinched, and I grabbed her arm before she had the chance to hit her.

I dragged my mother out of the room, hearing he door shut and lock as soon as we were out. I let go of her and stepped away.

“Calm down, Mother! Relax!”

She started to relax, she staggered over to the kitchen, then I heard clanking of bottles. *sigh* I walked slowly back to my room.

I knocked, “Open the door it’s me.”

She opened the door just enough to peek through and she looked at me. Then, she opened the door fully, and I stepped inside.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

“Yeah, just fine.”

I laid down on my bed, closed my eyes and turned on my ipod. I listened with the ear buds in my ears. Soon, my eyes drooped and I fell into a deep sleep.
Chapter 3
Angel POV

“Angel! Wake up! It’s the first day of school!”

“Okay, okay! I’m up!” I stood up, the ipod falling off of me. I picked it up. “Great, low battery.”

I walked out of the room looking for our mother, while Aurora walked into the bathroom. I walked into my mother’s room, and she was sleeping on her bed. She was mumbling and whimpering. She gripped an empty vodka bottle that was on her bedside table. I shook my head in disappointment and closed the door. I went back to my room and grabbed all the things that I would need. I walked to the kitchen dropping my things as I grabbed some cereal for breakfast. I cleaned up and went and knocked on the bathroom door.

“A, are you done?”

“Yeah, just give me a minute.” I stood there impatiently.

“Come on! I wanna be outta here before she wakes up.” She opened the door and a whole bunch of steam blew into my face. “Jeez, what were you doing in there? Cooking breakfast?”

“Yup.” She walked into the bedroom to get dressed, as I slid into the shower. I was hoping that the cold water would make me feel refreshed and ready for the day, but that didn’t happen. I felt just as I felt when I woke up, depressed and ready to crawl into bed, but that would mean staying here and nobody wants that. I finished my five minute shower and got dressed. I dried my hair and ran my fingers through it. Okay good, I’m ready. I left the bathroom and put on my shoes.

“A, are you ready?”

“Ya!” she called and stepped out of the room. She was dressed in a white blouse that only covered one shoulder and a blue inside shirt. She was also wearing skinny jeans and white and black converse.

“Wow, when did you get so girly?”

“I just want to look good for my first day.”

“Uh huh, sure. I’ll just make sure to scare all the guys at school to keep them away from you.”

She blushed and her mouth opened about to protest. “Come on, we’re going to be late!” I locked our bedroom door, picked up my things, and started to walk to school.
