The Twilight Saga

Once again Miffi-B to the rescue !!! :)

Tracy <3

What if it was never Edward- the shining vampire who always came first- what if he had come second in the race for Bella's love?
What if he had come second to Jacob?
Takes place from the very beginning of Twilight.

I entered the cafeteria on my first day at Forks High School, feeling anxious and a little sick. The reason of removal from my previous hometown, Phoenix, was a long and twisted tale but I had been forced to tell it many times that day I was so tired of repeating those words 'my mum got remarried and I needed to spend some time with my dad'.
I knew they were all being polite by asking, probably just conducting proper conversation, and I didn't mind mostly.
My day had gone well. People were kind, welcoming...with one exception. Edward Cullen. I didn't know him, and with the way things were going I didn't really want to.
Something about me seemed to repulse him.

I'd entered the science room first period after being chauffeured by two of my new friends, Mike and Eric. Mr Banner had pointed the only vacant spot out to me and the only thought that had entered my head had been 'well, isn't he just adorably attractive'.
The boy with the only spare spot next to him was Edward Cullen as I had later found out, and he was- I must say- extremely disturbing.
His skin was pale, his eyes black, his touch frozen and his teeth extremely pointed. My eyes protested to the beauty of his appearance, it almost hurt to look him in the eye.
By the end of the lesson I was shaken, confused.

The cafeteria's packed, people racing everywhere. Jessica led me over to their usual table, introducing me to a few new people and pulling me up a seat.
I saw Edward staring at me from across the room, where he sat with his family. He was frowning with frustration and anger. I hung my head in embarrassment.
"Who's the rest of them?" I asked Jessica, gesturing with a nod.

"Oh. Well, the blonde ones Rosalie, she's with Emmett, the big one with the black hair.
Then there's Alice, she's really weird. And Jasper, the blonde boy who always looks in pain. And of course, Edward"
She grinned at the last name and I wondered how she could still like him under that murderous glare. Or was it just me he glared at?

"Hey Bella. What happened between you and Cullen in science? He seemed kind of...tense"
Mike asked, taking a seat between me and Jess.

I shrugged, puckering my lips. "I really don't know. He just kept turning away and gasping for air or something"

"Wow. You don't stink that bad" He joked.
I laughed with him, just not to seem hostile.

The afternoon was welcomed with open arms. I jumped in my truck, trying to ignore Edward as he looked at me angrily from his expensive looking Volvo.
Skidding down the road, covered with afternoon traffic, I eventually pulled up outside my house, checking out the extra car on the drive.
There was Charlie's cop car, my old Chevy and another black truck.
I hurried inside, where my eyes met an old man with long black hair and a large stomach, seated in a wheelchair next to what looked like son.
Now my eyes feasted on this boy for more than a few seconds. He was brilliant. Tanned, as all the La Push Indians were, well built and extremely attractive.
I knew him well, but had never seen him this way. What was he know 15? 16? Last time I'd laid my eyes on him we were young kids, making mud pies and he was just another boy with coodies.

"Bella, you remember my friend Billy Black, and his son Jacob?"

"Yeah. Hey Jacob. Hey Billy." I smiled as polite as possible, trying to take my eyes off the boy.

"Hey Bella."
I blinked, slightly taken aback, as he stared at me in exactly the same manner, like I was the most gorgeous thing he had seen in a while.
Well of course, he wasn't attractive as the Cullen's, but so far- a lot friendlier.

"Why don't you kids go talk upstairs? Me and Billy are gonna watch the Teev for a while." Dad excused us and we jumped the stairs up to my room.

"Been a while hasn't it?" His deep voice rumbled from behind me.

"Yeah. Just a bit." I agreed.
He was a bit anxious, nervous, jumpy. He laughed a rough bark as I stumbled over air and caught me before the ground flattened my nose.
"Thanks." I flushed.

We sat on the top step, chatting about being kids and high school. Sadly, he went to school on the reservation- it would have been nice to have company.
The voices of our dad's travelled up to us easily- obviously they thought we were further away.

"There’s definitely something there!" I heard Billy comment, chuckling darkly.

"Something where?"

"Between Bella and my boy."

"Oh. I hope so. Jacob's a good boy and Bella...well, Bella's Bella."
I frowned at Charlie's lack of promotion on my behalf.

"Bella's a beautiful girl..." Billy paused momentarily. "We should have a try at this!"

"Sure, Bella can be there any afternoon this week"

Jacob laughed beside me. "So they've already started setting our play dates"

"Yeah, but I think they intend on leaving out the play this time" I joked truthfully.

Hey guys, let me know what you think about the whole love swap thing! XD

Chapter 2- Jacob Black- My boyfriend.

The days passed and Forks was seeming more and more exciting...all induced with my fascination of Jacob of course.
I'd never felt this way about anyone before. I mean, yeah sure, he was younger. But he was nice to me- gentle, kind, loving, playful, funny- do I have to mention insanely gorgeous??
I spent every one of my four afternoons in this town driving out of it, toward La Push.
He made everything better, I loved being with him- it was worth being in this rain burdened town just to see him everyday.

But there was also the factor of Edward Cullen. He was like the damper cloth over my perfectly made sunshine.
Little did I know, that when I got up on this certain day- on my fifth morning, that would change.
Jake rang early, before I left for school, as usual. It was so easy to talk to him, like breathing. We were best friends. And we both wanted this to go further, that little bit more.
And it would, we just needed to wait for the right moment.

So anyway, I walked into the school gates and bumped into the very person I was avoiding especially today- the only object in this world that could ruin my good mood.
Edward Cullen.” Oh. Hi!"
It was so strange. I always greeted him politely, the old hey, how’s it going. And I was always rewarded with the same run away stare.
I was really getting sick of it and my manners where beginning to falter.
Expecting him to run away, I was already half walking off, when a block of ice was pressed to my arm, making me jump.
I turned back around, only to find the block of ice was actually his strong hand. He drew back immediately.

"Hey, Bella. I just wanted to apologise for my rudeness towards you lately. It's not you, trust me...it's, well, personal."
His smile blew me over. Dazzled me, in a way.

"No. no, that's fine. I get what you mean." I stuttered distractedly.

"I was kind of hoping you'd let me make it up to you."

"Uh...it's really fine."
But the naggy voice in the back of my head argued 'let the man repay you!'

"Oh. Well, at least let me buy you lunch!"
He insisted, bringing in backup- another mind-blowing crooked smile.

"Sure" I shrugged, mouth wide open in astonishment. Was it really possible for a human to be so irresistible?
He led me to the cafeteria after class, picking up a lunch tray and piling on a bit of everything.

"Woah, woah, woah! That's enough!" I laughed, putting half the food back in the canteen.
He handed the tray over, frowning at me in frustration.

"What?" I asked, laughing nervously.

"Nothing, nothing."
But he kept looking at me like he was concentrating hard- like something about me was wrong. It creeped me out.

"Okay, well thanks. You really didn't need to do this."

"It's nothing, please. Just eat"

"I will." I nodded, still frowning slightly. "Bye."

He let me walk away and I sighed with relief when I reached Jessica and Angela.

"What was that?" She asked, staring over at Edward.
"Stop looking!" I groaned, waving a hand in front of her face.

"He sooo likes you!" Angela giggled excitedly.
"No he doesn’t!" Jess snapped, then backtracked hurriedly. "I mean, Cullen doesn’t date."

"No worries guys. I already have a boyfriend."

"Who?" The both shouted loudly.

"Shush! You don't even know him. His name's Jacob, he's from La Push. I mean, it's not official yet, but it's definitely there."

"We have to meet him!" They insisted, jumping up and down in their seats.

That afternoon I jumped in my truck and headed down the road to La Push.
The fact that Jacob was waiting made me push the accelerator to its limit so the engine was groaning when I pulled up in the Black's driveway.

"Hey Bells!" Jake yelled, racing out and pulling me into his arms.

"Hey!" I squealed as he swung me around.
When he put me back on my feet I kissed his cheek and felt him flush under my lips. "Come on, let's go!" I laughed as he tried to convert my kiss to his mouth.

"Oh come on Bells. You know I like you!" He was serious now, holding my hands and looking into my eyes.

"Yeah Jake, I like you too" I said, confused at where this was going.

"Well...how much do you like me?"
Oh. I suddenly understood.

"Jacob Black, are you asking me out?"
My brain was bopping around happily in my scull, but I kept a straight face, letting a little curiosity sink into my expression.

"Well yeah but..."
I kissed him on the cheek again, standing on my tiptoes so I could reach and then whispered in his ear "thought you'd never ask!"

He pulled me off my feet again in his excitement, yelling loudly.
"Okay enough, enough!"

"Sorry Bella."
I held his hand and pulled him towards the beach, my heart beating with joy...I could finally say "Jacob Black- My boyfriend."
Oohh this is awesomeee. Can't wait for moree. :)

Chapter 3- Alice's POV

"Edward, settle down"
I moaned as he stalked past me again. He had been pacing back and forth for two hours straight now, mumbling irritatingly.
I would be worried for him, if it wasn't so annoying.

"What do you see?" He snapped.

"I told you, when I see anything I'll tell you."

"Well...Uhhh!" He yelled in frustration, kicking a hole right through the couch.
Esme looked up from her cleaning, frowning in dissaprovment.

"Edward, you have no confirmation that she’s with a werewolf"
Carlisle spoke softly from behind me.

"Yeah Bro, why do you even care about the delicate little human?"
Emmett laughed coolly.

"For exactly that reason Emmett. She's a delicate little human. She needs my protection!"
Edward sighed, glaring at every one of our assurances.

"Edward, that's really not your job." Esme assured him motherly.
Alright, I'd had enough of this. It was doing my head in enough that I couldn't see Bella anymore; I didn't need Edward chucking a block about it too.

"Really Edward, it's not like she's anything to you."
Rosalie spat as I walked past her.

"Actually, I see them getting very close soon." I contradicted her, eyes narrowed.
I wanted them to be together. It was exactly what Edward needed. He'd been waiting 100 years for her.
And she would need his protection sooner rather than later, that is- if she wanted to stay alive.
Well, hanging around with the wolves didn't seem like a good way to keep your life. I couldn't think of any other excuse to why she couldn't be found in my visions.

I'd never talked to this Bella, but I knew Edward loved her.
At first the visions had been terrified, a hungry vampire hanging over a small, limp body.
That had carried on for days. Almost a week. They still focused in some times, but ever since Edward had taken the chance to talk to Bella, sometimes I got visions of a happy couple, lying together in a meadow.
It was the path Edward was set on. The path he needed to go through.

I wouldn’t think of it now, not while he was so close, but there was another boy involved.
I could see him clearly, but his edges were blurred. It was likely he was involved with the wolves Bella was around, or less likely, but still possible...he was a werewolf himself.
I'd seen Bella's path- nearly the same as Edwards, but with this boy- Jacob, I think.

I hated this boy already; I didn't need to meet him.

I flew up the stairs and into my bedroom, lying horizontally across the bed and closing my eyes, concentrating.
I jumped as a little box appeared in my head...I quickly followed my vision. I sighed in relief. Bella.
She was with Jacob, and three other figures I couldn't see for the blur...wolves in their human forms. She was smiling, cuddled smugly under the boy's arm.
Oh no...I was too late.
I pulled from the vision and next second I was back by Edward's side, pulling him outside, away from any valuable furniture or 'people'.

"I saw something"
I whispered, though I knew the others would still hear.

"What?" He growled, impatient.

"Bella's fine okay? But..."

"But what?"

"Edward, how much do you love her?"

"Love? Alice, love has nothing to do with this. You've seen the danger in her path. I feel a need to keep her safe. That's it."
For a good liar, it was impossibly easy to see through his cover, like a piece of glass. He spoke too fast, too defensive.

"Oh, I'm so sorry Edward." I cried, flinging my arms around him. "I know you've waited so long for her."

"Yeah, try a century." He groaned. An awkward silence filled the air as realisation hit my unexpecting brother. I wanted to protect him from it, to keep him under my shelter.
But there was no one could protect Edward from himself. "I'm not getting her, am I Alice?"

"She may as well not know you exist when she looks at this boy. I don't get it. It's just so..." I shook my head, bewildered.
The bond between them was almost visible, like they were tied by actual metal chains. I'd never seen anything like it between two humans.
If only Edward was human. Then he could get over this; let it be a simple phase. But once we change, we can never change back. He would be in love with Bella until he dies...if he ever dies.

I made you a banner after getting your email :)
