Story by ♥Mrs.EdwardCullen♥
Edward Anthony Mason's story
Summer of 1917:
The sun was warm on my bare chest as I was lying on the brown sand of Spain. I was having a vacation with my mom, due to the fact that her forty-second birthday passed a month and half ago. The sound of kids laughing, water splashing, and a ball in the air made me smile.I was also aware of the fact that some girls were staring at me, I wondered why but chose to ignore them and went back to looking out into the deep horizon.
I was intrigued by the the way the sun shone on the sea, making the water sparkle, wondering what it would be like to have the sun reflect on my skin that way. I wasn't sure I liked it, but still, I thought it would be ---
"Mom?" I asked, dazed from the dream I was having of being out of this place, healthy, and free.
"Oh, Edward. I feel so sick! Please, darling, get me a nurse. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh"
I couldn't bare to see her in such pain.
"NURSE!!" I yelled as loud as I could, feeling my lungs burn with every syllable. God, I hate this Spanish Influenza!
I saw the nurse come in and turned around, I couldn't take much more of this.
CHAPTER 1 : BURNING
I woke, remembering my mother's screams, and nothing else from the day before.
"Good morning, Edward." said Dr. Carlisle Cullen, a handsome man that awed any woman he talked to. From my periphery I could feel a nurse watching Dr. Cullen, a bedazzled expression on her round face.
"Ummm, good morning, sir," I turned around and saw that my mother wasn't there, "where is my mother?"
"Your mother..." he trailed off and I knew already the rest of the sentece, but I needed to hear him say, just to confirm my fear. "My mother is what, sir?" my voice trembled for the first time of my life, I was full of fear, afraid the doctor would confirm my horror and make this day a nightmare.
"She passed away last night, son." Damn.
This was the first, and not the last, night I had to spend without my mother in the dreadul hospital. I was used to not being with mother all the time, but I always knew she was at home, waiting for me. But not this time, this time she wasn't going to be there when I woke up. I didn't like that one bit.
After hours of a sleepless night full of sobs, I woke up yelling at the top of lungs. I never thought pain could be so intense.
I saw the doctor from last night come in. He was deliberating and debating with himself. Finally he sent everybody out and told them to not come back unless he tells them to. I had a feeling he wan't going to call them in again.
"I am so sorry Edward, please forgive me..... Elizabeth, may you rest in peace."
I didn't understand why he spoke my mom's name and how come he said he was sorry, but I hoped he was going to stop the pain, and so I just waited.
He stopped the pain alright, but he sure didn't help me. I felt like he was setting on me fire, inside and out. My intestine was burning, my mouth, my brain, and every inch of my body, from head to the tip of my toes, It felt like cancer, spreading by the minute and killing everything in its way, only this cancer was burning me alive.
I thought the pain was intense before, but never experienced this pain before I said that. I, and this time truelly, never knew pain could be so intense.
