Hi everyone, so this is a story that I wrote out in 2009 and just found it again. This is all human...For now.
Edward had left Forks every summer and never met Bella. He did hear about her after his return home, but by then Bella had left to go back to her mother's. For the first time Bella and Edward are both in Forks at the same time.
What happens when they finally meet each other? When Bella is set to leave for the active war in the army; how can a relationship blossom in such little time that they have before her departure? Edward's anxiety over Bella's well being overseas begins to get the best of him. Will Bella return from battle? If she does, will she be the same Bella that Edward knew before she left?
Stronger than Words
“Hey Bro, get dressed. I am taking you out before you decide to kill yourself.” Emmett shouted in the tiny loft.
“Do you mind, man? I could have heard you all the way down the street. This place echoes too much.” Edward stated with his hands over his ears, annoyed. Another day in paradise…
Moving back home after graduating from college was not the way Edward had planned out his future. Living the high life in a big city was; however, the way the economy had been, left few desirable jobs. His parents begged him to stay with them, but Edward refused. He wanted to have a small part of his adult life without the watchful eyes of his parents. So they paid for his small loft above a garage in Forks until he found a job that would allow him to pay for it on his own.
Emmett whispered this time, emphasizing his posture to create that of a mouse. “Bro, can you get up and get dressed so we can go?”
“I do not want to party again with you Emmett, every time I do, you always get into a fight.”
Emmett chuckled at his remarks with a big grin that turned quickly into a somber face…a sincere one.
“Bro, we’re not going to the bars dude, a friend of mine that came to town after you left for college is going off to serve our country and her father is having some big shindig for her before she leaves.” He said in a torn up tone.
“It’s a woman?” Edward asked confused, pulling his brows inward.
“Yeah man, she is like my little sister dude, I love her to death. I even tried to convince her not to join, but she wouldn’t have it. I didn´t think she would put her parents through this, being the only child and all, but dude, get this. She insists that she is just as smart if not smarter as the guys and that she can pull her own weight out there.”
Edward was convinced that Emmett’s friend was not thinking clearly.
“Emmett, it takes more than just brains to get through an active war. I do not think your friend knows what she has gotten herself into. Is she quick on her feet? Is she physically strong enough to handle what she will be put through?” Edward asked in all seriousness.
Emmett heaved in a breath.
“Well dude, I am not sure how she graduated from basic because she is so clumsy. The strong part… hm, I wouldn’t say that she is physically strong, but mentally…yes. She is a strong woman, I have to have faith that she will come back in one piece.”
Edward sat there, wondering how this clumsy and not so physically strong woman thought she could make it through this… alive. Well, anyway – any distraction from his own misery would help, so he stood up, looking down at Emmett, and ordered him out of the loft with a big sigh.
“No!” Emmett panicked. “Dude, you have to go, Jazz already skipped out on me. Alice made him go with her to get the last minute decorations for Bella’s party.” He begged with flattering eyelashes while placing his ball cap backwards.
Another sigh came from Edward – his friend was great, but he lacked a bit in his mental fitness. “Emmett, I will join you, but I have to change and if you haven’t noticed…there is no bedroom in which I can do that from.” He explained with a light smile, showing the room, slowly starting to unbutton his shirt.
“Oh dude, totally forgot about that. See you outside bro.” Emmett said with a disgusted look on his face with the picture of Edward changing his briefs in front of him.
“Hey Emmett, whose old house are we going to?” Edward asked, curious.
“What do you mean…old house?” Emmett’s face was clearly lost.
“Well, we know just about everyone here in town so I guessed that someone moved out of town and this family bought the house then.” Edward thought the question was obvious.
“Dude, its Chief Swan’s place…It’s his daughter. I thought you knew her from when she came to visit her dad in the sum…Oh wait; you were always gone for the summer when she came here.” Emmett quickly said with bulging eyes when the light bulb kicked in.
Edward remained silent then. He had heard things about her when he would return home from summer vacation but never had the chance to meet her himself. As they drove down the road that Chief Swan resided on, they could see the long line of vehicles that trailed both sides of the road. Edward was surprised to see that most of the town came out for this girl.
“Emmett, Is she the only one in town that joined?”
Emmett laughed hysterically punching Edward in the shoulder. “Bro, she’s not the only one, but trust me on this one: Bella is an awesome chick to be around; I think you will like her.”
“So her name is…Bella?”
“Yeah bro, she’s really cool.”
When they both arrived at the Swan’s residence, the many people that came awed them. You couldn’t tell that there was a front yard. Alice was there, sitting in a tree, wrapping some last minute Chinese night lights up for later, directing Jasper to give her some more length. Emmett couldn’t withstand the thought of waiting for his girl to find him; naturally he left Edward to fend for himself for the time being.
Edward leaned against the car at the front of the drive and watched Jasper and Alice together, he basked in the way they loved each other completely. He sighed, the feeling of loneliness set in.
“Edward Cullen! Nice to see you again son. Heard you were back in town. How was college for ya?” A deep friendly voice from behind him.
“Hello Chief Swan, nice to see you too. I am not sure how long I will be in town and…college; well, even with graduating, it is hard to find a job.”
“Yeah, I know it’s getting hard out there but it will get better sooner or later. Don’t let it get you down, when everything is better I am sure that you will have a great career.” Chief Swan stated proudly, resting his hand on Edward’s shoulder.
“C’mon Edward, I want to introduce you to my baby. Bells, where are you?” Chief Swan called out with joy, guiding Edward into the house.
“Hold on dad, I’m changing.” Bella yelled down the stairs.
“Oh Bells. I wanted to take some pictures of you in your uniform.” He said sourly.
A few minutes later, Bella was running down the stairs, announcing that she was coming, wearing a yellow tank top with a twin pocket white button up shirt over it and a pair of slim jeans that fit her body perfectly. Her long brown locks held up in a ponytail to show her glowing face. Once she reached the end of the stairs she tripped over her own feet and fell down the stairs – right into Edwards arms who threw himself for rescue without thinking.
“Crap, why does this sort of thing always happen to me?” she whined.
Edward stood solid, finally getting a good clean close look at her. He felt a rumbling course across his chest like an engine revving up in a race car... his heart moving at a pace that he had never felt before. Bella was striking to his eyes; the deepest brown eyes that he had ever seen beckoning to his soul, calling to him.
If anyone reads this first chapter. Please let me know if you would like to read more. Thanks D
My other stories:
Thanks :) I will for sure.
If you can give me hm...Until midnight; I can get another chapter posted. Anyone wanting to read tonight or shall I wait until tomorrow?
I finally got onto your new story- and it's good! I like it, I can't wait until Bella and Edward's date- oh and the outcome of Bella going off to war. Yet another great original storyline. :)
Yes, you can post more! Of course I am not going to object to that.
Keep up the fantastic work!
Nice to see you hear as well and thank you. I wrote this one out a couple of years ago and just found it, lol. It was written okay in my book, but I have a lot of fillers to add because back then, I was in too much of a rush to do that. Inexperienced at the time. Thought it was worth adding here. Yes the date, should be good. I hope everyone understands what is coming in the next couple of chapters though. I hope. Not that original is it?
I will be posting more soon. Just have to add some fillers in this next one. See you then :)
just read it and i have to tell you that was AWESOME
Thanks for stopping by and reading. Thank you so much. I hope to see you back soon.
Edward stood there raising his hand to knock again, but stopped dead when he saw Bella and met her gaze.
“G- good evening Bella, you look…lovely.” He stated breathlessly.
“Um, hi…would you like to come in or are you ready to go?” she replied, feeling herself blushing.
Bella was hoping that he would say that he was ready and so he did, but not before handing her a long stemmed Lavender rose. Bella thought that giving a lavender rose was odd – most guys would give a red rose – but nevertheless she loved it. Smiling, taking in the smell with closed eyes, she thanked him for the rose, and then they walked out to the car. Edward remained a gentleman; with a broad smile he attended to her by opening her door. Bella felt strange again and knew that more than likely this would fade out in time as most do from what she has seen. A few yards down the road Edward began speaking to her with a small husky voice, showing his uncertainty.
“Bella…I just wanted to say that if you felt pushed into this date - I give my sincere apologies.”
“Pushed? No, I wanted to come.” She blurted out quickly.
Edward felt happiness – just now he realized that he held his breath and let it gently go in with a relieved sigh.
“I was…hoping you would say that. Bella…can I ask you something?” he asked in hesitation, but smiling.
“Sure, what it is it?”
“What made you decide to join the army?” His curiosity was almost presumptuous, but not in any way awkward or insulting.
“Well…I have always thought about it while growing up.” answered Bella slowly while thinking about her answer, asking herself the same while answering. “It would help me with a career whatever that may be. I really haven’t decided yet exactly what it is that I want to do. Men have always been dominant when it came to joining but I knew that I could do it. I guess I have no clear cut reason why I chose to do it…I wanted experience in the real world; how things happen that we don’t see here. If it came down to it…I would have to say…realization of the world around me instead of living my life for the rest of my days unaware of what really goes on out there.” Yeah, that`s it, more or less. She thought, mentally shrugging, but hoping he would get the motivation.
Edward couldn’t grasp the idea of her being in the active war overseas, on the other hand, telling her this would not benefit him further with her. He could see that she was very strong- willed…about this especially. To him…she could have just gone traveling to learn more about other cultures and such instead of putting her life at risk, but it was too late to change her mind on this matter so he put it to rest for the time being. He quickly acknowledged her answer then turned the conversation to her relationship with Emmett, her “brother” as both called it jokingly. Was it really just that? He wanted to know, cursing himself for this thought at the same time. This was not his area, Emmett knew her longer than he did – but he had to admit that he would love to hear from her that there was nothing, and never will.
Time flew by; each sentence exchanged made the atmosphere lighter and the feeling of knowing each other for centuries grew easily; they spoke briefly about small things, were happy to learn simple details of daily life, until they reached the restaurant and were seated. They both ordered a meal and drinks and enjoyed it, but were then sitting silently, shyly glancing at each other from time to time.
Bella couldn’t stand the growing silence any longer and began her own line of questioning.
“So are you here in Forks to stay?”
“I have no yes or no answer to that at the moment. I guess I will have to see how this all turns out.” He said with a smile that lunged Bella’s heart into her throat.
She knew exactly what he had meant…their relationship.
“I am leaving in less than a month from now. I will be gone for a year or possibly more – it depends on the situation I suppose.”
“Yes…I know.” Edward said somberly.
The atmosphere turned silent once more. Bella could see that Edward was bothered by something, but wasn’t sure if she should say anything about it. A few moments went by with words unspoken until Edward began with a rushed tone, his body visibly agitated.
“Bella, can we be honest with each other?”
“Yes of course, why? Would you like to ask me something?”
Edward leaned in towards Bella with a deep longing in his eyes, in return Bella did the same.
“Bella, I feel strongly connected to you in a way that I have never felt before.” Edward started while he gently took Bella’s hands in his own, his thumb tracing small circles along her palm absentmindedly. “I know that we just met today, but under the circumstances with you leaving, I thought that maybe we could skip a few steps by getting passed the old clichés of dating to see if this is the real thing or not, so we both do not waste a year wondering if it was the right thing to do.”
Bella was startled by his remarks at first until she realized that he was one hundred percent right about this. If there was to be a serious relationship; why not find out now rather than waiting until it was too late?
“I agree with you Edward…so what do we do now?” She smiled, feeling the comfort from her hands in his, enjoying his warmth and the simple feeling of not being alone.
“Let’s be honest about what we think so far.” Edward tried to express what he felt, a slight frown on his face from thinking that hard.
“Alright, what would you like to say?” asked Bella, curious, her smile growing and filled with her own warmth.
“Do you feel any attraction towards me at all?’
Bella was uncomfortable with the questioning but knew and understood why he asked.
“Yes…yes I do. More than I thought that I ever could towards anyone actually.” She admitted, feeling naked with that statement.
Edward’s smile stretched across his face, his right eyebrow rising in excitement.
“I feel the same way Bella.” He said with relief, his voice now showing confidence.
With the fullest sincerity that he had; he raised his beautiful eyes to meet hers then asked.
“In the small amount of time that we have before you leave, I will do everything that I can to build a relationship with you.”
Her reply was a simple one…”Me too.”
After dinner they walked along the sidewalks of Port Angeles, speaking of what they cherished in life; what they wanted in life; how above all else, having that one person to love was on the top of their list. Almost unaware of getting back to the car and driving home, they arrived back to Charlie’s; he walked her to her front door then with smoldering eyes took her hand into his, feeling her soft skin that made his own tingle; giving a light kiss to the top of her hand. Bella was taken aback by his old school gesture, but to her, she just hoped that this was not a three month romance thing that ends as quickly as it began. She was stunned after he said his Good Nights, a bit surprised that Edward had not kissed her, but happy to no end.
When Bella walked through the door, she expected to see Alice in her face, but to her happy surprise she was asleep on the couch covered with the afghan blanket; no doubt that Charlie had covered her up. Charlie has said for some time now that he had two daughters, Alice loved him the same. Bella snuck up to her room quickly, changing into something comfy, she fell backwards on the bed, feeling like a teenager with the lavender rose in hand. Bella took in a deep breath, inhaling the scent of the rose with a smile creeping across her delicate face with no thoughts except for him. She slept dreamlessly that night, only to wake with a jolt when Alice came screaming through her door.
“Bella Marie Swan! Why the hell did you not wake me up last night? You knew I wanted all of the details missy.” She stood with her arms crossed, meaning nothing but business. Bella jumped up still sleepy, clearing her eyes, just getting the full visual of Alice standing in her usual stance when something did not go her way. Bella giggled to herself, then began explaining what had happened, but in smaller quantities savoring the best parts for herself.
“Alice, sorry but you looked so cute sleeping. I didn’t want to wake you.”
“The date Bella Marie. Spit it out.”
“Okay calm down you little fire ball. The date was…beautiful. He is so perfect…at least I hope he is.” Bella sighed. She was about to go ahead, when she was interrupted by Alice.
“Bella what is that on your bed?” she asked, pointing to the rose.
“Oh - it’s very pretty isn’t it? I thought it was strange that he brought a lavender rose though, most guys would give red roses, right?” She asked just to make sure.
“Bella, Edward gave you a lavender rose?’ Alice said in complete shock.
“Um, yeah, I thought I already said that once?” Bella giggled.
“You have no idea what that lavender rose means, do you?” Alice said with a grin that could have crossed two states.
“Hm, I guess I don’t, but you’re going to tell me aren’t you?”
Bella wasn’t aware that there was a meaning behind roses, but the revelation Alice had made her squirm. She begged Alice to tell her and Alice finally gave in.
“Not only did he give you a lavender rose Bella, but only one of them. A lavender rose means love at first sight and one conveys this message even further.” Alice explained seriously.
Bella was stunned by this, although she too felt the same way. As she sat there, trying to grasp what was happening in her life at the moment, Charlie yelled up the stairs to let Bella know that she had a package that just arrived. Alice was out the door faster than Bella could even think about getting up off of the bed. When Bella finally staggered behind meeting Alice downstairs, she was greeted with twenty four orange roses standing at the bottom of the stairs with Alice beside, smiling.
“Wow! Those are so beautiful. I have never seen orange ones before.” Bella said with awe.
“You wouldn’t, would you?” Alice shot back at her.
“What do you mean Alice?”
“The man knows his roses Bella. I never knew Edward could be so romantic.”
“Alice please get to the point here, I’m going crazy.” Bella rolled her eyes.
“Ok Ok, twenty four represents that he cannot stop thinking about you and orange represents a new found relationship.”
Bella just stood there with her teeth a sparkling white. Her face flushed with a rosy pink, then a deep sigh ejected from her; her body melted right where she stood. Alice looked just as excited as Bella was.
“I wonder what he will send you next.” Alice stated happily.
Hopefully his heart, Bella thought. She hadn´t known how much she cared for Edward knowing that she just met him yesterday, she also couldn’t believe her bad luck at the same time considering that she was leaving soon for the war. Why couldn’t I have met him before I signed up? I would have never even thought about it if I did. I mean I always knew I wanted to go to prove to myself that I could do it but Edward beats that by a mile. I wonder…
“Oh Bella, care to come back down to earth?” Alice asked annoyed.
Bella and Alice left to have breakfast with Emmett, Rose and Jasper. Bella was not aware that Edward was coming along on this outing until he arrived right after Emmett. Bella realized that everyone in the group had known about their growing romance because it was quite obvious when everyone sat accordingly with Edward in mind to sit next to her. “May I?” he asked with a husky voice for the seat beside her. Blushing crimson, she just nodded her ok.
I love the way in which the relationship between Edward and Bella is developing in this story. Very romantic!
Alice is brilliant.
I agree with you. I love how their relationship is blossoming. Alice is very brilliant, lol. Thanks for reading. I'll have more up soon.
Thank you so much. They both realize that their pressed for time, so it works out good this way. I'm happy that no one thought this was the wrong route to go. Oh the roses...There will be more about the roses later. hanks for reading.
