Rosalie; I am voting NO! ..because I wish that there had been someone there to vote no for me!

Bella: "I couldn't believe it I REALLY wanted To Be A Vampire! (PPAW..  Paraphrased As  Always)

Discussion Question, Do you think that: Carlisle's Decision To Convert The Members Of His Coven Into Vampires, Was Driven More By Selfishness Or By Compassion, On His Part ?

Optional counterpoint questions raised by the discussants: If they are of interest to you.:

1.When Carlisle was "changing" Edward do you think that he felt that he was destroying Edward's soul ?

2. Roselie was incoherent and within moments of dying when Carlisle "changed her. Then she spent the next 50 years complaining about not being alowed to die. If she regretted being a vampire so much, why do you think that she didn't force the Volturie to kill her?

3. Esme originally was 16 when she met Carlylr (See Stephie's home page notes) was she too young to have fallen in love with Carlyle then?  Was Carlyle  to "old" to have loved her then?

4. What do you think was Carlisle's overpowering reason to offer to convert, the beautiful healthy Bella, in the prime of her live. A girl he had come to love as his own daughter ?

Your Friend,
Doc B

When I was reviewing this topic, I came across this photo of a high school girl who was Bella's age when she was changed. Apparently it has some obscure relationship  to the saga.

I think by Compassion .

Dear Isabella, You make an excellent point. Carlisle certainly is a very compassionate and "beautiful man. Thank you for sharing that excellent point with us., Doc
Oh! and PS: When Carlisle was "changing" Edward do you think that he felt that he was destroying Edward's soul ?http://www.thetwilightsaga.com/group/theofficialtwilightbookdiscuss... Bella to Edward in the forest "Take MY SOUL, I don't want ti, if it means I can't be with you."

Doc.:When Carlisle was "changing" Edward do you think that he felt that he was destroying Edward's soul ?
Yet another question I cant help but answer...
I think Carlise at the time was keeping a promise.. Edward's, mothers dying wish was for her son to live...and Carlisle would never go back on his word..at the time he probably did think he stole Edwards soul, but later he saw the potential in Edward, he saw Edwards good not his bad because they both shared the same temptations, they both had to battle the same demons..
I don't believe that changing Edward into a vampire should destroy his soul. People are placed in difficult situations throughout their life, no matter which form that takes. It's how we rise to the challenges life throws our way and how we continue to conduct ourselves that counts. Carlisle did not choose to be a vampire, it was forced upon him. He did however, choose to do good for others and help them through his compassionate ways. This is what he did for Edward and he instilled those morals in all of those he did change. That's what's important, when the time comes, he would be allowed to pass into Heaven. I'm not particularly religious but if there is a compassionate God, then of that i am sure of.
I think he is a Doctor and saving lives is what he does. He change Edward becaue Edwards mother ask him to save her son. But we have to remember he was lonely to. He didn't change anyone who wasn't dieing so I would say in his own mind it was compassion. We have to remember that Rose would have rather died but the rest where ok with it. I don't think anyone would want to do it over again, they just dealt with the hand they were giving.

Dear Debbie,
Deb "He is a doctor, " Doc a powerful point. As a physician I lived my life by the principle of always saving lives first. And since I feel that Carlisle always reserved his decision to change only those patients who had no hope of surviving. But he could suffer and lonelyness is very painful. Thank you for sharring your excellent points, Doc http://www.thetwilightsaga.com/group/theofficialtwilightbookdiscuss... Doc.: Rosalie was incoherent and within moments of dying when Carlisle changed her. Then she spent the next 50 years complaining about not being alowed to die.Why do you think that she(Rosalie) didn't force the Volturie to kill her?
I know it's not part of the disscussion but its a question I cant help but answer..
I think the Rosalie hadnt asked the volturie to kill her was because in her heart she was greatfull that the Cullens saved her and she complained after only because she was too proud to say thank you, and also because the way Edward had resented her the first time he saw her...Rose felt insulted because usually men would,so to speak, fall to thier knees at the very sight of her.

Dear Scarlett, What a wonderful response, I think that you must be right. Carlisle, Esme, Edward, Alice, and Emmet are all loving people.. And a key to being a loving person is being able to put other people before yourself. But as your observation points out. Rosalie was raised to have others put her first; Rosalie Quote "Even when I was only 12 years old, when I entered the room EVERY man's eyes were only on me." But Edward wasn't that way he judged women by their inner beauty first. Edward to Alice Quote: She (Bella) has always been dazzlingly beautiful." No wonder Rosalie was so jealous and hateful when Edward was overcome by Bella's "inner" beauty." When her entire ego was built around men's attraction to her outer beauty. Thank you for you EXCELLENT observations. Doc http://www.thetwilightsaga.com/group/theofficialtwilightbookdiscuss...

Good point too.
Dose Kristen or Ashley look more like the "proto-typical" Bella?

Doc, I think the reason Rose didn't go to the Volturie was because 1) When Edward asked " What are we going to do with her? Carrlisle said " That's up to her, of course She may want to go her own way." Rose responded to Bella, I'd believed enough of what he'd told me that his words terrified me. I know that my life was ended, and there was no going back for me. I couldn't stand the thought of being alone..." Then there was when Alice, Edward and Bella got back that Rose told Bella and Edward she was sorry for how she acted. Then told Bella thank you for saving my brothers live. Love is what keep her from going to the Valturie.

My thoughts
Doc, I also left you a question on your page, if you could I really would like your thoughts on the subject.
Thanks for all your comments they make you go back and rethink your own oppion.
