The Twilight Saga

Before Bella jumped off the cliff in New Moon we know that Edward was going to come back "just to check on her".

1. How do you think Edward would handle smelling a werewolf on Bella? (Edward promised she would never see him again, is this "cause" to break that promise)
2. Do you still think that Edward could "walk away" if he knew that Bella was "involved" with a werewolf? (Would it matter if it is a friendship involvement or a romantic involvement?)
--  If he walks away, does he walk away without her ever knowing that he was there?

3. How do you think that Jacob would react to smelling a vampire "near by", with two situations.
a) He would not know it was Edward (because Jacob has never smelled Edward with his "wolf" nose) but just a random vampire.
b) Just for argument, how do you think it would change if Jacob knew it was Edward he was smelling.

** Let me clarify on Bella's side.  She does not know Edward is "around".  I pictured Edward's "visit" probably be in in the middle of the night while she is sleeping.   But he would still be able to smell werewolf on her clothes, and if he happen to be in her house (like when they did homework) then Edward would be able to smell him around the place.

I personally don't remember that part of Midnight Sun either, but I have only read it once so it is possible that I missed it. However I don't know why Bella would have smelled like a wolf in MS. Her only interaction with Jacob (in MS) was the beach and they didn't touch each other so she shouldn't smell.

I do agree with your premise, Edward is extremely over protective of Bella and I really don't think he would handle her smelling life a werewolf very well. However I can't say that he would wake her up in the middle of the night because even though her being around a werewolf is dangerous, but unless Jacob is in her bed, she isn't in danger at the moment.

I do agree that if Edward made the decision to reveal himself, then I don't think he could leave again.

I also agree that I think that Jacob would try to protect Bella. I wonder if Bella would be fearful of this "unknown" vampire that came to visit and be receptive to Jacob's protection or maybe not. Bella can be very stubborn and, except for Victoria, she didn't seem to have a healthy fear of vampires.

I agree that Jacob would do everything he could to keep her away from Edward.

I also agree that Bella would have gotten over Edward. I like how you said "never forget him but gotten pass him". People loose the "love of their lives" every day and I don't want to make light of that pain, and I know that there are some people who are never the same, but there are so many who are able to find real love again. I feel that Bella is a resilient person. She went to the lowest a person can go and still be alive and I really do think that she was healing. Jacob had made a huge transformation in her in only 2-3 months, imagine the possibility that more time would bring.
I think he would have been upset, panicked, interfered, and taken Bella as his girlfriend again. He wouldn't leave again..I don't think he could.
1. i think he'll think it's weird for starters.... thought still her original scent would remain dominant....
so i would say edward would have a reaction but not in a big deal kind of thing....( and yes it would have break his promise.... i think he would have broken his promise anyway.... like he said at that time he was about to give up... beg from bella's acceptance(if needed).....but then rosalie thing came that change everything..
2. well he does have a tremendous self control...
3.a) i think he will recognize edward.... because it was stated some where(i think the jacob story that you gave me--the link) that he could smell with a funky(for the lack of word) perfume that he didn't like so much... and i could only guess that she got that from edward......
b) i think jacob would have ripped him to shred directly if he?(edward) was out if the boarder line.......
because he was angry with him with the bella thing(living bella)
4.
Thanks Mihk I have really enjoyed getting the new perspectives. It is harder for me to wrap my brain around Edward's head so I need help in that area.
ooooh this is juicy isn't it!?

1)Well~ as he had intended for Bella to go on with her life as if he never was in it, he also knew that meant she would turn to Jacob, the other boys at school were never her "type" But I wonder if Edward knew Jacob would become a wolf, which had the animosity in hand all along, but he had no idea that the number of wolves was relative to the number of vampires. But then he did mention that "the boy doesn't know" when dealing with Billy that day, he was sure (mind reading) that Jacob wasnt even aware of the possibility. and Edward having read jacobs mind knew that Jacob would do what ever it took to take his place. He might notice the wolf smell and be completely confused as he did not know that it would be Jake, or any of the other Quilute boys that may have come to Bella's too. He would probably " observe " like he did on the sunny days ( midnight sun ) to see what was going on ...not knowing the anquish Bella was going through untill he saw her awake, and through jacobs thoughts, and having seen her in her sleep he would know she was having nightmares....which adds questions to my mind, what did he do about that, he watched bella sleep for months and she had fairly vivid dreams, talking in her sleep and the constant nightmares she had in Edward's absence...but that is for another question....

2) I think that Edward would observe as much as he could get away with ...to see if she was truly happy with jake. and if he thought that she was he might reluctantly walk away and .or wait for jacob to "hurt' her or..wait for jacob to leave her...when he imprints...reading minds he will learn much earlier of all the "stuff" going on with the pack and the whispering thoughts concerning Bella.
I cant' see him just surrendering and walking away, he would sulk in the shadows for a while, I think he would walk away without talking to Bella because he would know that just seeing her face to face would destroy all the progress she had made...and him as well he would probably loose his resolve, as he was also in misery being away from Bella. getting too close he would loose control in a whole different way, not for her blood but for her love

3) I don't know how far it would go because Jacob would smell Edward and he might be able to pick up on the smell because edwards smell would probably still be in Bella's room for all the time he spent in there and all the things he touched those items being porous and fibrous and not all able to be....thoroughly cleaned enough to rid of his smell, you know how a room or a home has a "certain smell" about it, but the people who live there may be desensitized to it and not pick it up ( often dog smell) but if you are a guest in that home you would pick up on the smell right as you walk in the door... I think it would be similar to that with Edward and even Alice's scents left lingering in Bella's house so Jacob would be able to recognize them.... which leads to New Moon when he was bringing bella home from the Cliff and smelled vampire but wouldn't let her go in cus he didn't know who it was....would perhaps quell that line of thought right there, but there are a lot of inconsistencies in the story line "begining to end" but I don't think it would be surprising to Edward Or to Jacob that the other was around, but Idon't know if edward would associate the wolf smell with jacob or not... I think my answer touches on both parts A and B~

I wonder if Edward and Jacob would have teamed up to fight Victoria...the wolves would for sure stay out of Forks.. I see so many changes in the story line following these considerations.
Good topic!
1. i think Edward could handle it well not that good. He knows that wolves are very dangerous. that's why in Eclipse, he doesn't let Bella go near Jacob.

2. Edward could probably walk away, but in other possibilities, he wouldn't walk away if Bella is involve with a werewolf. if he walks away, probably Bella wouldn't know that he was there all along. or he would stay just to watch out for Bella but Bella shouldn't know that he's there. He would probably live nearby.

3. a) Jacob would be well protective of Bella even though he doesn't know that it's Edward, 'cause he knows that it's a vampire... even a random one. But i guess he'll probably know eventually that it's Edward.

b) if Jacob was sure that it was Edward, then he would probably find a way to lure Bella out somewhere but still keep her safe. since Jacob knew it was Edward then he would do anything for Bella not to see Edward.

if Edward would visit like JJ said, it would be in the middle of the night, so Bella doesn't see him 'cause she's asleep. Edward would surely know that she's with a werewolf bec. he could smell it, he would be worried but as he promised that it's like he never existed and has never touched Bella's life then he could walk away of it. but he's still be worried sick. and he's going to be hurt. :D

by the way, JJ, i like this discussion so much. i like it, really. not lying. :D
1. i think he would start hating himself 4 letting it happen and probably do someting about it

2.no i think he would have 2 go and hav a "talk" with the werewolf

3. i think that jake would react the same way as edward 4 2 people who r so different they really r alike. during new moon if he knew it was edward it would've changed 4 the worse because he's pissed at him 4 breaking bella's heart.
1 , he would be angry but not at her
2 , no, edward could not walk away if he knew she was involved with a werewolf, he might hide, but he'd have to be there
3 , a)he would freak
b) he would freak even more

** he would freak and have to reveal himself to bella to make sure she knew and was okay, then she would freak and they would happilly and awkwardly be all lovey dovey again!!!
1. Well, I think Edward would secretly come to Forks. Staying in the woods, hiding in trees... that sort of thing. He'd probably go check on Bella in the evening, so he can see her walk and talk and see how's she's doing. Of course, every night she's basically at Jacob's. (Not SPENDING the night, just hanging out.) At night, he would smell her, and be really concerned. Then he would kinda stalk her. I think when he finally does see her at home during the day, Jacob would be with her. Edward will probably pick through his thoughts, trying to see what's going on. At first he might freak out by smelling the werewolf, but if you remember in New Moon, Alice smelled them, but wasn't sure what it WAS. So he might just get curious and do a little investigating.

2. Yes. I think he could if he really tried... He would be able to see that Bella was HAPPY. When she was with Jacob, she felt... whole. Edward would be able to see that. I think he would stick around and make sure he doesn't hurt her, though. And if ANYTHING happened to her, he'd probably break Jacob's jaw. I don't think it would matter if it was friendship or a romantic involvement. If it was still friendship, it would obviously be heading in a "romantic" direction. In Eclipse, Bella realizes that she is in love with Jacob. She'd realize that eventually and without Edward there, they would begin... dating, I guess! If he walked away, I don't think Bella would know he's there. I don't think he would want that for her.

3. a) He'd probably tell Bella he smelled it and then pick her up and SPRINT to La Push. (He's probably faster than a car.) He'd to take her to Sam and Em's place and they would try to figure out what's going on. Sam would be able to smell that it was the Cullens, because he was a werewolf while they still lived there. Bella would freak. Jacob would freak. I think Edward would read his thoughts and come talk to the wolves. I'm not sure what Bella would do. But Edward, in the end, would probably leave her again to keep her safe. He probably wouldn't let her see him, just so he doesn't change his mind and decide to stay.
b) The same thing as above, but they wouldn't have to confront Sam about it. They'd just tell him "THE CULLENS ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!!" And then they would go talk to him.

I know it might not happen this way, but I just wish that it was. I want Jacob and Bella to be together. I want Jacob and Bella to be HAPPY. :)
Thank you very much for your thoughts, very nice.

1. I pretty much agree except for when Edward smells her the first time, he would completely freak out. You bring up a great point with Alice not knowing why she smelled so funny, because she was not around when the treaty was made and there were never any wolves with Alice. HOWEVER, Edward was around for the treaty and therefore I think he would know what he was smelling the first time.

2. completely agree.

3. That is a good point that Sam would know what the Cullens smell like, interesting. How would Sam have gotten their smell? Granted he was a wolf when the Cullens were still in town, but I do not think they had any contact otherwise I think the Cullen's would have smelled Sam and know that the "wolves" were back.
1. True. Hmmm.... He'd probably smell her and freak out, but like adMEYERer said, he wouldn't let her see him because it would destory all the progress she'd made. And if Bella DID see him, Edward would probably take her back because she'd be a mess. So he'd stay in the shadows, watching... trying to figure out what's going on. He'd probably read Jacob's mind when he was thinking about the pack and hear him when he was talking to Bella about werewolves.

2. :)

3. Well, they have to know what vampire smell like, right? The Cullens lived near Forks and the Wolves and the Cullens had a treaty. What if Sam was hunting Laurent or Victoria or even a another vampire when the Cullens lived there? He would have to know their scent so he doesn't go chasing after them to kill the Cullens..
That is an interesting point. But the "rules" are so different if the Cullens are there or if the Cullens are away. The whole reason that the wolves were able to go anywhere they wanted was because the Cullens were gone. Once Alice was back THAT dramatically changed what they were able to do.

If Sam was hunting Laurent or Victoria with the Cullens around then the wolves can go anywhere, but they can't kill a Cullen unless the Cullen is on THEIR land. So Laurent/Victoria are fair game and can be killed. The whole reason the wolves waiting to attack Laurent is because they were trying to determine if he were a friend of the Cullens. If he were a friend then they could not attack him. So I assume that the treaty includes the Cullen's friends. Once it was clear the Bella was in danger, then "game on".

Now just with a "what if" if Laurent or Victoria where part of the Cullens. Then everyone would be fair game because the treaty would be broken.
