Hi doc! It's a great discussion:)

1) Edward was numb for a very long time, and having Bella in his life had sparked his life. For so long his has no important reason to live, and with Bella in the picture, he found love, and he found his reason. When Edward fell in love with Bella, he became human, vampires are immune to emotions, but humans are 'posessed' by feelings. Edward felt jealousy, a feeling of possession, protectiveness towards Bella. Edward was gentle, something that most vampires are not. And Edward was on an emotional rollercoaster all the time, proved enough to me that he is turning human, literally....

ECQ: I don't think that would ever be enough for her. Sure, it might be at that time, but years passed by, and Bella meets a guy who could actually give her one thing Edward couldn't, what's with her hormonal changes, even though if Bella kept denying her desire, she will have that moment of doubt:)

Thank you for your compliment. I think that it is an interesting topic. Edward of course says, "I wish that you could feel (or sense) ALL of the different emotions, that I am starting to feel" (PP)
You say "No reason to live !" What a wonderful point. Having a reason to live is what gives our lives meaning.

What a wonderful point. I agree when Bella exploded into his life everything changed. I don't think Edward had even sorted out WHAT exactly his future held. BUT NOW SUDDENLY HIS LIFE HAD A FUTURE.
And I totally agree, his love for Bella, was starting to turn Edward human. He was turning into the wonderful man, he had always been intended to be.

You make an interesting observation at the END, about if "IT"would be enough. It will be interesting to see what all of the other Roses have to say.

A "Bear time" story:

Honey and my first dog was a Boston Terrier named Baby Dog.

And although Baby had his own yard to play in, he was so lonely that he started chewing his own feet. And then he went into a deep depression. Then Honey and I brought home, a new Boston terrier. His name was "Rascal Dog. Well with in 10 minutes those two little Bull Dogs started having a pulling match over which one would get one of my socks. At the end of the first day Babby looked at me as if to say: TOMARROW I am going to get that SOCK!! They played together every day for the next 8 years.

Each one had given the other one a reason to live. Watching them play and love each other always brought a smile to my face. Even if, from that day on I could never find a non STRECHED sock.
I am certain that the good Lord delightes watching them play in heaven, even if his socks are never the same size anymore.

What do you think were SOME of the feelings that Edward's love for Bella allowed him to start experiencing? Besides the physical attraction he started to feel towards her, I think Edward was constantly worrying about whether he would keep Bella's interest with out ever being able to have sex with her. I'm sure he was constantly worrying about if holding each other would be enough for her in the long run.

She is such a liar. There is no way she could know for a fact that it would be enough. She was young, inexperienced & head over heals for him. She was so blinded by love when she made that statement. She should have said "this is enough... for now".
If she was telling the truth, then she wouldn't have compromised
with the sex for marriage bargain they made each other later.

Not that I blame her. Who could resist Edward for long?

It's too bad this series was edited for pre-teens. I would have loved to have read more action in it. ; )

You end with "It's too bad ..we can't go in depth in this discussion. (PP) I read a wonderful study once that said that almost 20 percent of women would prefer "Kissing" all night.

Which reminds me of when Robert Pattison said "During my interview, the director (Harwick) set up a camera and just had Kristen and I kiss for what seemed like two hours, as she filmed us. At one point one of us even fell off the bed.

My question: How much money do you think you could get on the Internet for a filmed two hour kissing marathon between Robert and Kristen?

You say "Liar, Liar, Knickers on fire!! Like you I think that Bella might have said that "This is enough!" then. BUT I think that (like you) later, she might well have changed her mind.

Just out of interest which do you think would be a greater sacrifice? That the loss of never having children, or the loss of not being "fully intimate." You couldn't adopt children because of Uncle Jasper.

Uncle Jasper, LOL I can't really picture him as an uncle.

Never having children. To me that would be a much bigger loss than never being intimate. The fact that I am a woman, I think I can answer that a lot easier than if I were a man though. : )

White Rose Discussion Question: What do you think were SOME of the feelings that Edward's love for Bella allowed him to start experiencing?

To me it seemed like Edward was starting to feel like he wasn't alone in the world after all, He could have what the rest of his family has,.. a lover, friend, wife, companion. He had been around other female's before and never did he feel the way about them as he was starting to feel for Bella. He was feeling that if for some reason he was not able to be around her then he would die or at least want to die. He wanted to know what it was like to be human for the second time in his long life. To try to remember those experiences.
Given the era he was raised in, not alot took place back then...He wasn't interested in the girls back then either, he was interested in becoming a soldier. In today's age everything is available to you..Edwards only true interest until Bella came around was fast cars. When Edward got to show Bella the simple things in life such as his meadow, he found he could enjoy it thru a new set of eyes. Running thru the woods was showing off but he was joyous that he got to finally share it with someone. He thought his money would be a impressive thing to Bella, but he was wrong, she was intimadated by it. So he learned to give her hand-me-down items. Bella was a puzzle that Edward was slowly starting to solve. He would feel confused, frustrated, annoyed, happy, sad, mad and loved at Bella at times but that is how a relationship starts and works. If you feel nothing then you shouldnt be with that person.

Extra Credit Question: On page 278 of the novel "Twilight" Edward explains to Bella that 'if they stay together" for the rest of her life, the extent of their physical intimacy could very well never advance past the point of their being able to hold each other in their arms. In a spur of the moment responds, Bell rests her cheek against his chest and says: "This is enough!"
BUT....... Knowing that in the future that Bella would also have had the chance to love the physically beautiful caring Jacob. And that if she unites with JAcob, she would also have the ability to raise a beautiful human family......
Extra credit question: Do you think that, "THAT" would have remained ENOUGH?

I would like to think that THAT would have been enough. Bella loved Edward with everything that she had. She didn't feel like she was losing anything because she never knew what she could have lost before. Edward was her first and last boyfriend. What ever he was willing to give her was enough for her. She was happiest when she was with Edward. Edward was just as curious about sexual aspects as well, but terrified to try. Bella would have gotten her way in the end like we know she did...Edward always gives Bella whatever she wants. He was even willing to give her the things she didnt know that she would want such as a family. that was why he left in New Moon to give her a life without vampires and the dangers that come with it. But he learned the hard way he couldnt survive without her. The conversation that took place in the tent between Edward and Jacob is proof that Edward loves Bella and was willing to give her the world. A child with anybody she would have wanted and he still would have loved her.

Jacob would have been just something to settle for, to make others happy, including Jacob. Bella could never fully love Jacob the way she loved Edward. Jacob was learning that but was still pig headed enough and young enough to think he could change her. Jacob would have been patient, would have waited until Bella finally gave in, but it would have only happened if Edward was out of the picture for years. Given Jacob the time to try and change how her heart felt.

I always thought that Edward's comment quite literally was his sexual awakening. He had spent years alone, observing the thoughts and actions of other people's intimacies, but never felt desire himself. Bella awakened in him, among many things, like love, sexual HUNGER, desire to unite as one with her physically. Bella's laughing response of" isn't is always this way" seems to refer to the first love aspects of things. No, I don't know that it would have been enough always for Bella to have a non-physical relationship, but I think she would have given it her all, when faced with the alternative of not having him at all. Her heartbreak and misery over that would have been (and was during NM) much to hard to bear. In the end, I suppose the point is moot, b/c Bella, for all her people pleasing ways, was DETERMINED to become a vampire, thus eliminating the physical problem all together. Yes, also, it was a true testament to Edward's love for Bella that he was willing to let her have children w anyone if she wanted kids (Jake for goodness sakes!!!) and yes, Bella could have had a contented life with Jake, but he really was not her soul mate,her truest most passionate love. All said, I STILL do not like the Jake/Renesmee pairing though!!

You say "He felt as if he wasn't alone, for the first time. WOW! What a powerful observation. Remember that tragic movie where Tom Hank's character is so miserable about being alone, that he took a ball and used his own blood to try and paint a face on it, just so that he would have "something to talk to!"

Yes, yes, yes "not being alone must have been an OVERWHELMING feeling.EC,Q: I wish that you could sense ...many feelings"
Also you make a great point about the fact that Edward "CLICKED" with Bella. He was a normal healthy male, but he just hadn't clicked with any other women (FOR A HUNDRED YEARS) And the POW!! You say "He wanted to know how it felt to feel human again" Wonderful: One home run observation after another.

You say "The Joy of sharing the things he loves. And being able to see it through her eyes. Wonderful As Jung would say "The only way we can realy see ourselves, and THE THINGS WE LOVE is through the eyes of OTHERS!!. The joy of solving the puzzle that was Bella. One he would have the joy of figuring out for a life time.

I agree with you about "Enough" As soon as Bella heard the words EC, Q: "It gets easier all the time!" Bella would have never given up on working on the project that eventually they could have expressed their love for each other physically.

White Rose Discussion Question: What do you think were SOME of the feelings that Edward's love for Bella allowed him to start experiencing?: As stated by edward himself, jealousy was 1 of the first "Real human emotions" he started experiencing. This he admitted too. However, im not sure if from a psyc point of view if jealousy is considered an emotion. Now, THE FIRST emotion he experienced definitly was the love in itself, because love is an emotion. It is this love that lead led to the secondary "feelings" of jealousy, possessiveness and too a certain extent the obsession.

I think this relationship awakened intense emotions in both Bella and Edward. It was both of their's first time inlove. Also the emotion of love brought to the fore the physical aspect of that love, aka, LUST. This too was new to both Bella and Edward. So therefor i think these emotions were experienced not only by Edward but by Bella too.

Doc, Im not sure what "THAT" u r referring to here so im going with what i'm assuming it to be:
To be quite honest, personally i dont think holding hands with my loved 1 would ever be enough for myself. When we fall inlove, i mean really,a i-would-move-a-mountain-for-u kind of love we can be anything and everything to our partner. So, for this reason alone i would say that's why Bella made that statement. This, however, was before she experienced the physics of lust.
Becoming intimate is the next natural step in a lasting relationship so this is another reason i think "THAT" would not have been enough for Bella. Being human, its a part of sexual nature to want to move to that next level with your partner and we see in BD, Bella enjoyed this physical aspect of their relationship she was even willing to remain human for longer. Taking all this into consideration my final answer would have to be an EMPHATIC NO! it would never have remained enough for Bella

After so many decades of being alone and not ever experiencing intimacies or strong relationships with anyone either, and for him to feel all those feelings at once it's woken the human part of him that has been hidden deep for a very long time. He's right know feeling passionate urges his nevered experience and at the same time he knows that he has to be very gentle with Bella when kissing, carressing even holding her because if for one moment he's careless he could hurt Bella even accidentaly kill her. Edward is having all this sexual desires, to which he knows if lets go of his control of himself to her she'll get hurt. So not only is Edward at that moment having to feel for the first time passionate and sexual desires towards Bella he also knows that he has to be very carefull that he doesn't hurt either. ECQ: I don't think it would've been enough on neither side, at one point in her relationship with Edward she going to want that their relationship to advance to the next step which in Edward's mind is very dangerous for her. Now if she went and chosen Jacob it wouldn't be much of a relationship because she would crave Edwards company always she knows thats her soulmate and she says that she's overly obsessed she is with him. So in one she can't have a complete relationship and the other it's not enough either when she so obsessed with other, so no not enough.

I think the major one is just that...LOVE. Edward even in his human life never felt love for a woman other than his mother. Jealousy is another, feeling like he could lose the new found light in his world. Edward was described as being "frozen" Bella's love warmed him and he began to have some more human wants, also. I am sure like any male he wanted to "become one" with Bella. He had only felt thirst for humans, not affection.

No it don't, she was always trying to seduce him, though out the Saga. Edwards will was strong enough thou, I think that it was going to happen no matter what, after marriage, of course!!
