What Could Edward Have Done To Help Him Acclimate To Bella's Aroma ? OR: What Advice Would You Have Given Edward To Help Him Solve His Dilemma?"

Introduction: To celebrate our two hundredth White Rose Discussion, I thought that we might just have a little fun, and try and solve an unusual problem.

Edward explained to Bella (in the novel "Twilight") that the more he was away from her, the harder it was for him to resist killing her when they reunited. And that having been away from her "Aroma" made it's attraction all that more alureing.

White Rose Discussion Question: What advice would you have given Edward to help decrease "the pull he had to kill Bella" Especially when he had been away from her for a while?

Extra Credit Introduction:  As she listens to Edward playing the beautiful piano concherto  "Bella's melody," (Knowing that he had composed it out of his love for her) she starts crying.

Edward then placed a finger on her cheek, collected one of her tears, and then "lightening fast"  tasted it.

Extra Credit question: WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?

As always we sincerely look forward to learning you opinions.

   Your friend, Doc B

A "Bear Time" Story
The Actor, Moyer, (who plays Vampire Bill) says that when he vacationed with Paquin in Hawaii  ( the actress who plays the farry named Sookie on the TV series "True Blood")  that he was inspired to ask her to marry him after listening to the song "White Sands" by the great IZ.

Interestingly " there is also a song that Honey and I have always delighted in by IZ. It is called  "Rainbow." Izreal (AKA, IZ)  loved to eat Poi. (The principle food sourse of the anchient native Hawaians) And when it came to sports he was a wold class water floater. Mastering the art of (not unlike Edward) laying perfectly still. .

He use to tell all those that loved him  "Don't mourn at my funeral. Bur rather REJOICE, for finally "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" I will be singing with and not to my master."
And so, with tears in their eyes, when that day finally came, they "rejoyced" and dis as "Their IZ" had asked them.

And so just for you, one last time  "Rainbow by "now your" IZ.

When asked how he kept from feeling "blue" about his disability: The IZ said "I just hum "It's a Wonderful World" to myself." Not bad advice. Not bad at all.

And when "The IZ" was informed that his native Hawaiian language was disapearing, IZ simply said "I have a secrete way of not letting that happen."

Hmmm good discussion. I will have to get back to that when I have more time to think. :)
Hi Doc,

White Rose Discussion Question: What advice would you have given Edward to help decrease "the pull he had to kill Bella" Especially when he had been away from her for a while?

I don't think I could have told him to do anything different than what he was already doing...He was taking every precaution he could think of, he fed more than he needed too, he was with her while she slept breathing in her scent. They were together at school. He spent as much time with her as was possible. He controled the kissing. He wouldnt let himself get carried away with her. To have been able to leave when he had that first class with her says something about Edward's self control, about his strength.

Extra Credit question: WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?

Well I guess if your resisting tasting Bell'a blood then a tear is the next best thing. Maybe he wanted to see if a tear would hurt him. If he eats real food like a human would, he has to vomit it back up later, but a single tear was different, it was fluid and a little salty. Honestly Doc I don't know what that was all about except he was curious.

Just my thoughts
Fran

Dear Fran,

You make a great point. Edward showed amazine strength in the class room. Bella later said (after they had grown very close) "You could never hurt me. Do you think that, that was possable and that, that was true from the start?

I think that he was curious about the tear. To me he took a big risk, human tears are similar to blood in so many ways.. But he got away with it. So good for him.
Thank you for sharing.

Doc,
For your extra credit, Yes it was very true from the start...I was just starting to re-read Midnight Sun again...So here is why I think that. The Day Edward first see's Bella in the cafeteria and she is talking to Jessica, Edward is listening to Jessica's thoughts and is surprised to find himself wanting to shield Bella from the very thoughts Jessica was thinking. Bella had asked who the Cullens were, and Jessica was thinking that Bella didnt have a chance with any of them.
Also when all that Bella had got for lunch the day he returned was just a soda, Edward had worried about Bella's health.
In class when the teacher referred to her as Isabella, Edward set him straight by saying Bella.

Granted these are all smalls little things that I notice but to me, this is how everything had starting for their relationship. They were both VERY perceptive of each other and didnt even know it.

Also He did save her when Tyler's truck was going to smoosh her. Edward only thought NO not her. He didnt take in to account the effect it would have had if they had been exposed, he just wanted Bella to not get hurt.

Just my thoughts Doc, hope you enjoy them.
Fran.
What advice would you have given Edward to help decrease "the pull he had to kill Bella" Especially when he had been away from her for a while?

> I think Edward was doing all he could. Those earlier days of their relationship, his ambivalence was really making things really hard for him. For me, I would've told him to have one of Bella's things like her shirt perhaps? Something with a concentrated dose of Bella's scent to autoimmune him further. He was being precautious so no need to bring forth that one. And oh! He should always remember that the girl he longed to kill was the love of his existense. =)

As she listens to Edward playing the beautiful piano concherto "Bella's melody," (Knowing that he had composed it out of his love for her) she starts crying.
Edward then placed a finger on her cheek, collected one of her tears, and then "lightening fast" tasted it.
WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?

>Honestly? I'm still trying to figure that out after reading the saga like hundred times. My best shot was that he thought it would be the next best thing to her blood. And as always, his curiousity got the best of him... =)

Love lots,

From Change of Heart:

Good day!

What advice would you have given Edward to help him decrease "the pull he had to kill Bella" Especially when he has been away from her for a while?
For me it's like a person suffering from withdrawal, in Edward's case it's physical involvement. The more he resist the more it lingers in his thoughts.A separation from Bella only make things worst for him in Twilight.

What was that all about?
I find that act of him as sweet, maybe Edward is also touched like Bella. Bella shed a tear of love for him, Right now I don't have any logical explanation for this one. I post a follow up reply.

Dear Change of Heart:
You make a perfect point. I agree I think that for Edward Bella was both a physical and a psycological addiction. Bella shed a tear of love for him. Beautiful.
Thank you, as always, for sharring with us,

He has her aroma all over him and in his car, as long that her aroma lingers he should stay where it's strongest and get use to it make it so that is second nature to you. So that her aroma is from that someone you can't live without and don't wish to hurt. The tear tasting well Fran said it best is the next best thing to Bella's blood that he could taste, it also made him happy that she liked the concherto he compose for her.
Manuel,
great point about her scent being on him and the car.It was also on his Jacket from the ride back from Port Angeles....Plus don't forget he would sneak in her bedroom window at night to watch her sleep.
Dear Manuel,
You make a great point. Sent was important to both of them. We remember how Bella's sent, almost overpowered Edward. But (as in the Bella Cafe, when Bella almost swooned as she was engulfed by Edward's sent, when he wrapped his coat around her) Edward's sent was a powerful aphrodisiac to Bella as well.
Thanks for sharing, Your friend, Doc
Wow! The two hundredth discussion!! We're making a record, aren't we? Anyway I have something to suggest Edward for his blood problem: Why didn't he asked Carlisle to make Bella a withdrawal?! So he could have had her blood without killing her!! And the problem's solved! ( :D Okay, I was joking! Don't take me seriously!) Thankyou Doc for all this lovely discussions, and for make me discover such a singer as IZ! He's wonderful! :)
What Could Edward Have Done To Help Him Acclimate To Bella's Aroma ? OR: What Advice Would You Have Given Edward To Help Him Solve His Dilemma?"

I think Edward did everthing possible. He tried to be around Bella as much as possible to always have her scent near him.

WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?

Maybe just a taste of Bella to help that craving. No I wonder if he was just very curious, He never was "close" to humans and wondered what a tear would feel like and taste like.
Just for the fun of it: My response

Dear Doc,
Odd situations are just the kind of problems I use to have to deal with as a reconstructive surgeon all of the time. After interviewing Bella and Edward TOGETHER about their "problem." I would have had THEM buy a big stack of large T-shirts.

Ones that Edward would feel comfortable wearing to school as either an undershirt or a top shirt. Then I would have Bella keep all of them. And I would have had her wear them as tops for her pajamas.

After she had worn them I would have her put them in a sealed plastic bag, and give to Edward to wear during the day. That way he would be surrounded in her sent 24 hours a day. Which would constantly be de-sensitizing him. Then he could clean them and return them to Bella. The problem for Bella (I think) would be that since she adores his sent so much. Would she want him to wash them, or would she want to wear them herself? (problems problems).

When we sleep we don't perspire very much so consequently the shirts would be relatively clean.

ECQ:
1. If the situations were reversed (and you were dating Edward) would you be willing to wear his t-shirts at night for him?
2. Just out of interest since Vampiric aroma is not only, not offensive to humans but rather is perceived as a perfume, would you wash that shirt he wore..Or would you wear it "Ode De' Edward?

Inquiring minds need to know!!
