Why Was Edward Cullen Frozen? Carlisle, Esme, Alice and the others weren’t. So WHY was he? Introduction: Edward was “frozen” soon after he became a vampire. But Why?
Edward’s “for all intensive purposes” father, Dr. Cullen was a much loved resident of Forks. And he was anything but “frozen.' [ Jacob Black, quote: “We (the Werewolves) are supposed to protect the humans in Forks from the Vampires, but Dr. Cullen is more human (compassionate) than anyone in Forks! (PP)] Dr. Cullen walks through his staff in the Emergency Room, looking for Bella, and addresses Charlie as a friend: “I heard that Chief Swan’s daughter was down here.”
Esme wasn’t “frozen.” Esme to Bella quote: “It was hard, after I lost my baby, but then I got to have my new family.” (PP) Alice to Jasper, quote: “It helps (to keep from eating the children at the school) if you think of them as humans. That girl’s (the one Jasper so desperately wanted to eat) mother was the one who invited Esme to her garden club! Esme had so "moved on" that she even had human friends, and they cared enough of her to even invite her to their Garden club! Stephanie Meyers said in an interview, “Writing ‘Twilight’ was taking up so much of my time, that I even had to give up going to my scrap book club.” And on, and on, all of the Cullen’s had moved on to differing degrees, except for Edward. But Edward remained “frozen” Why was that?

I think Edward was frozen because he didn't have anything interesting in his life when Bella came he new ahe was the love of his life and he had a job to do (protect) Bella just made his life interesting

I don't really understand what you mean by Edward was the only one 'frozen' although I think you tried explaining it up there but if you mean age wise then all of them were. Not only them but all vampires. They mite have existed for how ever many hundreds of years BUT they remain the age of which they were when they were transformed. If you mean something else besides age wise then let me know and try to get to understand where you're coming from :)

I feel that Edward was "frozen" because he believed he was in essence, a soulless monster. He despised what he had become.
Each of the other characters had something to motivate them to move on, to be more compassionate. Made worse for Edward by the conflict that he wanted to be with Bella forever though he couldn't damn her to the same fate as him. I think that his character began to change (defrost if you will haha) the more he allowed himself to love Bella. -

He thought of himself as a monster and not worthy of love. It wasn't until he fell in love with Bella that he "unfroze". The rest of the Cullen's already had love. I think that is the big difference in them. He says in Eclipse that it is rare for them to experience change but when they do it is complete and undeniable. That is what his love for Bella did for him. It changed him completely and irreversibly. He would never be the same after that.

When he was in the meadow with Bella and he said "I wish that you could feel some of the sensations that I am" That part of what he was feeling was a return of his humanity? Thank you for sharing Doc

Hi Doc.
To me the reason Edward was frozen was because he hadn't found his soul mate, his other half to complete him yet. He didn't realize he was missing anything in his life, he was still doing the things he loved such as, composing music, reading books, getting degrees in the fields of his choice. Learning all sorts of launguages. He had his vampire family and vampire friends to keep him company, and he loved them, but he didn't know what true love was yet. Granted he had females make advances toward him like Tanya, but he never harbored feelings for her in that way or anyone else for that matter including Rosalie that was meant for him to be his mate. When he met Bella his life was never and would never be the same, she helped him to thaw by loving him, by accepting him for what and who he was. He was able to feel again all the emotions he had thought he had lost when he was turned. He felt true love for the first time as well as jealousy, irratation, compassion, as well as male urges toward a female, ( ok i will say it, he felt horny). The more time he spends with Bella the more he thaws and the more he feels.
As for the others, Carlisle knew what he was, and knew what he didn't want to be. So he took what he was given and did the best he could with it, he became a doctor. He wanted to give life not take it away. Alice didn't know anything of what she was missing. She saw Jasper in a vision and started a new life with him. Jasper only knew what Maria had told him and he had no reason to believe otherwise, Until Peter came back and said they was another way to live without all the violence. Rosalie was content with who she was because she was beautiful, and eventually found Emment. Emment was grateful that he was saved from that attack and got to be with the most beautiful girl in the world to him. Esme, well she missing the baby that died but has compinsated quite well with the others as her children, she feels her life is missing nothing now. Her only regret was that Edward was alone without a mate. But Bella changed all that.
