The following addition will be made to the Site Guidelines on June 22, 2011:
17. TheTwilightSaga.com is the home for fans of the Twilight Saga novels and movies online. The content of the site – its discussions, its groups, its members – should primarily be focused on The Twilight Saga. The Site Rules stipulate the criteria by which content on the site will be maintained and any content that does meet these criteria will be deleted.
The following changes will be made to the Site Rules on June 22, 2011:
5. All TheTwilightsaga.com users should be active members in the community. Therefore to keep the site active and manageable:
a) GROUPS: all groups that have fewer than 50 members or have not been active for 3 months will be closed.
b) USERS: any memberships inactive for over 6 months may be deleted. To save your account all you have to do is log in here.
c) DISCUSSIONS: all discussion threads that have been inactive for 3 weeks or more may be removed.
6. TheTwilightSaga.com was designed to be a home all things Twilight! Discussions and groups related to Twilight or closely-related subjects are strongly encouraged. And while we appreciate that you are also fans of other things (like the many and varied works of Aaron Spelling? Seriously?) to keep the site focused and manageable groups not related in some reasonable way to the Twilight Saga will be closed.

Comment by Habibah A. on June 18, 2011 at 1:44pm that's just stupid !!!! ok , it is a twilight site , BUT that doesn't mean that that's the only thing we should be talking about , it's not fair to delete all the non twilight related groups , people worked hard for those groups and u can't just delete it !!!!!! it's not fair , what if we want to talk about things other than twilight ??? huh???? what are you going to do about it ???? I'm sorry but that was my opinion , and you should at least do a vote or something , let us have a word in this , if you delete all the non twilight related groups , then you'll be deleting half of the groups , and the site will be boring and everybody will leave ... it's just not fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment by ∆the revolution;;-™ on June 18, 2011 at 5:14am Plenty of the off-topic groups and such have a nice base. Like, for example, the Role Play Retry group. After the first group was deleted due to the rules, many left. If you delete a group with so much hard work put into it [ thousand of members, discussions, replies, and ideas ] that will possibly be another 4000-something people gone.
Yes, this is a Twilight site. Yes, we all came here for Twilight. But some of us have grown up a little and like to role play. Does this mean that we won't have the RPR group? And does this mean that we won't be able to have non-Twilight based role plays?
If it means that I can't rp with discussions not related to Twilight, I will probably leave.
Comment by Carolyn on June 18, 2011 at 2:09am I think that if the off-topic discussions and groups were to be deleted, then how would anyone find out about other fantastic books that they would otherwise not know about.
I also think that some of the authors of other YA, paranormal, urban fantasy etc books should step up and have a say about this. If it wasn't for this site I personally would never have known about such series as The Mortal Instruments, Wicked Lovely, Wolves of Mercy Falls, Evernight, Black Dagger Brotherhood and the list goes on and on and on.
Isn't this site run by Hachette Book Group, a publishing company. they should be encouraging members of this site to read books whether they are books put out by their company or by another one.
Please use some common sense in this matter and leave the most of the groups alone no matter how many members they have.
I am truly sad to read some of these comments, from both sides.
I was thrilled to find a site where others felt as I do about Twilight.
But then the first group I entered started saying that discussion weren't really right in some way.
So I left that group, and found another, which I am very proud of.
We do discuss Twilight, mabe not as often as in the beggining, but it was what brought us all together, and don't think we will ever forget it. Twilight brought many back to reading once again,(for me it had been at least 10 years, maybe more). So thank you Ms. SM for that. Thank you for all the wonderfull characters who brought us back to life.
Now if I am understanding correctly, we are not to discuss topics other than Twilight, no W4E,HP,Cosmopolis,RM,other series we may be interested in, or other books not related to Twilight. We are not to admire the other works of the stars in Twilight, nor discuss them. If this is so, it is much sadder than I thought. It was not only the books that brought us together, but the movies, and the actors. How disgracefull to shun them after all the joy they have brought us.
I do hope all things will be re-considered in this matter.
Thank you.
Comment by ΞSadness is a BlessingΞ on June 17, 2011 at 5:26pm As much as I respect your opinions on this issue, I do not believe it is a good idea. I know that I have no say and that it is up to you, but many people on this site are Twilight fans and have conversations about the books of movies. In my opinion, this website is not only just about showing your own love on the subject but meeting other people who know what Twilight is and respect it. I love to meet new people and discuss, not only Twilight, but many types of books and movies and other activities. Many people like to make their own stories and the only way they can express them is by making the characters on this website and why would you ever take that away from them? Many people's inspiration for their own stories comes from the Twilight saga and if you delete them then they will loose a place where they feel they can be themselves. I would really appreciate it if you would reconsider.
With appreciation,
Nikki

Comment by Carolyn on June 17, 2011 at 11:05am I am very sad to have read this tonight as I have met some absolutely fantastic friends through this site and have read some really great books that I would never have read if not recommended by these new friends.
I think that if a group hasn't been used in maybe 6 months or has no book discussions on it what-so-ever then yes it should be deleted. I do not agree with getting rid of a group if it has less than 50 members. A lot of these groups have small number of members for a reason. Perhaps the MODS should consult the creators of all groups prior to deleting them.
And really, how much more can anyone talk about Twilight that hasn't already been said. I mean apart from new readers of the series, most of us have talked it to death. And as Kaysi said, once BD pt2 comes out next year, there won't be anything else left to talk about anyway.
Some of the groups may have strange or interesting names but when you go into them, a lot of them are still discussing books and some Twilight related stuff.
Please don't get rid of the non-topic groups and discussions. You will have almost no groups and discussions left on here and most people will leave anyway.
Comment by Arjita on June 17, 2011 at 10:23am The off-topic section has the most number of discussions on this site, and it doesn't seem right to delete it. There is only so much we can talk about Twilight. There shouldn't be off topic stuff in the Twilight section, but I don't see any harm in continuing the present off topic section.
This new rule is ridiculous.
Comment by Kaysi on June 17, 2011 at 10:02am Okay, I have not read through the comments here, so I apologise for any repeats. This is my opinion and my opinion only. I intend no offence to anyone and I certainly mean for this to be within the guidelines and I do not intend to be seen as “soliciting”. Oh, and yes, this was copied from another thread as well - but since I am the author, I am allowed to copy it :)
So, one would have to assume since off-topic is actually off the only topic allowed, it would be removed? Maybe not straight away, but soon enough.... if it’s not, the mods are not following their own guidelines. It just doesn’t seem right to not have off-topic – so many members use it, some only use that section.
I also assume that threads and discussion about The Host will be deleted too then??? Once again, they are not Twilight related.
The way I see it, the site will lose a lot of members. Let’s face it, a lot of people have moved from Twilight related groups and discussions because they are over talking about it (repeatedly). And also, another fact I think the mods must face - most of the people who have moved into off-topic discussions and other groups are those who are perceived as most “argumentative” with those who are still in the "Twilight zone" (for a lack of better terms). I am not saying that they are – I am just saying that to new or passionate fans, those with strong opposing opinions can seem that way. I do not say that as an insult to anyone, and I can honestly say that I am one of those people that can be viewed as “passionately opposed” or “argumentative” (I know, you are shocked right) (And yes, I do like Twilight, but I do see what I perceive as flaws, and not everyone agrees). Long term members have said their piece over and over again, and a lot of their opinions have changed about the Twilight Saga over the months or years they have been talking about it – often causing them to be viewed as anti's, argumentative, disruptive or the likes. Do the mods want those types of conversations starting up again? That is the only outcome I can see from keeping all conversations Twilight related. Oh, and lots more "Edward is better" and "Jacob is hotter" type of discussions.
Although, if SM would give us new Twilight stuff to discuss........
The other thing is.... many people started out reading Twilight - then moved onto other books.... so, since their new-found fondness of reading was sparked from Twilight, does that mean any group or conversation about another book is therefore Twilight related?? I know, big stretch there, but why punish those who have come to love the written word from their initial passion of Twilight?
Also, after BD part 2 comes out - what is left to discuss??? Only new fans will be able to discuss things... and then they will leave when they become bored talking about it. Seems like a slow suicide of the site to me. Have a look at the "long term members" - how many of those are actively participating in Twilight discussions???
And speaking of the movies, what will happen to threads like TopazEyes’ “The Breaking Dawn Official Stuff Thread!” Now, as we all know, the official “treats” from the movies are few and far between – so this, or a discussion similar may not be “active” for large periods of time, but are not only Twilight related but, I think, are valuable to the fans. But because they may not be active for some time, to no fault of OP or fans, they may be deleted? After all that hard work put in? That doesn’t seem fair.
I do agree with deleting actual inactive accounts or even discussions and groups - but I certainly think those timeframes should be reviewed (as well as other guidelines).
Comment by Kristina on June 17, 2011 at 9:50am Yes but the problem there is that people will continue just add random, non-substance comments in serious book discussion. In a lot of these discussions myself and friends are involved in you don't want to loose thought provoking comments behind random comments (that we now have to add to keep a thread 'active')
If the group is active that should be enough!
Again though it's still very sad for small but still important to the people that have participated it them groups!
Reading and making discussion groups about other Y.A books that even Ms Meyer's may have even liked or recommended (Twilight Saga having rejuvenated peoples love for books) is just a progression of the Twilight Saga's.
And hey what ever happened to coming on here chatting and having harmless fun with friends you have met through this site as a release and escape from the pressures of our real lives!!!!

Comment by Kristina on June 17, 2011 at 7:31am Could someone please explain c) DISCUSSIONS: all discussion threads that have been inactive for 3 weeks or more may be removed.
I don't believe discussions should be deleted from groups, just because someone hasn't commented on it in a matter of a month, inactivity in a month doesn't mean what people have contributed isn't interesting for people to read in the future.
