- 1. i am very obsessed with twilight, but i just hide it because people make fun of me. lol
2. New moon is one of my favorite books in the saga. many people would disagree.

Yes, Edward COULD read Charlie's mind. BUT it was hard for him. EC to BS: "Your father's mind is hard for me to read." (it seems cloudy) So while he was able to read Charlie's thoughts, the process was tougher for him. Consequently Bella's shielding had to have been a genetic gift that she got from her father. For some reason it was only partially expressed in Charlie and fully expressed in Bella. My theory was that both Charlie and Renee (being from Forks, the supernatural center of the world BS Q: "Alice: Is EVERYTHING that we thought supernatural really true?") for some reason, both had partial shielding. So when they mated they produced a fully shielded child.
