Jen commented on Doc B M.D.'s blog post Associate Press Story: Edward Cullen, "A Repeat Female Abuser !" (Do You Agree ?)
"I agree with you guys. I never once thought Edward was being abusive when reading the books. I thought he had typical controlling/jealousy type issues at times, but they seemed reasonable for his personality and the circumstances they were in at the…"

Jen replied to Alias's discussion "Do you really think hurting her is better than protecting her?" in the group The Official Twilight Book Discussion
"I agree that Bella would want to know. She indicates this when she writes, "You will tell me next time." Not many people like being treated like they can't handle information. She has made brave/rash decisions in the past, so I can…"

Jen replied to Alias's discussion Edward and Bella's Vampire Human relationship vs their Vampire Vampire relationship!!!!!!!! in the group The Official Twilight Book Discussion
"I would like to believe that Bella and Edward would have fallen in love had they both already been vampires, but I think the story would have been much less interesting. I think the journey from one to the other is a major part of what makes their…"

Profile Information

Five Things Everyone Should Know About You?
I was a middle school/high school English teacher before I had my kids; now I take care of them full time.
I read these books because the student I tutor is crazy about them.
I couldn't stop reading them and was very happy I read them all at once instead of having to wait for sequels.
I am a lover of literature and include YA lit. in that.
When Did You First Read Twilight (year) and how many times have you read a Twilight Book (total)?
2009 - Twilight - 4 times. The others I read 3 times.
Team Edward or Team Jacob? Why?
Team Edward although I have a soft spot for friends like Jacob.

Dear Jen,
Jen "I tutor and teach literature and writing for a living " Doc: "How great"
Jen "I don't think it's right to just take excerpts and read them out of context." Doc " I agree totally. And I feel that your point is the key to evaluating Ms. Cushmnan's thesis. Having spent a lifetime reading, I can't think of a single character in all of literature, who worked harder than Edward to not physically injuring the girl/woman he loved. To use him as an example of a "typical" physical or sexual abuser is ridiculous.
Jen "She (Stephanie) originally wrote "Twilight"....for an adult audience" Doc "A very insightful point. Stephanie told an interviewer that she wrote it for a 30 year old woman to enjoy. (Herself) As Stephanie wrote she never would have been considering how her work would have influenced young adults.
Jen "2nd grade students were reading these books" Doc "WOW!!"
Jen "Juliet was younger than Bella" Doc "Excellent point. If I am not wrong didn't "Romeo and Juliette" start with Juliette just having celebrated having her 13th birthday ?"
Thank you for such an excellent post. And for raising such important issues. Sincerely, Doc
