I mean, look at it from the view point of an average girl. You are average-looking, average-intellect, average income, and there is nothing special about you. Then, all of a sudden, this extremely attractive man, who happens to be an immortal vampire, swoops in and falls in love, although it really is lust. He's wealthy. He's powerful. He's fast. He's gorgeous to most females. Everybody wants him. Yet, he's committed to you--this average girl. Of course she is going to go crazy. Basically, this girl, Bella Swan in the story, is a self-insert. She could be easily replaced by any other girl. Thus, the girls freak out and imagine themselves in Bella's position.
