Ok, first off, I actually do love Twilight.. funny, huh, on a site made for those people... BUT... I have to admit, you're opinions and pictures had me laughing out loud... I was built, really... to agree with you.. I agree... Bella's a weakling.. Buffy fans the world over are shaking their head at her, I know, I know.. I'm kind of one of them too.. but just like Buffy's unhealthy love for Angel.. I'm still obsessed.. I know it's wrong.. I know MOST of the themes are unhealthy.. and yet.. I want me a piece of Edward.. YES... the movie was God awful, I actually felt brain cells dying, and RPattz, is probably the one of the worst actors breathing, I know.. I SOOO agree that real vampires don't sparkle, and never should.. and yet... "Here I sit"... to coin a phrase.. haha!
Anyway.. enough funny.. your points are too well made to not respect, and answer in my own way.. as an adult who is foolishly sucked in, and as a mother. I agree whole heartedly with you, there is no way I want my daughters growing up to emmulate Bella.. NO WAY! She is weak, annoying and a sycophant.. but your argument would be as accurate, AND as misplaced were you to apply it to Knocked Up, or Old School, or the Hangover.. all movies teens are seeing, all very bad themes if you use them as a how-to guide to life. And sensitive teens existed before Twilight, and other books/movies/music were used as scapegoats for ineffective parenting, and medical treatment, and they will still exist with the next big fad, long after all the evils of the world are blamed on Twilight. And, I think anyone honest here can admit.. this ain't no Uncle Tom's Cabin.. book yes, lifechanging revelation, no.... my generation was warned away from Guns N Roses, Marilyn Manson, etc, etc... it's not the medium.. it's the troubled heart that takes it in... and that's where parenting, the real anti-drug, cutting, teen pregnancy, teen marriage etc, etc comes in... too easily today we point fingers and blame others for our own shortcomings. The real evil is that we have become a society without personal responsibility. Everything can be blamed on peer pressure, the media, etc.. anywhere but where it belongs.
That said, I love my little escape, and I'm sure there are fans here now, reading this that think I'm a traitor.. maybe they should read your post better, realize.. it's a book, not the real world....
And, a question for you, who seems to like to debate good/evil/salvation/Godliness... have you read the Anne Rice vampire books??
