The Blood Bound Lake.
Ok i just started to write this. My friend is helping me know, so she will have this on her page as well. Tell me what you think. I will accept all critisism, good or bad. There might be some mistakes so just tell me. If you have any questions send me a message. Thanks. Enjoy. (for the expressive writing group :B)
It was four days after my birthday, when Sam and I were having one of our arguments. I as usual wasn’t paying attention.
“Are you listening to me,” he yells.
“Huh, uh yeah, yeah I am,” I say trying to think about what he was saying.
“Then what did I just say,” he says while having his hand on his hip.
“You were asking me if I was listening.”
“Ha, very funny, no, I was asking you if you wanted to come with me to go fishing tonight?”
“Sam, you know I don’t like to fish,” my last fishing trip with him ended badly.
“I know but I don’t want to go alone, with all the stories lately.”
“What stories? I didn’t hear anything.”
“Well I was in the store and I heard Chris and Bill talking, they were saying that they saw a figure over by the lake last week. Bill said it flew from the sky and landed in one of the trees.” As he said the last part I saw him shiver.
“You know I don’t believe in any of that. They probably were drunk and saw a large bird and thought it was a person. Go, you will be fine.”
“Cas, please come with me.” I knew he was going to beg for me to come.
“Ok fine, but don’t ask me to do anything.” I figured I better keep him company of else he would flip out.
After walking Sam to his house I headed to my wonderful house. Sam is lucky, he has no siblings. I on the other hand have two sisters. I have been over to his house many times and his mom and dad are never home, so it’s nice and peaceful. My house is like a disaster waiting to happen. Mary, my youngest sister whose 6, is always getting into my stuff and my mom does nothing. My step dad, Mike, punishes me for yelling at her. Katie is 12, she’s not as bad as Mary but she always has her friends over and all they care about is how they look, their always reading fashion magazines and going to the mall. So as I head up the road and I see our tiny home and wonder what it would be like if I had a life like Sam.
“I’m home!” I yell as I head up to my room. “Where do you think your going missy,” that voice yells at me, great Mike’s home. ”Up to my room, I have a science project due soon.” “Ok, just make sure you do your homework!”
I walk into my room, throw my backpack on my bed and look around at whatever Mary did to my room. Wow, one day without anything broken. It’s a new record. I keep asking my mom if I can get a lock on my door and all she says is that it’s unnecessary. Personally, I think I need it. As I head to the bathroom I hear Mary and Katie fighting over what to watch. Lucky me I have a TV in my room so I don’t have to share with anyone.
I look at myself in the mirror. I just turned 16, but I don’t look a day older then 13. My curly brown hair sits just above my shoulders, but no one would know that because I always keep it in a ponytail. The bags under my eyes, from no sleep, make them look huge. With my pale face you can almost see right through my skin. I look just like my dad, but he left my mom 6 years ago. She just married Mike last year. Mary and Katie already call him dad, but I refuse. He is not my dad so I will not call him that.
As I’m attempting to get a brush through my hair I hear a noise from my room. I got a message on my computer. I open the IM and it’s from Sam, big surprise.
Hey what are you up to? I’m home alone again.
As usual he’s home alone.
Hey, oh nothing, I’m just hiding in my room. Come over, my windows open.
Sure, see you in a few. I’ll bring my fishing stuff so we can leave from your house.
Oh, wonderful, I forgot about the fishing date.
Yeah, sure whatever. Hurry Up.
Even though I live on the second floor, I built a ladder that I leave on the side of the house if I ever have people over, or if I want to get out of this crazy place. A few minutes after talking to Sam, I hear a knock at my window. I look out
and see him throwing rocks at my window trying to get my attention. I hear a muffled, “Let me in!” I open the window and the rusted hinges make a noise loud enough to be heard from across town. He leaves the fishing pole and other stuff on the ground under the bush and starts climbing. When he reaches my room I already got the TV on and my radio blasting.
“How do you watch TV and listen to the radio at the same time!” he yells, but I can barely hear him over the noise.
“I don’t know, just sit down,” I watch him as he goes and sits in my desk chair.
Sam has been my best friend since grade school. We both moved in around the same time so we didn’t have many friends. We have stayed together all these years. Sam has short, dark brown hair that almost looks black. His eyes are a pale blue. He’s much taller then me, but he hates his height. He could be on any sport team or be friends with anyone, but he doesn’t do any sports and he’s really only friends with me. I wouldn’t count Bill and Chris as “friends”; they more or less hang out with Sam when no one else is around. Both of them got voted most likely not to pass High School last year. Everyone saw that coming. I probably don’t give Sam as much credit as he deserves. Hanging with me everyday is not good on your social class in school.
For me High School is horrible. I am the bottom of all the groups. In my school it’s all about the athletes. If you’re athletic, you’re automatically popular. I don’t participate in gym or do any sports, so I am so not one of the popular crowd. If your friends with someone whose athletic, you’re next. Then comes the smart people, which I am not. And all the way at the bottom are Sam and I. It doesn’t bother me much, even though you couldn’t tell it bothered him, it does. I can tell he wants to be popular, but he cares for me and doesn’t want to leave me.
“So, what time do you want to leave?” He says taking me out of my thoughts.
“Um, what time is it now?”
“We can leave In a second; I just got to go tell my mom I’m leaving.”
“Alright, I’ll meet you outside.”
My moms in the kitchen cooking dinner, I can smell her secret pasta sauce from the hallway. “Hey Mom,” I say as I grab a snack from the fridge. “You’re not going to eat with us?” I can sense the disappointment in her voice “No, sorry, Sam wants me to go fishing with him.” “Ok, just be back before dark.”
“Ok, I’ll see you when I get home.”
Sam’s waiting patiently for me outside. The lake is only 10 minutes from my house, so we can just walk. On the way there he talked about school and other stuff. I barely said a word. Sometimes I think he can carry on a conversation by himself.
“Here it is,” he says as he sets the fishing stuff down.
The last time I came with him he made me try catch something. I put my pole in the water and something big got it. I tried to reel it in but it was to strong so it pulled me right in. I ended up being tossed around in the water and got bruises on my arms and legs. This time I made sure I didn’t do anything. After 3 hours we decided to head back. Sam only caught 3 fish.
“I told you there was no creature around here.’’
“Yeah, I guess your right; I got worried for no reason.”
“So, really there was no reason for me to come.”
“No, but I enjoyed your company.”
“Uhuh, sure you did. Well, I got to go head back; my mom wants me home before dark.”
“Alright, I’ll see you at school tomorrow.”
When I got home I grabbed some pasta and headed up stairs. I ate my dinner then decided to check my email. No new messages. I looked at the clock and it said 9:00. I guess ill go to bed and try to get some sleep.

Great, it’s morning. As I’m getting changed to head to school I notice that it’s raining. Now I have to walk. I grab my umbrella and start down the street. I just remembered I had a project to due, oh well. Mr. Harnie will just call my parents again, but there so used to it they won’t even care.
“Hey Cassandra,” Megan calls. She’s a nice girl, but I would never hang out with her after school. Her locker is right next to mine so I talk to her a lot.
“Hi Megan, What’s up?”
“Oh nothing. I noticed you didn’t do your project.”
“Yeah, I didn’t do it. So.”
“Well I think that you should start taking your work seriously,” she’s starting to sound like my mom.
“I know, everyone keeps saying that. Anything else you want to talk about.”
“Well I’m sure you know about the accident?”
“No, what accident?”
“There was a story saying that a boy got lost when he was hiking around the lake. His parents were looking for him but they never found him. I just think it’s so sad.”
“Wait you said he disappeared by the lake? When did this happen?” Oh my god, we were just by the lake.
“Um, I think it was yesterday. Why?”
“Because Sam and I went fishing yesterday and nothing happened. We would have seen him, but no one was there.”
“Wow, really? That’s so weird. Maybe it was a different lake. I have to get to class, if I hear anything more I will tell you.”
“Ok, bye see you later,” She started to walk away when the bell rang. I need to tell Sam, we have lunch next period so I can tell him then.
After buying my lunch I saw Sam sitting at our usual table. He seemed sadder today.
“Sam, did u hear?”
“About the boy at the lake? Yeah, that’s what everyone’s talking about.”
“Isn’t it weird that we were there when they said he disappeared?”
“Yeah, it’s strange. Now when ever I go to lake again I will be really scared.”
“You know what I’m thinking,” I have a really good idea, but Sam wont like it.
“No, I don’t like it when you start thinking. Things happen.”
“We should go back to the lake tonight. See if we can find the boy.”
“Oh no. I’m not going.”
“Come on. I came with you fishing. Now you can come with me to the lake. I promise if something happens we will leave right away.”
“Ok, fine I will go. But, we have to be back before dark. I don’t want to be out in the forest at night, it seems creepy.”
“Yay, thank you. This is going to be fun.”
