I still think all of those examples are jealousy, but maybe Edward didn't realise it at first. He probably thought it was the arch ennemy thing, but I feel Angela was right all along. Don't forget that he thanks Jacob for looking after Bella first. He is very gratefull to the "dog". Only jacob isn't so friendly, Edward also hears his thoughts, he knows straight away he has a rival. He also sees how Bella reacts towards Jacob. He sees her love for him. Ofcourse he is jealous. I also never heard too much sarcasme in Edward's retorts to Jacob, I thought he was very nice most of the time. For Bella's sake mostly, but still... He also totally accepted Jacob as soon as he came to warn the vampires that Sam had decided to attack. He only got annoyed with Jacob after he imprinted on his daughter, even Bella did. And when finally he accepted Jacob as his son, (because I recall he called him brother before, but I'll have to look it up), he did so because he knew he could trust Jacob with his daughter.
Their friendship took longer for Jacob to accept than it did for Edward. And that is my opinion.
Trotter has put up some more blogs. His are allways good. have you read them?
Lots of hugs,
Patricia

Found it:
Edward: "You know, Jacob, if it weren't for the fact that we are natural ennemies and that you're also trying to steal away the reason for my existence, I might actually like you."
Jacob: "Maybe... if you weren't a disgusting vampire who was planning to suck out the life of the girl I love... well, no, not even then."
Edward chuckled.

About your comment on my blogpost: I don't think Edward was truly antagonistic against Jacob; At first he didn't really mind the boy, but after Jacob starts shouting in his head that "he loves Bella" he gets jealous; as Angela so clearly states. He may be more mature, but he is still a guy. I think at one stage Edward even tells Jacob he might even like him, but I'll have to look that one up. I think it was in the tent in Eclipse. After the imprinting he is the angry dad ofcourse. Nobody is good enough for his little girl. (And she was pretty little at the time.)

I think you have a good point there. I also thought the Potter books were better technically but the Meyer books have all the emotion. And it is so true that Rowling tought the children to read again. I sell books for a living, (have done for the last 31 years), and Potter was bought by kids as young as 9. After that they went for Tolkien. I used to sell Tolkien to 15/ 17 year olds, then it was 12/13. Twilight does the same. Any book that makes people read is a good book (and I don't mean that from a cashflow POV). As a reader it is often difficult to understand non readers, they miss out on so much in my opinion, but you really can't make people do anything they don't want to. as a teacher you probably know that only too well.
About the film I must also agree, they left out the whole part of the "fun" Edward and the character of Bella lost it's "old soul" part completely. But that is as the script told it, I suppose. It lost a whole lot that way. Hope the next script puts some more emotion in.
I probably don't differentiate enough in the different accents to hear if Rob sounded creditable as a Chicago-born. I can tell the difference between American, Australian, South African, Scottish, Welsh and Irish. I even hear the difference between southern and northern England, but that is how far it goes.
So what is it you teach? Music? Because you talked about the trips to London.

Hey Tweedybird!
I didn't name all my favorite ones, just the ones that popped to mind. I just love his writing; There is a lot of research done and he makes his characters so true to life. I only wished he started his writing career sooner so he would have had more time to write. At least he lived to a ripe old age without getting senile. He wrote till the end. Clavell was good as well, but I'm not so fond of the Japanese culture as it was even more violent and cruel than the western world. But they sure had great artists. I am so intrigued by those ivory balls, carved one inside the other... they sure have patience! I'm glad they are not alowed to use ivory anymore, but the antiques are intriguing. (I watch the antique's roadshow, as you might have noticed.)
Austen is also one of my favorite authors. I love the humor in her writing. Emma is great, love mister Kennedy but my favorite is Mr.Darcy. (isn't he everybody's favorite?) So what did you think of the "modern version" of Pride and Prejudice? Bridget Jones diary's? Lucky Jane was long dead or she might have had a courtcase on her hands. As it is, I thought it was quite an inventive way of showing her appreciation. Still didn't buy the book though.
The blogs were my reaction to the discussion between Trotter and Kealyn on DazzledLemonadeCap's trait; Unluckely it got deleted. I saved Trotter's invite to discus Bella's involvement in Edward's leaving, but he hasn't been back on the site since April 8th. Kealyn is worried something bad happened to him but I think he is just giving his wife and kids some more attention instead of the site, wich is good!
I think I'll prepare some retort to Captain Hammer's attacs on fans as well. The anti's can be quite ferosious in their attacs. I want to show him that this is a "deep" story and not a waste of space. I do wonder why, if people don't like a book, they want to take down those that do? I understand some kids are a bit too preoccupied with the "hottness" of Rob and Taylor, but that is just teen hormones, isn't it? Nothing to do with Twilight. So if you have any ideas on what to write in my blog, let me know.
And I still want to find out why this saga has me obsessed with it. I never experienced this before, and it isn't as if there aren't any greater books about or that I haven't read a lot... (I suppose Twilight brought back alive the "teen hormones".)

Hello there Danish American,
It's not far to pop over to Belgium when you are in London. I don't know where Hercule comes from, but I should guess he was from Brussels ot there about. the English (Agatha Christie) often mistake Brussels for Belgium. Most americans haven't even heard of it. We are very tiny but quite a pretty little country with loads of history.
Thanks for your kind words on my comments and my profile (?), allthough I don't get what is so great about it.
It is true, not many people like Michener. mostly they are put off by the volume of his books. My favorites? I love them all but I have great affinity with Hawaii, Cheasapeake, The Source, The Covenant, The Carabean, Alaska, Space.... Do I need to go on? The one book I never read twice was Poland. Not that it wasn't a great book, but because it hurt me so that that nation has suffered so much through the ages. I only wished Mr. Michener had written about Belgium. He came here often, (he had friends in Antwerp), but he never wrote about my little (totally messed up) country. Pity!

Hello there!
Yes my name is Dutch, or more exactly: Flemmish since I'm from Belgium. It means "from the medlar" (=fruit) I suppose my ancestors had some fruittrees or lived near some. Ever tasted a medlar? (yuck!) It has to be a bit "overripe" to be any good. Wouldn't advise it! I suppose, seeing you enjoy British humor, you're from Britain. Where exactly?
