Jacob and Bella...?

Hi guys.... so, i was thinking...what would happen if Bella and Alice didn't get to Volterra in time to save Edward from the Volturi? Or if Bella gave into Jacob's life-long crush while Edward disappeared? In my perspective, that would make the saga much better. Maybe Edward would return while Bella and Jacob were in love? Why Stephenie Meyer may think that she is finished when so many of us think that she isn't.

I have been doing some thinking about why Stephenie Meyer (SM) thinks that she is finished and why there are so many of us who were left feeling that it wasn't really over.
