He slammed my door behind me. Then he was in and we were starting down the road. What was I doing? 

My stomach churned uncomfortably. "Mike? Where are we going?" I asked him  , nervously. He grinned. " That's for me

to know and for you to find out." Not if I read your mind first. 'A  , B , C , D , E , F , G , H , I , J...' He thought.   

Darn. He was good. I glared at him. "Stop!" I yelled. He slammed on the brakes. "What?"…

Something in his voice made me want to believe him... but I couldn't. I wouldn't be hurt again. I shook his hand off.

I sniffed and said , "If you had , you wouldn't have hurt me ." I said , wiping away tears just for another down pour of

the hot tears. He looked ashamed and very very upset . "Callie .You have to believe me I-" I cut him off , not wanting to

hear more lies. "I'm done." I said , still crying. His eyes turned black and hopeless. "I would never hurt you."…

 *****I rolled over on the incredibly soft bed and bumped into Steven. I snuggled closer to him and he wrapped his 

arms around me gently. I rested my head on his chest and he stroked my cheek. "What time is it?" I asked him.  

He let go of me to look over his broad shoulders at the clock on the brown wooden night stand. "7:30." He said clearly.

"Oh." I stared at the red wall absently as i tried to remember what was making me anxious. Something for John...? No.…

A week later. 

                  A cool wind blew my hair back. Steven's arm was securely wrapped around my waist. We headed towards

the sparkling blue pool. We were throwing a party for Jackie's birthday. My cellphone buzzed in my back pocket. 

It was a text: WHERE R U? -MOM  I rolled my eyes and shoved it back into my pocket. "Who was it?" Steven asked

I stared at him bewildered. Then I felt a surge of electricity as his right hand cupped my cheek. He leaned in ,brushing

his lips over mine and then pulled back ,when it seemed like I would never stop. He laughed bitterly. Then he took my

hand and he carried me onto the surprisingly soft bed. He leaned over me a moment, kissing my neck until I pulled his

My mouth fell open. Subconsciously the flyer fell out of my now shaking hands and onto the floor. "Nobody saw

us...right?"I managed to gasp. The door opened . I turned back , mechanically. John  walked in , whistling , threw

his keys onto the  marble counter and started towards us. "Hey Callie!" He embraced me. He could feel my body

I watched silently as my parents examined the piece of paper on Callie's desk. They were whispering to eachother. 

I had turned 7 a couple days ago and Callie hadn't even remembered . She went out and bought me a brush at the 

last minute. She didn't even stay for my birthday party. She had been acting weird for the last month or so.

Stephaine had this look on her face -a mixture of astonishment , gratitude , and joy. She was a blur as she ran to John.

"Oh John!" She cried. He looked up at her with a wary smile on his face. He lifted up both her legs and held her so that

she could see his face. She wrapped her pale arms around  his neck and kissed him passionately. It was cute at first.

But then I thought I was gonna puke. I turned away. Steven did too and whispered , "Let's give them some…

Anna looked like a character from a horror film. John lunged for her throat. Anna menacingly clawed at his face. 

I couldn't really even tell who was winning. Then something awful happened. A big white chunk flew across the room .

Jackie placed her cup on the tan counter and walked quickly towards us. She looked anxious. "What's wrong?" She

asked . She knew her brother very well . John sat on a large white couch and patted for Jackie to sit beside him.

I growled quietly then looked at my father. "Look, I'm sorry , it won't happen again." I turned slightly to wink at Steven.

He grinned , then suddenly , like it had never been there , his grin disappeared. My father huffed then turned to Steven.

"You'd best be getting home." He said. Steven nodded quickly then walked to me. He kissed my forehead and squeezed

me in a hug. Wow. He had some nerve doing that in front  of my father. '…

We raced back to my house as the sun was coming up in the east. I beat him there , with him only a few paces behind.

"I win ," I said , grinning. He pulled me close. He rested his head on my hair. "I'll beat you next time." He said into my

"Please, just don't hurt him."  I pleaded. She razed one eyebrow. "Why would I do that?"  " What are you doing here

then?" I asked , confusedly. She smiled so pleasantly it was frightening. "Your-friend Jackie stole Mike away from me."

"But, he loves Jackie." I said quietly. "No!" She snapped. I recoiled back like I had just received  a  lash from a whip.

"He just thinks he does. Jackie got to him before I could persuade him to come back to me." She said…

I considered this. Hunting? I hadn't been hunting in a month or two , which was not a good decision on my part.

It took almost every ounce of my inner strength not to kill Anna, my parents  or --sigh-- Mike. This must've been a new

thing for them. Wasn't it...? I suppose I could've just not known this whole time. I mean, he doesn't stay all night.

Steven's head was filled with the lion's scent. The lion smelled like the sweetest cinnamon. I inhaled deeply and

looked away , afraid I'd mess it up. The lion shrieked and suddenly I was running towards him. The ear splitting 

screech echoed off the treetops. I didn't want to hurt my beloved one , Steven. Never. Why was I doing this?

It felt just as it had that one night , at the dance.  Like something invisible was straining me to him. I picked up
