Chapter 4
Zeke folded his arms around me as I wept into his shirt. I shook violently with sobs. Zeke’s soft cold hand gently swept up and down my back. After moments of just sitting there and crying I final pulled out of his arms. I looked deep into those turquoise eyes and saw love, and sadness. He gently placed his lips on my forehead. When he kissed my skin, I tingled all over. I felt his care from the sweet kiss and had a strong desire for one on his lips. We gently and slowly leaned in…
“Am I interrupting something?” Jake asked from the doorway to my room. Zeke and I immediately jumped and pulled away from one another. Zeke got off my bed and darted out the door and into his dorm. He slammed the door and all was silent. As soon as he left the warm, comforting feeling was gone, and I felt alone again. Jake crossed over to my bed and glanced at Lila who was sleeping in her bed across from mine. “She gave us quite a scare.”
“What happened after I…uh…passed out?”
“Well, actual she said her head was burning, screamed again, than passed out.”
“Oh.” My eyes didn’t hurt much anymore. “I don’t know what happened, but when Lila was hurt it felt as if I was losing someone I loved. I know that sounds weird because I just meet all of you but, I feel like I already know you and trust you.”
“I know what you mean. It’s like were all family.” He smiled and grabbed me into a HUGE bear hug. I laughed. It felt so good to laugh again. Jake let me go and I smiled up at him. Zeke walked in, and whispered something to Jake. Jake looked at me, then Zeke, laughed a left the room.
“I’m sorry, but I forgot to ask you, why were you crying?” Zeke asked casually. Like I didn’t almost kiss him, and didn’t start to like-like him.
“I had a dream about my friend, Kelsey, committing suicide. All because of me. All because of what I had become.” Tears swelled in my eyes. He sat down gently and gently moved the hair from my face. I leaned into him. “That’s not even the worst part,” I said continuing. “She jumped off my favorite bridge, at twilight, my favorite part of the day, on Christmas Eve.” I turned to see he gorgeous face. “The whole time it felt like it was real, like it really will happen. I don’t know how to explain it, but I think I could save her, I just don’t know how, or why.”
“During this dream, did your eyes burn?” Zeke questioned, clearly concerned.
“No, but right before I had this dream they felt like they were on fire. It was the worst pain I have ever felt, then Lila with her burning head, and Jakes skin, and your ears. All dying the same way. All living in the same place. Feeling connected with one another. It’s all goes together. I can feel something big coming. What does it all mean?” I rambled.
He leaned in and kissed my forehead like he had before. “Don’t worry I will figure it out. I will keep you safe.”
