Bella’s Letter

It was a struggle to stay at human pace. They only thing keeping me from running to Bella as fast as I could was Carlisle’s hand on my shoulder and the many humans who would see.
I strained to see her as I walked through the gate. Suddenly I felt unnaturally calm… why did jasper think I needed to stay calm.
Then I saw them. Jasper looked worried, all he was thinking was ‘calm, calm, calm’.
When I saw Alice I began to panic. Her face was twisted in pain. ‘I’m sorry, I’m so, so sorry’ she thought. Bella wasn’t with them. I ran to them.
“Where is she” I growled.
Flashes played through her head.
Bella had panicked while she waited for me.
“I think I’ll eat now” she had said. Alice had gotten up to go with her. “Do you mind if Jasper comes instead? I’m feeling a little…” she had said with a half crazed look in her eye.
“Alice, come here now!” Jasper had called out to her quietly after a few minutes. Alice had rushed to him outside the girl’s bathroom. “She’s been in there a bit too long… I can’t hear anything in there. Alice had gone in following Bella’s scent; she had gone straight through to the other side.
‘She wanted to go Edward’ she thought. I felt my face crumple.
‘But why would she give me a letter for her mother if she was planning on going?”
“Give me the letter Alice”. She ducked in her bag and pulled out an envelope. I tore it open and folded open the paper tucked inside.

Edward
I love you. I am so sorry. He has my mom, and I have to try. I know it may not work. I am so very, very sorry.
Don’t be angry with Alice and Jasper. If I get away from them it will be a miracle. Tell them thank you for me. Alice especially; please.
And please, please don’t come after him. That’s what he wants, I think. I cant bear it if anyone has to be hurt because of me, especially you. Please, this is the only thing I can ask you now. For me.

I felt my chest rip open, I barely noticed the shocked thoughts of the others as they read over my shoulder or that my hands had started to shake.
