The Twilight Saga

April 21, 2009

There are a lot of things I should be doing updates on—for example, how awesome and successful the Book Babe event was, and how cool it was to meet all the other authors and hang out with them a little bit, and how much I appreciated all the tremendous support from the fans—but instead of commenting on happy things (which I admit I should have done a week ago; I was waiting for things to slow down for a day, silly me!), I’m commenting on ridiculous internet rumors so that my publicist’s day will be just a little bit better.

I am not being sued. No one has contacted me or my publisher to inform either of us that I’m being sued. I never had a roommate named Heidi. There is no professor in the BYU English department named Dr. Peter Benton (though there is a character on ER by that name). And most of all, I began writing Twilight exactly the way I’ve told people in countless interviews and events for the past six years: I had a cool dream, I wrote it down, writing it down was really fun, so I kept writing until I had a whole book.

The sad thing about this silly situation is that so many legitimate news outlets reported it without doing any research at all to determine if there was any truth to the story. And at least two of these facts are really, really easy to confirm. Particularly, the one about the BYU professor. A simple on-line search can give you that information. Also, a quick call to my publisher would have cleared up the whole lawsuit story. (Kudos to the fansites who did their due diligence and debunked this rumor days ago.)

I guess the moral of the story is that—big surprise—you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. Seems like it’s April Fool’s Day every day on-line. So no worries, the filming of New Moon continues uninterrupted. And, to end this on a bright note, the filming of New Moon continues to be awesome. It’s all so beautiful! Chris Weitz is brilliant. Kristen, Rob, and Taylor are beyond words. I have gotten choked up more than once on set due to their amazing performances. I can’t wait to see it all put together!

I do not know if you read these, but I am 34 years old and love the Twilight Saga. I have my sister hooked on them now. I was sorry to hear that someone you trusted betrayed you by putting Midnight Sun out before it was finished. I have to say that from what I have read of Midnight Sun, it is awsome. I love getting a looking into the mind of Edward. So, like all of your fans worldwide I have to say please finish the book.

Being a full time mom and wife while teaching at a University leaves little to no time for pleasure reading... However, when I saw the movie Twilight I knew I had to read these books.. While on vacation I read the series in 5 days.. My boys couldn't figure out why I was reading instead of playing in the sand with them. (Had to find time to play and read 8~} )Then a few weeks ago in the Sunday Parade magazine I notice mention of Midnight Sun which I found on Stephenie's web site. I LOVED what I read. I hope she does not let the poor judgement of a few ruin the enjoyment of her fan base! I loved reading Edward's perspective, what a great compliment it would be to the series. Here is to hoping she will finish i>i>Midnight Sun.

I have 3 daughters and I haven't been able to read a book in years, because I'm always so busy, I bet you know the feeling. But I somehow found the time to read all 4 books in a week. I let all my house work pile up just to read your books, once I finished one I couldn't stop until i had them all read. I love them all. I can't wait to see the movie New Moon, I wish November would get here already. I hope you will continue with the story of the Cullens . That would make me the happiest person in the world. Stephenie you are awesome! Your books are my all time favorite and you are my favorite author. Thank you so much for writing these wonderful stories.

That's why I never listen to the stupid childish rumors, you are great Steph, keep up the awesome work, and I hope to see another twilight book.

I wish you would finish Midnight Sun. I have read, what you have on your site. Im really sorry that the story got leaked. I wish that would not stop you. You have alot of fans that would love to read the completed story. Reading Edwars side of the story also helps with all the characters in the book. Since Edward could read all their minds. Im a huge fan, and very proud of having your books on my book shelf. And would love to have Midnight Sun with my collection of your books. I would love to read Edward side of the story with all four books.
