After Hayley comforted me, we just stood there, looking at each other awkwardly. Finally, Hayley broke the silence. "You know, this may turn out to be one of the stupidest things I've ever done, but...I'll go." Before I could interrupt, she continued. "I know, I know. I don't have to go if I don't want to. I know my mom'll be coming here in about a week and she'll get the problem fixed, but...I don't know. I've kind of always felt I wanted to run away...I mean, I've never really felt happy in my life. I...always felt the need to run away, to escape reality. I guess here's my chance, and I'm taking it. I'll go, even though I just met you, what, two days ago? I sure do hope you're not a killer or something...because, I'm going, whether you like it or not." She said, smirking.
"All right, if you're sure..." I said. I still felt pretty guilty...and idiotic. But I quickly stopped at the look she gave me.
"Look," she said, "I'm going. Just stop saying stuff like 'If you're sure' or 'Only if you want to', ok? I'm not going to lie and say I want to when I really don't just to please you." I guess I looked hurt, so she quickly said," Look, I'm sorry I'm being really rude here, but...I don't know. Just forgive me...please? I'll stop- I swear." she said, giving me that puppy dog stare. Wow, she caught on quick. Those puppy dog stares were my weakness. Of course I couldn't say no. I mean, I wouldn't have said no anyway, but...
"Ok" was all I said. I usually talk for a long time and act stubborn. Hayley looked surprised.
"Well, where are we headed?" she asked.
"Wherever you want to go," I said, and she looked at me funny. Oh yeah, I wasn't supposed to act like that. Whoops...
I took her into my room and sat down on the bed with her. I told her Hawaii would be nice, but for personal reasons I couldn't go there. She looked confused, so I made up a story that I have a weird disease where I couldn't be in the sun for more than an hour or I would get really sick. I said that's why I live somewhere where there's very little sun. We discussed where to go that would be ok for me and met her expectations and we didn't really come up with anywhere. We decided to ask my family and see if they had any ideas. Maybe, since neither of us had really been to too many neat places on vacation, we could go to different places every so often.
We decided to ask my family if they had any ideas of where to go. Hayley had never really met or talked to my family, so this would also be their first time seeing each other. We started down the steps to meet them. I wish I would have realized how stupid my sister Marie was beforehand. She really could have ruined the friendship (or more) between Hayley and me.
