Well it’s official - the “New Moon” movie just broke box office records for a midnight showing. The popularity of the Twilight series can’t be denied.
And neither can the beautiful piano music that underscores the film. Most want the sheet music for these pieces, but did you know it’s easy to create music like this yourself? It’s true. And it’s a lot easier than you might think.
Actually, the type of music you hear in “New Moon” is called New Age. It’s a genre that’s been popular since the 1980’s and uses simple chord patterns and techniques to create a relaxed and serene ambiance.
The easiest way to get started playing this kind of music is to learn how to use chords. But not just any chord. The chord structure I have my students learn first is called “open position” and with it, you’ll be able to create your own “New Moon” piano music very quickly.
For example, in the free piano lesson “Reflections in Water” we have a few chords played in the Key of C Major. You might think learning how to play a modern sounding chord in both hands right away would be difficult. Most do. The fact is, it’s quite easy to play.
Once you get used to the open position chord, you will be able to create music. It really is that simple. Why? Because the chord structure here is so big it allows you to play around with the tones and create music immediately.
I personally love the music from the Twilight series. Romantic, serene, and peaceful, it sets the tone for the films and leaves you wanting more!
