"Hey," Paul said as he approached us. "Wow, Jackie. You look hot."
"Uh, thanks?" I can't beleive he just said that to me!
Ash playfully slapped his arm.
"But you're beautiful, my own personal sun," he smiled down at her and wrapped his huge arms around her. She giggled and blushed.
"I think I'm gonna puke," Abbie gagged.
"Well, you can thank your 'own personal sun' for this," I motioned to my face.
"She's good isn't she?" Paul continued to smile and leaned down to kiss her. Their lips met and it was obvious they weren't going to part soon.
"C'mon, Abby. Let's go find some darts you can throw at random people."
"They really let you do that here? I love this place!"
I sighed and grabbed her by the arm and dragged her to the little restaurant in the back.
"You hungry?" I asked her.
"No, I'm lookin' for some darts."
I had to laugh at her then. "I was just kidding about that. You know that, right?"
"You were? JACKIE! You know better then to tease me like that!"
"I know, I couldn't help it, though. It's a curse, sorry."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah."
"HEY, GUYS! Look! It's Lil' Bit!"
"Hey Saints guy," I teased the man behind the counter who was a good friend of my family's.
"Who Dat?!" He raised his hands up at his sides.
"Hey, Lil' Bit," John said as he passed the counter, drying his hands.
"Hey, John. How's your mom?"
"Oh, fine. She's doing better. Thanks for askin'."
"What can I get you, squirt?" Travis asked me.
"The usual. You sure you don't want anything, Abbie?"
"Actually, yes. I would like a cheese burger, hold the onions, large fries, a slice of peperoini pizza, chiken strips, and a large coke. I want the chiken stripes to come with ranch. Did you get all that?"
He stared at her, open mouthed, for a second. "Uh, yeah," he composed himself. "Coming right up."
I just stared at her with my mouth agape.
"What?" She looked at me.
"You're seriously going to eat all that?"
"I don't know. i guess we'll see, right?"
"Here are your drinks," Saints guy said as he set the cups down in front of us.
We grabbed them and walked over to the soda fountain. She filled hers with coke and I filled mine with Dr. Pepper. Then we walked over to a booth against the wall and talked about nothing.
"Did you get any good pictures?" I asked as I bent down to grab the napkin I dropped.
"Not yet," she said.
I came up and was blinded by a flash.
"What the-" I rubbed my eyes to get them to adjust faster.
"Now I do," Abby giggled.
"I swear, if you put that in the yearbook, you'll be missing an eyebrow for the rest of the summer!" I growled.
She just continued to giggle.
"You can't be that tired already," the all-too familiar voice came from the side and it was apparent that he had a smile on.
"No, I was blinded by a flash of a camera." I stopped rubbing my eyes and looked up at Seth.
Like I thought, he was smiling. He sat down next to me and saw all the food infront of Abigail.
"How do you stay so thin?" He asked her.
"Well, I work off most of my meals by drawing, playing videos games or screaming at the TV because they just can't leave a Naruto episode like that."
"What games do you play?"
By the first game that Abby said, I was completely lost. i could tell they were in deep conversation and talking about how people wouldn't die if the just used the... well, some sort of gun. I didn't know what they were talking about, so I let my mind drift.
What really happened between Ash and Paul? Were they an "item"? Is Ash right? Does Seth like me? Will Abby find someone? Someone that deserves her?
"I'm going to the bathroom," I announced.
"Sorry if we're boring you," Seth appologized.
"No, that's fine. Because, even though I'm her friend, there's only so much Modern Warfare a person can take. Especially one who doesn't play it," I laughed.
Abby giggled. "That's so true. She totally zones out when I talk about how I..." Then I was lost again.
I got up and headed to the bathroom on the other end of the bowling alley. I passed a bunch of teens laughing and joking and having a good time. Finally, I reached the bathrooms.
"Did you see her?"
"I know, right? Who wears that to catch a guys attention?"
"I mean, seriously. What does he see in her? She's a total slob and is obviously desperste for love. Did you see how she hangs on every word he says to her?"
"Yeah! As if he would notice her! He is definitely missing out on some real girls. Like, for example, you and I."
"That is so true!" They giggled. I had obviously stepped into a conversation that I would not like. I felt bad for whoever the poor innocent soul they were picking on.
I went into a stall and went to the bathroom.
"Let's face it... Jackie Shoemaker does not deserve Seth Clearwater. He's obviously just playin' her. She's just too desperate and clingy to even notice."
"That is SO true!" They laughed.
So they were talking about me? Wow. I felt really bad then. I flushed the toilet and washed my hands and headed back to Abby.
I forgot that Seth was there. I stood in front of them and just stared at him as if he were the Grim Reaper himself. I just stared with a deep frown on my face.
"Hey," he smiled up at me. "What's a matter?"
"Is it true?" I asked.
"Is what true?"
"You're messed up." I reached over him and grabbed my jacket. I turned and walked.
"Wh-" he sighed. Then ne grabbed my arm and spun me around to make me look at him. "What is your problem?" He asked.
"My problem?" I scoffed. "MY problem?"
"What did I do? Hmm?"
"Actually, no I don't."
I scoffed again "You're unbeleivable," then I turned to walk out the door.
"Jackie!" He called.
I continued to walk. Then I decided to stop and go find Abby and Ash. When I turned around, I wanted to die. There was Gabriella, stroking a finger in a circle on his chest. She was flirting. I lost my decision to go and look for Abby and Ash. I'll text them tomorrow, I decided. As I got far enough away from the bowling alley, I let the tears fall.
How could I have been so stupid? Maybe I am love deprived, desperste. But then again, how could he be so heartless? My tears fell freely. I really did like him. He was sweet, kind, funny, caring. Why did he have to go and ruin it?
A tapping on my shoulder startled me. I turned around to see Ash and Abbie.
"What's a matter?" Ash asked.
"Yeah, you just, like, left. What's wrong?" They saw me crying.
"Yeah. You're crying. Jackie, you never cry."
"Nothing," I sniffed.
Then behind them, I saw Seth running toward us.
"Hey!" He called.
"C'mon, guys. I don't want to talk to him."
We turned and walked. But he was quicker then us. He reached us and grabbed my arm and made me turn around.
"WHAT do you want from me?" I cried. "You want to rub it in my face?" I choked on the last word and then I started to bawl.
"I don't know what you are talking about," he whispered. "Please don't cry."
"You know, you should go back to Gabriella, I'm sure she's missing you. Plus, apparently I'm so desperate that you would want to play with my heart like this."
"Would you please tell me what you are talking about?"
"You should know." Then I turned to leave. Before I could go very far, he grabbed my arm again. "Will you just-" My sentence was stopped by Seth's lips crushing mine.
His lips were warm and soft. They were feirce at first, but when he realized that I wasn't objecting, they became sweet and very tender. I was lost in the kiss. My hand gripped his hair and pulled him closer. His arms were wrapped around my waist and he was bending me to the shape of him. I felt him smile against my lips and pull back. I opened my eyes and saaw that he looked as drunk as I felt. His kiss was intoxicating.
"Wow," I breathed. "What was that for? Whatever it was, it totally got me off track of why I was mad."
He chuckled. "I've liked you for a while, Jackie. I just didn't know how to say it. When you got mad at me, for what, I still have no clue, but that's when I realized that I need to show you how I feel. I didn't want to lose you."
"Wow," I breathed again. This was a lot to take in. "I like you, too."
"Good. Otherwise, I would've just made a complete fool of myself," he laughed.
"Yeah," I laughed back.
"Will you stay for a little while longer?"
"I guess. I feel like an idiot now. I'm sorry."
"That's OK. C'mon, girls. Let's go have some fun." I had almost forgot about my friends behind me.
I turned around and blushed when I saw their mouths open and staring at us.
"YO, Seth!" Paul called from the bowling alley. "You have to watch this man! There's this guy who challenged Sam to a shot contest! It's gonna be hilarious!"
We walked back to the bowling alley and saw a cluster of people.
"Who challenged?" Seth asked Paul.
"This guy. I think he works in the resturant back there," he jammed his thumb toward the small eating place we had just eaten at.
"Oh no." I had a feeling who it was. I hoped that my feeling was wrong.
I rushed to the small table that was set up in the middle of the group of bodies that had twelve shots on either side. It was who I thought it was.
"You can't do this, Travis," I begged.
"Oh, now you're doubting my mad skills?"
"No. You just can't drink. You just stopped that program, if you drink a shot, I'm afraid that you're gonna want to drink again," I kept begging.
He stood up and I sighed. He wasn't going to do it. He grabbed my jaw in his right hand and made it open by squeezing. He grabbed one of the shots and dumped it in my open mouth. I gagged. It burned my throat.
"Don't doubt my skills." He let go of my face and sat down again.
I coughed. It hurt, a lot. How could he do that to me? I was under age. I can't drink! I started to feel the effects of the shot in my system.
Everyone started to sway to one side then to the other. I suddenly felt very happy. I smiled and laughed.
I walked toward Seth, Ash and Abby.
"Hey guys," I hicupped. "What's happenin'?"
"What happened to you?" Seth smiled.
"I feel.... wonderful." I leaned my head on his chest and looked up at him and put a doppy smile on my face.
He looked kind of scared. "It's fine." I reached up and stroked his black hair.
"Jackie, what happened to you?" Abby asked.
"I love you guys. I really do." A person walked by and I grabbed his shoulder and turned him to face me. "I love you, man."
"Jackie!" Ash and Abby screeched. I just patted the guy's shoulder and shoved him away.
I walked up to a table and stood up on it.
"What are you doin Jackie?" Seth asked, worried.
"Shh," I put my finger to my lips. "There was this guy who told me about these creatures, they live in the dark. They here every thing you say. He saw one once."
"The man was probably drunk."
"WHOOOO!" I screamed as I stood on the table. Every one whoo'd back and I did a stage dive. It wasn't so much of a dive as it was a fall.
Hey guys, I forgot to put on the last post that it was toward the end of the school year! Sorry!
