The Twilight Saga

Chapter One- Found Out

“Anna?”
I turned around and saw Drew standing there. My heart filled with dread when I saw the look on his face. He looked guilty and scared and determined and hopeful, all at the same time. I knew what he was going to say before he said it, and I didn’t trust my voice, so I just looked at him with raised eyebrows.
“Anna,” he sighed, “I know what you are.”
“What are you talking about?” I tried to ask incredulously, but my voice shook, and I knew he heard it, too.
“You know what I’m talking about.” Now he just looked hurt. “Why didn’t you tell me that you were a . . . that you were a . . . vampire?”
“I’m sorry. You were never supposed to find out. I should have never let myself fall in love with you.”
“What did you just say?” he breathed. Even though he was a good ten feet away, I heard him perfectly.
“I said, I’m in love with you?” I meant to state it, but it came out sounding more like a question.
“Good.”
“Good?”
“Yes. I’ve been in love with you since I first met you.”
“But we can’t be together. You’re not even supposed to know about me. You’re a human and I’m a vampire. By the way, how did you find out?”
“Well, uh, um, Edward told me. When I came in, I asked where you were and he said you were out hunting. Then of course, I was confused because you obviously don’t hunt, as in the sport. He got this really guilty look on his face and mumbled something about thinking before he spoke. After a few minutes of him pacing the floor and me being completely and utterly confused, he came over and said that it was time that I knew the truth, and told me.”
“Everything?”
“Pretty much.”
“Well,” I sighed, “do you have any questions or fears or concerns you want to talk to me about?”
“I do have one question. Don’t you, like, want to eat me all the time?” he asked fearfully.
“No,” I laughed. “I’m not always hungry. And you are safe because I only feed on animals. I have never tasted human blood.” I said proudly.
“Okay. And, Edward said something about ‘gifts.’ What is he talking about?”
“Well, Edward can read minds, Bella’s a shield, Nessie can project whatever she is thinking into your mind as long as she is touching you, Jasper can feel and control your emotions, and Alice sees the future. My gift has to do with animals. Most vampires have an uncontrollable bloodlust that takes over completely when they start feeding. I can stop. Like, in the middle. I do that so that the animals can recuperate and still live. I have only killed two doe when I was first changed because I was new to it all. The only downside is that it takes me a little longer than the others to hunt because I have to use two or three for every one that they use. I haven’t completely discovered all of it yet.”
“Wow.”
“Yea, it’s definitely a lot to take in.”
“So what do you think my gift will be?”
“Excuse me?”
“You know, when I get changed,” he explained.
“When were you going to ask me about this?” I demanded.
“Uh, I didn’t know I had to ask you.”
“You mean you don’t want me to change you?”
“No! No, no, no, no. That’s not what I meant. I hadn’t even thought about that yet. I’m sorry. Of course I want it to be you. How do you change me?”
“Well, you don’t have to worry about it just yet, but I’ll bite you and the venom will seep through your body, changing you and making you stronger, and then your heart will stop and you will become a vampire.”
“Oh,” he said quietly.
By this time we had joined hands and were walking toward the house. We were quiet for a few minutes, each lost in our own thoughts, when I commented. “It will be extremely painful,” I said softly.
“What will?” he asked, coming back to reality.
“Your transformation. The venom is just that, venom. It’s like snakebite. It burns. It feels like your body is on fire. And it hurts. A lot.”
“I’ll be okay as long as you stay with me.”
“I won’t leave your side.” I smiled and glanced at him. The look of love in his eyes was so strong it made me want to melt.
When we got to the house, we were greeted with smiles. I could tell Edward had told them.
“Hey everybody. Drew knows the truth and he wants to become one of us.” I looked at Drew. “Were in love.”
“Well, duh,” Bella said, rolling her eyes. “Anyone can see that by just looking at the two of you.”
I laughed and said, glancing over at Edward, “You’re a fine one to talk.” Then I turned my attention to Drew. “I’m sure Bella would be happy to talk to you if you want to. She willingly became a vampire, too. I mean I can explain the basics, but I didn’t know anything before I was turned. Wouldn’t you Bella?”
“Of course. I’m here if you need me,” she said with a smile.
“Let’s go upstairs,” Drew said to me. We left to a chorus of “woos.”

Chapter Two-Discovering
Drew looked at me with a worried expression on his gorgeous face. “After I’m changed, will I get to see my family?”
“I don’t know,” I said sadly, remembering. “I didn’t get to see my family, but Bella still sees her dad. I don’t think so though. Charlie understands, but she doesn’t see anyone else. You have to break the ties so that you can start getting over them. And so that they don’t notice you not getting any older while they do.”
He looked down and was quiet for a few minutes. When he looked up again, I recognized the look in his dark hazel eyes. It was one of pure sadness.
“I can’t,” I whispered sadly. “I can’t take your life away from you. You need to stay human and live it.”
“You are my life,” he said. “I’ll be okay; I just need time to cope. Okay?”
I just nodded. “I love you, you know,” I said seriously.
“I love you, too,” he told me softly.
We sat there quietly for a minute or two, and then he stood up. “I should probably get going, it’s after ten.”
“Yea. Drive safe. I love you.” I smiled, got up, and walked over to him. He kissed me softly and headed towards the door. As I watched him walk out, I thought to myself, “What am I going to do? I don’t want to take his life away, but I can’t live without him.” And that was just the beginning of my doubts.
I went and lay down on my bed, just thinking. After about fifteen minutes, I knew I had to get out of the house. I was too cooped up. I got up and went out side and ran into the woods. I had gone about a mile, when I smelled deer. I found them and walked up to them so that I wouldn’t scare them. I wasn’t hungry; I just wanted to pet them. They let me, and I started talking to them. I realized that that was just what I needed: someone to talk to that wouldn’t talk back.
“Okay. So I am a vampire. My boyfriend wants to become a vampire like me, so that he can be with me forever, but it’s really hard on him, especially when he found out that he won’t be able to see his family or friends. I don’t want to take his life away when he’s just a teenager, but I need him. I’ve found the one I want to be with forever, and I don’t know what I’ll do if he’s not with me.”
The biggest one spoke back. “Well, tell him how you feel,” he said in a deep gravelly voice.
“I can’t – wait a minute! Did you just talk?!” I said excitedly.
“Yes, I did. All animals can talk, but only a few humans or vampires, as you say, can understand us.”
“Wow. Okay, can you stay right here and let me go get someone. Please don’t leave.”
“We won’t. We’ve been grazing here for a little while and weren’t planning on leaving just yet.”
“Okay, thank you so much. I’ll be back in like twenty seconds.”
I started running towards the house. When I got there, I grabbed the closest person to the door’s hand and started pulling. It was Esme.
“What is it, honey?”
“Come on, come with me, I’ll explain on the way,” I exclaimed, still pulling on her hand.
“Okay.” And she fell into a run with me.
“Okay,” I said, “I can talk to animals.”
“What?” she said very confused.
“I’ll show you,” I said, and stopped abruptly. She was still running, so she had to turn around and come back.
“I started talking to the deer, and the biggest one talked back.”
As if on cue, the leader spoke again. “That I did.”
Esme looked confused. “I still don’t understand. All that deer did just now was make a deer sound.”
“You heard that, but I heard, ‘that I did’.” I said, willing her to get it.
“Oh my goodness. You can talk to animals!” She shouted excitedly.
I bid the deer farewell, and we started running back to the house. When we got there, I told Carlisle to call everyone into the living room. When everyone was seated, Esme and I kind of took turns telling the story.
“I went and talked to these deer and they talked back,”
“And then she came and got me and we ran,”
“Back to them, and they talked again,”
“But all I heard was a deer noise, and she heard,”
“Him talking.”
Everyone was speechless. Carlisle was the first one to speak.
“So, you can communicate with animals?”
“Yes!” I said with a huge grin on my face.
“Wow, that’s interesting. I’m very proud of you.”
“Thanks. Okay, I’m going to talk to those deer some more. Bye!” I yelled as I ran out the door.
