*Anne Marie's POV*
"Um, hello?" I asked the strange man in the doorway, a little nervous since I had never seen him before. "May I help you?"
"Oh, yes. I'm looking for an Anne Marie Williams. Would that be you by any chance?" the strange man responded in a deep voice, looking down at me, being at least a foot taller than me and all.
"Um, yes, I am. But may I ask who's asking and how you knew I was here?" I asked, wondering how the heck he knew I would be here since I hadn't seen him in my life and I was currently at Daniel's house.
"But of course. I'm sorry, I must seem a little creepy. I am Seth Young," he said with a nod and a warm smile. He seemed nice enough, but I didn't know if I could trust him...
"So, Mr. Young. Why are you looking for me?" I asked trying to get to the point.
"I don't know how to put this really, but I was sent to inform you that you have been chosen..." he said, stopping short and looking up. It was then that I heard Daniel's voice behind me.
"Hey Annie, what's taking so long?" he asked coming down the hall. I noticed that when he saw man in the doorway and realized immediately that it wasn't the delivery guy as well and approached us slowly.
"Um, hello.... Who are you?" I asked the strange man who was standing in the doorway talking to Annie.
"You must be Daniel, I presume? I am Seth Young. I was sent to tell Anne Marie, here.." he said, gesturing to Annie before I cut him off.
"Wait a second... How the heck did you know that Annie would be here, since this isn't even her house, and how do you know me as well?" I was starting to get a little scared. I had never seen this 'Mr. Young' in my life!! And by the look on Annie's face, neither had she. Something just didn't seem right...
"Well, I was just about to explain this after I told you and Anne Marie why I was here...but I suppose I'll just have to tell you what I am first... May I come in so we can talk?" he asked politely with a sigh and a distraught look on his face as I nodded speechless and he stepped in the house.
He followed us into the kitchen where we sat at the table and he took off his coat and hat revealing his eyes. He didn't seem too old at all. Only in his mid 20's... But the way he had been speaking and the way he was dressed and carried himself. It just must have been the vibes he was putting off... worn out and tired.
"So, I'll start by introducing myself. As you already know, I'm Seth Young, I'm 24, and I am a guardian angel... Now before you cut me off just let me explain myself a bit more, okay?" he asked as he gave us a pleading look.
I looked at Annie and see was as wide eyed as I was. A guardian angel?!!?!?!? Who was this guy? He must have been on something. I mean, yeah, I'm religious and I believe in angels and heaven and all that jazz, but I couldn't believe that this guy could actually be a living angel...
But then I just nodded for him to continue, at least to explain himself...
"Okay," Seth sighed as he prepped himself to continue. "I was chosen to be a guardian when I was about you guy's age. I had the same reaction as you did at first. I thought to myself that it couldn't be. I had always had my faith and everything and I loved to help people, but to be asked to be a guardian angel?! It freaked me out big time. But when the person who came to me, Jimmy Holloway, told me everything and I slowly started to understand. It took a while for me to completely get used to the idea, but after a couple of days, I decided to answer my calling." he said, telling us his story.
"He also explained to me why I had been approached," he continued. "I had always had this '6th sense' for people and their emotions and problems. I didn't know why it was that I could read people I didn't even know with such an ease, it made me feel like a freak and when I felt the ability to feel other people's pain as well as mine grow stronger than it had ever been, it made me feel even worse about myself and I went through a few months, when I was about 16 or 17 where I couldn't understand anything and I attempted suicide a couple of times as well as becoming severely depressed.
But then I was sent to a councilor to talk about why I had tried to commit suicide and harm myself and why I was so depressed. It took a few times for me to feel comfortable enough to tell him how I could read and feel people's emotions and feel their pain and problems. And it surprised me when he didn't freak out and tell me that I was crazy. Actually, he did the complete opposite! He told me that I wasn't alone, that he knew other people like me and that he was one of them. And then he told me that it was a special gift that was only given to certain people. People with compassion and love and faith, and pure hearts! And this councilor was none other than Jimmy Holloway," he exclaimed as he paused.
"Well, I think that's enough about me... Do you have any questions?" he asked as he smiled warmly looking from Annie to me expectantly.
"Well, I guess that explains a lot..." Annie said as she stifled a laugh. "I've been able to feel people's emotions and stuff like that since I was in the 5th grade and my mom tried to commit suicide...it scared me how much pain she felt...and then as I grew older, the 'sense' got a lot stronger... in 8th grade I went through a rough patch where I was really apathetic about just about everything and I couldn't handle the pain anymore, so I...cut...myself, thinking that it would help," she said and struggled to say that she had cut herself. "But I realized with the help of Daniel," she said smiling up at me, "that I was strong enough to deal with the pain and that I didn't need to harm myself, though I still struggle with it, it's not as bad as it used to be," she paused and took a deep breath before she continued.
"And ever since then, I've been taking every chance I get to help people and give them the support that I felt from this guy!" she finished was a laugh as she pointed her thumb towards me.
After we all laughed a little, I thought of a question that had just popped into my head and worried me.
"Um, I have a question," I said hesitantly. He just nodded for me to continue.
"This may sound funny, but would Annie still, you know, be....alive? I mean, still be living like she is now. Could we still have contact and stuff like normal?" I asked...
"Yes, there is nothing to worry about!" Seth said and laughed at the my relieved sigh. "She would be able to be herself and everything, including going to school and spending time with you and her other friends. The only thing that would be different is that she would be given people to look after, teenagers mostly right now because of how old you are right now, and you can be transported to said teens when they are in need almost immediately...." he said and Annie and I cut him off.
"Transported???" Annie and I asked at the same time with bewildered faces.
"Yes, transported...sort of like in Harry Potter where they can appearate and get where they want. You will be able to do that when they need you, " he explained with a laugh at the analogy that he just made.
"You will also be able to know when they need you because you will hear the panic in their voice or their thoughts change..." he said, again getting cut off by Annie.
"But isn't that like an invasion of privacy?! And what if they get scared and pass out or yell or something when I appear in front of them, trying to help them?" she asked looking worried.
"Well, you won't appear in front of them, per say. You will usually find yourself a few yards or so out of the site of the person you are trying to help and others as to not freak them out." he said simply. "Plus, after the first time you go and help them, they might warm up to the though of you being their friend and just think it was a coincidence that your there every time they are in need." he finished with a laugh.
"Oh, okay." she said in with a semi-confused by relieved smile and it was then that the door bell rang once more, announcing that our food was here.
"I go get it," I said standing up and starting off towards the door to go get our food and pay the delivery guy. When I came back, Seth was getting up to leave.
"Well, I better go, you two probably want to go and continue whatever you were doing... Here's my card." he said pulling out 2 business like cards out of his pocket and handing one to each of us.
"Call me if you have anymore questions or need to talk or anything along that line." he said with a smile as he put his coat back on and walked out with us following. "Now, you guys have a good night and Annie, just think about it okay?" he said as he stepped out of the door and down the walkway and into his car, driving off into the night.
"That was interesting," Annie said with a laugh and leaned against the wall next to the door letting what had just happened sink in.
"Yeah, it was," I agreed as I took another look at the card before placing it in my back pocket.
"So, do you want to go upstairs and watch Nick and Nora's Infinite Play list and eat? I'm starved and I'm still dieing to watch it!!" she said abruptly. Well that was to be expected....if not from anyone else, but her. What could I say, she was herself.
"Yeah, lets go," I laughed and we got our food and a couple of Dr. Peppers since we had already had like 3 cream sodas each today and went back upstairs to start the movie.
