I am here taking my time to respond to what you wrote on Shruti's discussion :) as you wanted my answer and who ever else responded to it before me :) so here I am lol.
Yes I was trying to give me view on a broader concept and from some personal experience, as I knew 3 friends who have been in a love triangle that has ruined their friendship. It seems to me that anyone who has not been in that situation or does not know someone who it has happened to, can easily say love triangles do not exist in real. Or in Twilight, but from the way I interpreted it, it shows to me that Bella can love both Jake/Edward. And some of the evidence given in NewMoon/Eclipse shows to me that she is denying her feelings for Jake.
As I do Religious Studies/Philosophy in College, I know that there are 2 sides to the text.
Side 1~What the Author intended. (Meyer intended that Bella only Loves Edward? And not Jake?)
Side 2~What the reader brings into it (Might be their own experience/expectations) to see the bigger picture and see between the lines of the story.
That's why everyone seems to view the love triangle differently. They can also bring in Exegesis and Eisegesis to help learn from the text as they read it more than one time and to make sense of what is going on.
As you asked me, I do not think that Bella totally gave her heart/soul to Edward. If she did, she would have not had feelings for Jake at all, just feelings of friendship and nothing more. I believe that we all humans are selfish in some way, because we fight for someone or something we know we cannot have but we want it anyway. That could be the case with how Jake feels about Bella. He knows he cannot be with her as she loves Edward, but he still fights for her and tries to win her heart. Some people view Bella as selfish because of the fact she is crying when she kisses Jake. I see that as her being in love with and feeling sorry she has caused pain to him, her self and Edward in all of this and denying her feelings for Jake as her love for Edward is stronger and she suspects it would not change anything at all.
I personally think we cannot help who fall in love with, that person might have many flaws, we do not see but others might, but we do not listen to them as we are deeply in love with no matter what. And if we can fall in love, we can fall out of love as well or ben in love with 2 people at the same time. Can we not?
Mother loving one child, seems like a cruel thing, because she does not truly love all of her children equally, but she picks and chooses who is the best one, feeling the others feeling unloved and neglected, which is why some children might ran away from home. A person has friends and many best friends, but just one Best friend they prefer, they might be one person they are the closest to, but that does not mean they prefer them the most over their other friends.
I do not believe in forced Marriage because that is not True Love, or Love at all. My mother had to go through an arranged marriage at the age of 19 and she married someone who was more of a best friend, but they got divorced a few months later. I blame my grandmother for this, she caused the whole situation and made her own daughter unhappy to make her happy. Culture teaches us this is seen as morally wrong, yet in some countries this is acceptable. By marrying girls young as 12 to a man twice their age and having to have their children, is ruining their chance at happiness in life and their premature bodies.
Sometimes, some arranged married couples, fall in love. this is seen mostly in films, and not much in real life. But if they do, at least they know they been through that together and found love when they were not expecting it at all.
I am not sure if there is one person out there for everyone, there was for my mother :) she is now happily mar
You did and I was going to reply today but the reply was closed for replies, so I thought I might create a post and talk to you over this over comments :) maybe or over messages :)
I promise you will not be harassed by me. I am not even trying to win any favor with you, now. I just wanted you to know that my comment was not intended to be taken as a slap to you; but just what I observed. Although I think it is best we move on because I am tired of always needing to explain what I say or do; I did need you to know I was not trying to hurt you and I am sorry that it did. I did not read your last post before I deleted the thread as I did not see it. I learned from the post Lorece left you that you had written one. Any way I think that is all. Pinkie
I am a bit slow with navigating on the computer. I just figured out how to read your entire post to my profile. How amazing how much we have in common. I went through this same fascination with Harry Potter, but the fascination with Twilight is the romantic level it is based on. The Second Life of Bree Tanner was amazing...Jodelled Ferland is a great actress...to bad her part was so short. Speak to you soon....so much to chat about.
My Mother is an 80's girl, though lots of books, Pandora stations and my own curiosity fueled my love of older alternative / gothic stuff (Particularly The Cure being my favorite, with Bauhaus, The Smiths and Inkubus Sukkubus, Joy Division and most of the bands you named). Ha, I think it's perfectly healthy to be a well-rounded individual. I'm actually quite bouncy if not shy, spiritual and clean-cut, myself whilst dark and goth. (My purse is made of the cover of an Anne Rice book. It's perhaps my proudest possession next to my Doctor Who merch). bI'm also a fandom nerd, and it's perfectly acceptable to be more than one thing.
I'm a sometimes-fan of U2, though was less familiar with that song. Thank you!
Oh, one we haven't mentioned: Siouxsie and the Banshees. I kind of wish I were Siouxsie Sioux sometimes, not gonna lie.
Ahhh, I've always loved Cuts You Up. It's one of my Mom's favorite songs, so I associate it with car rides with her <3
Goodness, I love how cerebral his music is too, and I listened to the song you sent me: I'm not in love! I simply adore the haunted feeling. Perfect for reading and writing and thinking about!
I haven't seen him in that. I may have to check it out sometime. :) I haven't gotten to see it yet. I'm home from college this weekend and am visiting family. Next week will be super busy as well. I have heard good things about it.
