One more example: In Twilight, Bella going out dress shopping with Jessica and Angela was only an excuse for her to be in Port Angeles, almost get gang-raped by drunk guys, then have Edward (who stalks her 24/7 and ADMITS IT) jump in and be the hero. There are a few other major issues that appear throughout the series in those scenes alone, one of which is Edward's painfully obvious controlling nature ('Bella, I am taking you to dinner, you have no say in the matter, and I will force you to eat'-not a direct quote but close enough-this needs no further explanation)

A great point to bring up :) I have a few things I'd like to add to that. Bella manipulates and lies to everyone around her, her parents, 'friends' (who only play a role in the story when serves her purpose), everyone with the exception of the Cullens, and uses them as means to her own ends. In Twilight, she actually admits in her narration that she was only befriending Jacob in order to find out information about the Cullens. Her 'friends', Mike, Jessica, Angela, remember them? They only come into play when Bella wants something from them. (examples) In Twilight, Bella refers to Mike as a clingy 'golden retriever' when he is just trying to be nice and friendly. In Eclipse, Bella only spends time with Angela to prove to Charlie that she had a life outside of Edward (which of course, as Meyer reminds us a countless amount of times is not true). At the end of Twilight when Bella has to go to Phoenix, she tells Charlie the same words that her mother said when she left, unnecessarily bringing back those heartbroken feelings, and not to mention not bothering to thank him for letting her stay with him and putting up with her crap when she "exiled" herself to Forks, uninvited. Bella is a terrible person. She is selfish, manipulative, ungrateful, and tremendously whiny. How could anyone brand a person with these qualities as a good role model for young girls? HOW?
