Dear Shannon,
Thanks for your kind note. I have missed very much sharing with YOU. And I very much look forward to sharing again.
Long Bear * story:
15 years ago I got sleep apnea. It left me with a fine hand tremor, on some days. And I had to give up plastic surgery. And I had this odd disability policy that said "You will be taken care of for the rest of your life UNLESS you can WORK. IF you are well enough to work, you are required to work as a family MD in a clinic
Well I didn't want to be a family MD. So I asked them if I could work as a teacher. And they said ONLY if I worked for free. That's why I developed the Phoenix Nuevo Barrio teaching center, which I established and, and where I could work for free.
(IT WAS ONE OF THE GREAT JOYS OF MY LIFE) 60 students per class 30 desks per class room. And a million hugs and I love yous. Then Phoenix went to a year round teaching program and we closed the center.
Then a friend said "You are gifted mathematically, have more patients than Jobe, and enjoy poker. Why not become a semi-professional poker player.
(Photo below titled: Some players are harder to beat than others)
"Each night," he said," you just collect your cash, and the insurance company doesn't have to know. Professional players only play about 3 hands an hour. So 90% of the time I just read books, and joked with my friends.
Then my neighbor Jackson Scottsdale Schools Superasked me if I could help in an emergency.
(The photo below is of a typical Scottsdale, Chaparral High school trouble maker)
One of their bio teachers had gone into eclampsia. The insurance company said I could work, if it was ONLY as a temporary substitute teacher. My "one day job" ended up with my teaching every work day (as an "emergency substitute) for the next three years. Then I took a sabbatical and joined the" Twilight Saga."
A couple of weeks ago a friend invited me to play a few hands at the Casino, so I have been going back.
(The photo below is of my new "office")
It has been a pleasure to see so many wonderful friends again. BUT the problem is that I miss sharing with you. And as I said 90% of the time I am not playing but just sitting at the table waiting for a hand. (Photo below of a vear pondering what to do)
So "Honey is getting me a Droid or an i-phone so that I can have the best of both worlds. (Make money as I share saga thoughts)
(Rose Terra spent hours at work sharing with us, on her Blackberry)
So, I miss you. But I look forward to sharing with you again real soon.
Love,
Doc
PS: Please share this with "The Saga Crew" I have been thinking of some very challenging questions as I have been raking in those pots.
PSS: I was playing today and an old friend said "Doc, just FYI, for the last ten years when ever I have heard you say "RAISE" it has always scarred the hell out of me."
I answered him: "What a coincidence, because for the last ten years, when ever I have said raise it has always scared me TOO!" (Photo below: When I am playing some people call me Doc while others refer to me as "The Bear" How odd.!
(There is a secrete significance to this photo.. mums the word, none of my poker friends would have the least interest in this, so I thought that I would share it with you. My friend at Lennox Jewlers says it can come with either diamond or ruby hour indicators on the face.)
