Equaly starteled by her ability to see them, the murders explain theirselfs as shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to riding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, clarys mother dissapears and clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon.
But why would the demons be interested in ordanary mundanes like clary and her mother? And how did clary suddenlyget the sight? The shadowhunters would like to no.

And that all happens in the very first chapter. It sounds wierd and confusing but theres more to it once you start. ;-)
