I haven't read the book yet but I definitely will!
I thought about what could be on shoes and I come up with this (I was Inspired by the BD cover): on one shoe could be scrap of chessboard with pawns in position when it is check - with this phrase "check" and on the other shoe could be checkmate situation with this phrase.
But I like your idea too, especially wit daggers :)

I like art but i never did pursue it.. people who can draw and paint very well are awesome.. its really cool..especially if its abstract.. it makes me wonder what they are thinking.. to get their inspiration...
